The Painter's Apprentice is a 2D, side-scrolling platformer that combines art appreciation with action.
Three years after starting an apprenticeship with the top Master Painter in his village, the Apprentice is eager to take on new challenges. One day he notices one of the Master's paintings has lost all of its color. In an effort to prove his worth, he picks up the Master's favorite brush. Just as he's about to make his first stroke, a sudden noise startles him and he finds himself falling...INTO the painting!
When he comes to, the Apprentice realizes he is now inside the master's paintings. In order to find his way back home, he must platform his way through dangerous obstacles, defeat sentient paint blobs and restore all the paintings to their original appearance.
Check out the Gameplay trailer below:
Your Weapon: The Apprentice wields a large paintbrush to dispatch his enemies quickly. It can pull off a variety of melee and ranged attacks. Besides defeating paint blobs, it's also useful for activating switches and avoiding paint streams. Just make sure to match the right color!
Sounds and Music: Our composer, Ray Flores, offers years of musical experience to provide a compelling soundtrack. Each track embodies the type of music popular during each of the different art styles used in The Painter's Apprentice.
Art Styles: There are a total of eight different worlds, each one represents a different art style. You'll recognize popular styles like Impressionism and learn about lesser known ones such as Neo-expressionism. All of the backgrounds were made specifically for the game to match the cartoon-y appearance of the rest of the world.
Easter Eggs: Like any great platformer, The Painter's Apprentice offers some hidden easter eggs to encourage exploration and to test your platforming skills. Collect paintings from famous artists to unlock special perks and learn more about these artists.
For Every Play Style: We reward players who want to take on challenges, whether that's defeating all enemies, beating the clock or getting through an entire level unscathed. The more you push yourself the greater the reward!
BOSS FIGHTS - What's an action platformer without bosses? Each world ends with a boss battle. It might start off easy, but the challenge quickly rises as bosses pull out moves you've never seen in previous levels.
Each of the different worlds feature a different art style, though they all match the cartoon-like appearance of The Apprentice. You'll first enter a world that is in grayscale and you can bring back color to it as you play.
Besides having different backgrounds for each world, each level is designed around the basic theme of those art styles so platforming in each world will offer significantly different experiences.
Below are some examples of the different worlds.
World 1 based on music popularized in the 1860s-1870s
World 7 based on music popularized in the 1950s-1960s
We intend to release on Steam first and eventually Android and iOS. We would love to release on consoles, but that's dependent on our acceptance to their programs.
Luminosity Mobile formed in 2014. We're located in the United States, but have team members from all over the world. Our first title was "Once Upon a Runner" which released on iOS and Android.
We're a small team and hoping that we can build a great community and make some awesome games!
We've spent a lot of time making The Painter's Apprentice over the past two years. With Kickstarter we can really push the game over the finish line and provide it with the necessary polish so you and other gamers can enjoy it to the fullest. With the help of these funds, we're confident we'll be able to deliver the release the game on-time and within budget.
Here's how we intend to spend these kickstarter funds
10% Kickstarter and credit card fees
20% administrative fees (i.e. taxes, licenses, recurring expenses)
70% Development fees

Risks and challenges
The Painter's Apprentice has been in production for two years. While there are plenty possibilities for roadblocks or hiccups, most of the basic gameplay is complete so now it's really about polishing, testing, and polishing some more. This is a very low-risk project as we plan on alpha testing shortly after the completion of the Kickstarter campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
