What We're Doing for Hurricane Harvey + How You Can Help

Posted by LuminAID (Creator)

We wanted to share an update with you on what we're doing for Hurricane Harvey.  Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by Hurricane Harvey over the past few days. As you know, Texas holds a special place in our heart, because it is where Andrea grew up and where her family lives. LuminAID's first warehouse was the family garage in Houston. We're grateful Andrea's family is safe, and are doing what we can to provide assistance to those who need it.

The PackLite Max 2-in-1 Phone Charger that you helped us bring to market this summer is being used in Texas by our nonprofit partners, and it is the #1 product they are requesting from us in their relief efforts.  It's thanks to you, our Kickstarter backers, that these phone chargers were in the right place at the right time to be used for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, and we are incredibly grateful to the entire Kickstarter community for making this possible.

Many throughout the affected region are without homes and without power, and will be in temporary shelters for some time. We're working with our nonprofit partners to distribute solar lights and phone chargers to families in need. Our goal is to donate 1,000 lights and phone chargers, with your support, and as of this morning, we are over halfway there! We've set up the page where you can sponsor lights for Hurricane Harvey relief through our Give Light, Get Light Program.

Our featured partner for Hurricane Harvey relief is Convoy of Hope, who we have been working with for the past several years on their global disaster relief aid operations. Convoy of Hope was one of the first organizations to respond in Texas and has a base of operations in Victoria, TX, where they are distributing supplies to the coastal regions and moving east towards Houston. In addition to sponsoring lights through our Give Light, Get Light Program, we also encourage you to donate to Convoy of Hope's general funds here. We're grateful for the hard work and determination all the first responders have shown in the face of this storm the past few days. It is inspiring to see people come together and want to help.

Please help us send 1,000 lights and phone chargers to those without power in Texas. We will keep you updated on our efforts, as well as how you can help, at

Thank you,

Anna, Andrea & Team LuminAID

Hi all, I very much appreciate what you're doing for the relief effort, but was frustrated when the power went out here in Galveston to find that my luminaid 2 in 1 does not seem to hold a charge. The LEDs would not consistently come on and I certainly could not charge my phone. Interestingly, my smaller light-only luminaid worked with no problems, so I fear it is a problem with my 2 in 1 only. Do you have any replacement plans? Is this a known problem? In any case, thank you again for your efforts.
