Thanks for taking the time to check out my kickstarter project!!! I'm so excited about the prospect of making my next CD. Another recording…I'm ready…music…this new music I'm making, these songs-are ready to go…it's time! Nothing like music to get you going…music makes us feel, music touches us, music connects us and marks moments in time. In the past, I was lucky to be able to pay for making my recordings. But right now, I need to reach out to you for help to make this happen to put this music out in the world.
In the Balance, will be my second solo recording only this one will have all original songs-with themes covering life and all it's craziness-from relationships, the blues, climate change, love, mothering…and the complex, fun, swirling mix of emotions that stem from it all…a little bit of something for everyone in a range of genres from blues, jazz, pop to contemporary folk. Arrangements will include driving, rhythmic guitar playing, a sprinkling of mandolin, powerful vocals and a myriad of talented, award winning musicians. Two of the songs are collaborations with poet, friend and amazing writer, Carol Burbank!
So, $10,000??? Does it really cost that much? Well….yes and more! To make a quality recording it really does! What does this cover? Studio time, paying musicians, mixing and mastering. Then there are additional costs, above the $10,000. for photos, graphic design, manufacturing, publicity and promotion. Really this is a minimum for getting in the studio, making and producing a quality recording. ...and remember...Kickstarter rules are: if you do not meet your funding goal-you get $0. But you can go beyond! Look to the right and you'll see varying amounts of pledges and rewards. Every bit counts towards making the $10,000. goal. Anything beyond will help take the project from the studio, in to your hands and out to the world.
Why a physical CD? "CD's? Aren't they becoming obsolete?" As a performing songwriter you need a physical copy-it shows you're serious. Many DJ's prefer it and there are many people like me who still like the physical product. (I'm a little old fashioned that way-love my old album jackets and CD covers…seeing who is playing on them and reading about the artist). And yeah, of course there will still be digital downloads of all the songs!
I will be working at Recording Arts in Fairfax, VA with award-winning Producer and Engineer, Marco Delmar. Mastering of the recording will be done by Bill Wolf, Wolf Productions, Inc. The multi-talented artists that will join me on this album are Grace Griffith (Blix Street) (vocals), Carey Creed (Azalea Recordings)(vocals/piano), Steve Wolf (bass), Brian Simms (multi-instrumentalist/vocalist), Dave Abe (violin, mandolin, penny-whistle), Jimmy Brink (percussion) plus some. I've learned as the creative process unfolds…as you hear the tracks being laid down, you often have moments like-this song just has to have a cello banjo! I love that part…
So, you're here, with me…stay with me on this project if you can-in whatever way you can contribute, any amount counts and goes to making the goal. You can also help in other ways-pass this on to your family, significant others, friends, neighbors, co-workers, through your social networks…anyone you think might be interested!
To those of you who have been with me the whole way, I'm forever grateful~you know it!!!! And for those of you who are new to my music, I invite you to come with me on this journey of making~ In the Balance! It will be great!
Thank you everyone and take care!
