MODI comes with three types of modules – Input, Output, and Setup.
Want to make something? Just connect! It doesn’t matter which side or in which order you connect. All the modules are magnetic. Soldering? Programming? No need to hassle.
The MODI app connects the smartphone to the Network module via Bluetooth. It allows the app to control your MODI device.
When you turn the app on, it searches for MODI Network modules and connects automatically. You can enable and disable the Bluetooth function of your Network module via MODI Studio.
Of course, you can take full advantage of MODI by coding it. Meet MODI Studio!!
With MODI Studio, you can easily control the motion of the modules. Just drag and drop the commands and you are good to go!
The simple Cause & Effect concept of programming and instant C-Language conversion are great for teaching kids how to code. (Additional coding languages will be supported in later versions.)
MODI has a good memory. Once you program it, it will work without PC connection.
The modules will connect when you place them close together.

A pair of magnetic prongs will come out of each module and form a strong magnetic bond. It’s also fun to play with.
We are launching MODI with 13 modules. However, many more exciting modules are coming soon, such as a Camera module, USIM module, Memory module, Solar Power module, Pressure Sensor module, and Gas sensor module.
MODI’s OS will be regularly updated, and each update will come with new functions.

Stretch Goal 1 [for reaching $100,000] : 20 Expert Packages donated to your favorite schools
When the funding reaches $100,000, we will let you pick twenty schools or other educational institutions and send one Expert Package to each of them for their STEM education. We will include a nice card that includes all the names of the supporters and their messages. The details of how you nominate and vote will be provided soon.
Stretch Goal 2 [for reaching $200,000] : MODI Keychains
When the funding reaches $200,000, we will include MODI keychains in your package, one keychain for Beginner Kit, two for Intermediate, three for Expert, and twelve for Master Collection.
The MODI keychains are made of the same material and come with the same magnetic connection mechanisms, but without the functional parts. With two or more MODI keychains combined, you could enjoy MODI’s unique magnetic connection everywhere you go.
Stretch Goal 3 [for reaching $300,000] : will be unveiled once the Stretch Goal 1 has been reached.
LUXROBO’s roots are in robots. The founding team and core R&D members studied robotics together in college and have entered and won numerous international robot competitions together. MODI represents LUXROBO’s first chapter in its hardware platform, “Robotics of Things”. MODI modules are designed not only for a simple IoT device but also a sophisticated robotic invention. Simple but capable, MODI lets you make robots and makes robotic technology accessible for everyone.
MODI Motor module combines a capable servo motor and a speedy DC motor in one. By combining two Motors and using them as servos, you get a walking leg of a humanoid robot.
At the center of an IoT device is a communication module. MODI Network module easily lets you connect your device to your PC, smartphone, and other devices, or with each other, by WiFi, Bluetooth or USB.
Each of MODI modules comes with MODI OS embedded, and that allows you to create devices that you want in a quick and precise manner. For example, MODI Gyroscope module is a sophisticated IMU module, with accelerometer, magnetometer, and gyroscope. With the OS and its own processor embedded, it measures not only the angle but the trajectory and speed of the angle change, and much more.
Whatever information or motion you need from your MODI modules, you just need to code and let MODI do its magic. You can connect as many MODI modules as you want, regardless of the direction and order the modules are connected in. Each module's internal memory will remember all the codes that you program, allowing the modules to operate without PC connection.
MODI comes also in wire-connection types, and they will be ready for use in December. The only difference is the way the modules are connected, and the two types can work interchangeably. The wire type connects the modules more securely, and the various wire lengths will allow greater flexibility when producing practical projects. The wire type will be a more suitable option for the educational purpose.
In November, LUXROBO will supply its strategic partner in the UK, Technology Supplies, with the wire-type MODI. The wire type will only be available to schools, libraries and other educational institutions. The wire type, we hope, will be widely used in Middle and High Schools in the UK and in the Gulf States. LUXROBO and Technology Supplies have visited British high schools and met with many teachers in science, computer science and design & technology. The teachers were uniformly excited about MODI and its potential use in STEM education.
The founding members of LUXROBO have won numerous international robot competitions. Based on their competition experiences, they started teaching robotics with their own robotic kits. Using LUXROBO kits, their students have won first places at the World Robofest three years in a row. With their students inspiring the LUXROBO team to apply the modules beyond the competition use, LUXROBO developed DIY robotic modules for everyday use. After three years of development, here we have the MODI modules.
We are sure that our users will appreciate MODI’s ease of use and simple design. The final module design came after many drawings and reviews. We are proud of the design and will enter product design contests in coming months. Wish us luck!
