New Environments, Characters, and an Alpha!

Hey everyone, it's been awhile! I hope you've all been doing well, as I have. Day in and day out we're making Timespinner more and complete. Check out how far we've come!

Environment Makeovers!

On the first day of the campaign there were some who pointed out that many of the environments seen in the trailer were flat and too closely related to Castlevania's tilesets. I totally agree! Recently I've been spending time to remake these environments in Timespinner's own art style- a style that is reminiscent of classic Metroidvanias, while still standing on its own. Feast your eyes on the 'Before and After' make-overs of two areas: Lake Desolation and the Castle Curtain!

From these pictures it's easy to see how far the game has come in under a year! I'm extremely happy with how the game is turning out; it's going to be wonderful!

* Note: The pretty pink/blue sunset background isn't gone forever- it will be moved to the final area of the castle. Sunsets denote the end to something, so why would the Castle Curtain, which is the entrance to the castle, have ending colors? ;)

More Game Art!

In the last update we announced two new pixel artists joining the Timespinner team. Both of these talented people have been hard at work making astounding content for the game! Have a look:

Luciana Nascimento - Character Art

Since joining the team Luciana has done nothing but make jaw-droppingly beautiful character portraits. I mean, take a look at these:

Absolutely amazing, right??? WOW! Recently Luciana finished the last of the character portraits and has started working on other character art in the game. Sooo good! :D

Tony Redmer - Environment Art

Tony has been hard at work making different subsections of an important underground cave area of the game. As he made the original art for Chasm's Mines tileset, it's only natural that he'd be talented in doing something similar for Timespinner.

So beautiful! Don't you just love the atmosphere? I can't wait to put this art into the game! As Tony is finishing up the final sub-area of the Caves, he'll be moving onto to other areas for the game soon!

Alpha Build

The month of May is apparently the month of submitting demos to indie-convention-showcases! Last Friday and this Friday are two deadlines for me: Indiecade 2015 and PAX Prime Indie Megabooth. As I had to make a polished build for these submissions, I figured this would be a great time to start the Alpha builds for backers!

So, after I send out this Update, those of you who are Alpha Backers (backed at the $150 tier or higher) will receive emails with directions on how to get your Steam key to play the game!* This first Alpha build will just be the first area, Lake Desolation, whereas future Alpha builds will have more playable areas.

For those of you, who aren't Alpha backers, please keep in mind that the Beta builds and Early Access will not be available for several months. Good things come to those who wait :D

Fine Print - Twitch/Youtube: For this particular build it IS okay to stream and record gameplay, but please keep in mind that future Alpha builds will not, as they will have more sensitive content.

* We are using the 3rd party application Steam to help streamline the alpha process, so that we can spend more time working on Timespinner. Apologies to people who hate Steam (or don't have it yet)!

Weekly Live Development Streams

You may have noticed that the Kickstarter Updates have lately been more spread apart. For my updates, I prefer to have them full of new content that is exciting for you guys. Unfortunately, in the stage of development the game is in right now, it's difficult to get enough stuff to show in an update without spoiling all of the game's content.

That's where the weekly development live-streams come to the rescue! If you want to see how the game is coming along, just hop on over to my Twitch channel at: http://www.twitch.tv/lunarraygames where I publicly work on Timespinner every Tuesday from 1-4pm PST!

Watch me make Timespinner on Twitch!

If you can't make the streams, you can always catch the last two weeks' broadcasts here: http://www.twitch.tv/lunarraygames/profile/past_broadcasts

Never again will you have to wonder "where did Bodie disappear to?" because you can always find my smiling face there! Yay! :D

Until next time!

Alright, that's it for now! Be sure to send me a message on Kickstarter if you have any questions! Have a great month of May, everyone~

Really liking the before and after screens. Looks a lot better and sharper. Keep up the good work!

I immediately thought of Chasm too when I saw the mines screenshot! Great pixel art anyway, can't wait to see how it looks on Vita!

Those do look lovely. Nice work, guys!

for the record I don't think that the words 'too much' and 'castlevania' belong together, but it's cool - new version of that first pair of images looks more like super metroid, which *also* does not compute with 'too much.' :D

this is looking really good! I'm still excited to play it!

A sunset at the beginning makes sense if the adventure plays at night. I look forward to how you'll make the sunset at the end work!

Things are looking great! Can't wait to get my hands on the game. You should post/RT anyone who streams gameplay so we can all get a glimpse ;)

      Hey BJ,
The Mines screenshot is a work-in-progress snippet and doesn't reflect how it will look in game. I agree that right now it does look a little too but much like Chasm.

Those backgrounds are great! Full approval.

Something similar for an underground cave area? That pretty much looks EXACTLY like Chasm. Not saying it's bad, but being SO similar might cause issues? Anyway, great update and progress!

Great update. Thanks for all the info. Also, Luciana and Tony's work are quite amazing.
