About this project
The Dead Reaches. A massive desert expanse where nothing lives and magic itself withers in the sun. For untold centuries these wastes have claimed the lives of countless explorers while revealing nothing but sand and rock. Until now. One recent expedition unearthed the remains of a civilization both ancient and advanced. Now the race is on to uncover whatever treasures lie under the ancient sands.
Ancient Sands is our very first card game! Players take on the role of treasure hunters racing against each other to dig up the most valuable artifacts from a dangerous and malicious desert. Use your workers to make sure you get to the best treasures before your opponents and leave them bringing back just a few old coins. Be careful though, not only is the desert a very hostile environment that will slow your progress, but your opponents will have their own plots on how to reach the best loot. Some of the treasures seem magical though, perhaps you can use them to your advantage?
The game is complete and ready to go! We have spent the last few months playtesting and getting everything finished up for a full print run. We have already had a small printing of review copies from the printer we will be using and they turned out wonderfully. All we need now is your help raising the funds needed for production.

First setup the desert, a 4x4 grid of treasure card stacks. The goal of the game is to get 10 points by digging up these treasure cards.
Each player will start with one worker card and at the start of your turn you will draw another. You then choose a worker to play or discard. Workers you play stay in front of you and contribute to your dig progress. Additionally, most workers have some small effect that trigger when you play then such as peeking at a treasure card, or moving cards in the desert around. Some workers have powerful discard effects that you can trigger by discarding them here. This prevents them from assisting you in a dig, but the results can certainly be worth it.
Next, if you have enough workers in play, you can dig up a treasure card. Each treasure can be dug if you have enough workers with high power workers allowing you to dig sooner. Deeper treasures require more workers to dig up.
Once you have the workers and have picked a card to dig, you flip it up and see what you've found! Each treasure has a bonus for digging it up. Some trigger immediate effects, while others grant you bonuses for the rest of the game. More importantly, each treasure is worth points! If you start your turn with 10 points you win!
Finally, each round you'll be drawing an event card. These can bring great boons of luck, or horrible accidents. Worse, some of the events are weather effects that can stay in play for multiple rounds. Sandstorms, heatwaves, and more will be thrown at you as the desert fights back to protect its treasures.

We have a small number of review copies left! If you are a reviewer and are interested in writing/recording a review, send us a message here on Kickstarter.
We are a small independent studio that focuses on games that are quick to learn and encourage interaction between players. We believe that games bring people together like no other form of entertainment can, and hope that through our work more people can discover this magical hobby.
In order to reduce risk and ensure a quality product our printer is not only here in the United States, but is actually only a few minutes away from our studio. Quality Playing Cards Inc has not only already wowed us with our initial review print, they have been wonderfully responsive to us every step along the way. Using them as our printer will guarantee none of the delays or language barriers that can occur when printing overseas.
Retailer? We have special rates for any FLGS. Send us a message here on Kickstarter for details!
Risks and challenges
Since this is our first game, we have done everything we can do mitigate risk. The game is completely finished and we have already printed review copies with our printer. Should we pass our funding target, we will not be adding any physical stretch goals as those have been the doom of too many projects. Barring any natural disasters our only major risks are delays from the printer (which seems unlikely given how responsive they have been), or shipping taking longer than expected.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
