I’m Lynsey, a freelance designer and illustrator from the North East of England, currently living in London where I’ve been for a little over 8 years! I work on all sorts of things, from children's books to ad campaigns, and run a little Etsy shop under the name Hello Hinny.
I chose the name Hello Hinny as I felt it best represented the type of products I wanted to make; cute, thoughtful, friendly gifts, the kind of thing you might want to send to a friend just to say “hello” and let them know you’re thinking of them.
I’m an avid pin collector and last year I decided to create my first set of pins, and launched a kickstarter project to fund them. It was a success and I received a lot of great feedback from the backers about the final product.
I love working on lettering, and playing around with different styles, and recently created a 70s inspired piece; "I like making things", which was popular, and I decided to make it into a pin.
Having made enamel pins before, I've got a good grasp of the process and how long everything takes, so here is a rough timeline of how I hope things will go. I have an estimated shipping date of July 1st 2019. The campaign runs for 30 days, after which there's a two week window during which you'll receive a survey from me so I can collect your postal address, and so you can let me know which rewards you'd like. After those two weeks I receive the funds from Kickstarter and order the products.
So where’s you money going? Well, I’ve made a pie chart to show you how funding will be spent. As well as the pins themselves, money will also go towards purchasing the backing cards and bags that the pins are packaged in. 5% of what is raised also goes to Kickstarter:
If you’re kind enough to pledge, obviously you’ll be rewarded! You'll find all the rewards available in the rewards section, but here's a closer look at the pieces...
The main goal of this kickstarter is to fund the first pin ("I Like Making Things"), but if I reach the first fundraising goal, and then can get to £450, that will unlock the stretch goal and means I can also produce the second pin "Good Vibes"
Pins will be 32mm wide, Hard Enamel, meaning they have a smooth, flush finish rather than raised outlines. Both pins will be finished in High Gloss Gold. The "I Like Making Things" pin will have white enamel, while the "Good Vibes" pin will have 4 colours. Pins will be packaged in recyclable glassine bags
There are also rewards options that include prints. Prints are printed A4, on high quality, 230gsm Matte stock, and packaged in biodegradable sleeves, with a card backing to protect them.
All pledges now come with free stickers! For each pin you pledge for, you'll receive the matching sticker. Stickers are 10cm wide and die cut from vinyl.
All items will be posted in PIP boxes and wrapped with tissue. Where possible I use recycled or recyclable products.
If you've read all of this then you've earned yourself a gold star! And if you've pledged then THANK YOU! If the Pins aren't your thing but you want to help, then you can visit my Instagram and help by sharing the images from my highlights :)
UPDATE: New Stretch Goal Added!
With a little over 10 days left, I've decided to add a final stretch goal! A new pin design which will unlock if we reach £850!
As with the other Pin designs, this will be 32mm wide, Hard Enamel, and have 4 colours. It was also come with a matching sticker if the Pin is funded, and the design will be available as a print option too!
I'd love to see this design get funded, so please feel free to update your pledge (there's new Early Bird offers available) and share on social media :)
Oh, and THANK YOU, AGAIN, for supporting the campaign so far :D
Risks and challenges
My main risk would be any delays with the manufacturer that may delay the shipping process, but along the way I’ll be keeping everyone in the loop with progress :)
With 8 years experience as a designer, primarily in marketing, I’ve a lot of experience in creating design files for manufacture, and dealing with manufacturers.
I've also created a number of Pins before, and ran a successful Kickstarter campaign last year, for which all rewards were delivered and all feedback was great :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
