Revolutionary posture sensor and mobile app. Your mom will never nag you again!
If you missed getting your LUMOback here, you can still order one at www.lumoback.com.
LUMOback is a wireless posture sensor and mobile app that leverages great design, proven science, and the latest advances in mobile computing.
The sensor provides a gentle vibration when you slouch to remind you to sit or stand straight. It is worn on your lower back and designed to be slim, sleek and so comfortable that you barely feel it when you have it on.
The sensor connects wirelessly to an iPhone 4S or new iPad app which tracks all of your movement data. LUMO, your avatar, mirrors your activities when you sit, stand, walk, run, lay down, and more!
Anyone can use LUMOback. It’s simple and integrates into your daily routine. You live your life. Only better.

LUMOback is the brainchild of 3 Stanford graduates- a physician, engineer, and entrepreneur- on a mission to empower people to live healthier lives.
Our story begins with one of our co-founders, Andrew, and his quest to find a solution for his bad back. His back troubles made him feel frustrated and less productive. Andrew tried everything but nothing worked, until he took posture classes that taught him how to sit, stand, and sleep properly. Learning better posture has transformed his life. Not only does he feel better, he looks great too.
Posture is scientifically linked to back problems (which affects 80% of people sometime in their lives) and is also important for confidence, physical fitness, and general wellness. Using the latest sensor and mobile technologies, we can bring good posture and movement back into our daily lives. In doing so, we hope to positively transform the lives of millions of other people too.
In the past 1 1/2 years, we've gone from concept to a real, working prototype. We've recruited some of the best minds in technology and design. We've slaved away countless hours with user testing, questioning every aspect of our solution and refining it with each iteration.
Now it's your turn. We need money to fund our initial production run- this includes paying for tooling costs, ordering the plastic, fabric, and electronic components, and assembling the units (right here in the USA by the way).
Our project is based in Palo Alto, CA where we've been able to attract talent with stellar technology, design, and manufacturing backgrounds. We're a team that knows how to execute, and are ready to roll- we just need your backing. Here's our plan:
With your support, we can bring good posture and movement back into our daily lives. Thank you for helping us bring LUMOback to you!
iPhone 4S or new iPad
It should be compatible with the new iPhone 5 too!
Unfortunately LUMOback does not currently work with Android, Blackberry or Windows Phone 7.
Support for Android is high priority on our roadmap. We will expand to it as soon as we can.
2. Why won’t it work with the iPhone 4, iPad 2, or iPod Touch?
We're using the latest Bluetooth low energy (BLE) technology which is only compatible with iPhone 4S and the new iPad.
3. Does the iPhone/iPad app have to be on all the time?
No, the sensor works independently of the app. The app gives you the ability to see and track your everyday movements whenever you want, but it does not need to be open on your iPhone 4S or new iPad for the sensor to work.
4. Do I need an iPhone/iPad in order for the sensor to work?
The iPhone 4S or new iPad is needed in order to initially calibrate the sensor and to sync your data.
5. Is the footage in the video of LUMO the avatar tracking the user's movements real?
6. Where is the sensor worn?
The lightweight sensor is held in a thin band and is worn discreetly around your waist or lower back.
7. How slim is the sensor?
At the center, it is 8.5mm and even thinner elsewhere!
8. When do you plan to make the SDK available to developers?
We have an API that we're working on making as robust as we can. The SDK will be available after our product launch, once we feel it is ready. If you are interested in being added to the developer list, please email email@example.com
9. Who made your awesome video?
It was produced by our friends, Eugene Huang (video) and Allister Chang (music). They love working on new projects, so please feel free to contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com!
