But when you can control light and color, where you can literally carry it in your hand like a magical glowing globe, when it reveals not only what is around you but reveals who you are, that's not life - that's something more. That's LumiLife.
LumiLife is the seamless merging of light, color and technology to create an intelligent Bluetooth Smart enabled LED lighting system that is controlled by your smart devices.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The LumiLife system consists of two separate, easy-to-use parts: a portable rechargeable globe and a luminous lighting base with built-in charging dock.
PORTABLE RECHARGEABLE GLOBE
The incredibly low heat emitted from LED allows you to easily hold the portable globe while it is illuminated, no cords holding back your creativity. All you have is a magical lighting experience in your hand.
LUMINOUS LIGHTING BASE
The lighting base is also a fully programmable light and can be controlled remotely, like the globe, doubling your possible lighting effects. The sleek and minimalist design of the lighting base allows it to blend with and accentuate any modern home

STARTING YOUR DAY WITH A SMILE WITH ALARM FUNCTION
LumiLife’s alarm feature allows you to wake up with a gradually increasing light, emulating the natural cycle of the sun. Setting the alarm is easy, select your time - either one-off or recurring – and select your ‘wake-up’ preset pattern. It’s that simple, start waking up with a smile.
LumiLife’s timer function offers user another level of comfort. Replace those annoying timer buzzers with more gentle lighting reminders chosen from several preset patterns. Let LumiLife’s portable globes gently remind you when it’s time to get out of your warm bath or shine a bright red light when your egg is boiled.
WANT MORE THAN ONE PORTABLE GLOBE?
See LumiLife come alive with more than one portable globe! With the built-in proximity sensor, you can place the globes on stairs, corridors and benches, and see them come alive as you approach. In addition, your smart device will be able to recognize each one independently, allowing you to control them individually or as a group. Creating a dancing pattern to show off at parties or setting the mood for any setting couldn't be easier.
CANNOT FIND YOUR SMART DEVICES?
Don't worry if you cannot find your smart devices, LumiLife can be controlled by either twisting the portable globe or through the built-in control panel on the lighting base.
HOW DO I CHARGE THE PORTABLE GLOBE?
The portable globe can be recharged by placing it on the dock of the lighting base or by using the included micro-USB cable connected to your laptop. After charging for 6 - 7 hours, the portable globe can be operated for another 8 hours.
WILL LIGHTING BASE COME IN DIFFERENT COLORS?
LumiLife lighting base will come in 3 different colors. These 3 colors will be chosen by the votes of the LumiLife's backers.
THE PROJECT SO FAR
This project was officially kicked-off in April at one of the co-founder’s home. We sat around the dinning table, ate pizza and brainstormed about LumiLife’s vision, mission and what our first product could be!
A lot of time and hard work has been put into LumiLife so far, and it has been done with the help of friends, friend’s friends, ex-colleagues and past contacts in the industry. As a result, we would like to share with you some of the work that has been done so far as reflected in the below schedule, videos and pictures.
In the video of the working prototype with iOS integration, we tested and validated the software/firmware compatibility with the hardware. The lighting base prototype is of the earlier product ID. In July, we conducted a small consumer research survey on both the concept idea and the product ID (lighting base with a portable rechargeable globe). What we heard from the research is that the concept idea is sound, however we needed to refine and redesign the lighting base. Throughout August and September, we worked on incorporating improved LED lighting while trying to maintain the more sleek and minimalist design as shown below. We will be working towards implementing this ID for production and will keep you informed each step of the way.

Ellen Wang, Co-founder With over 20 years experience leading teams and achieving results for start-ups and multinationals in the US and abroad, Ellen focuses on connecting and building long-term relationships with customers and delivering bottom line results. Ellen graduated from The University of Melbourne with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and an MBA in Marketing. She is a native English and Mandarin speaker with multi-cultural roots and global reach.
Andrew Wen, Co-founder Always having a desire to know how things were constructed, Andrew started his interest in Asia and worked in project management and manufacturing engineering. Having lived 4 years in Hong Kong and with over 18 years experience, Andrew merges the skills of the Asian manufacturers with the design expertise located here in the US. His project background ranges from educational toys to consumer electronics, with a stint in making high-end collectible Lucasfilm licensed lightsabers!
John Sosoka, Founder & CEO, Pulse Robotics John is a serial entrepreneur, multiple patent holder, technologist and designer with dozens of award winning products to his credit. Before creating Pulse Robotics, John co-founded UGOBE where he led the team to create PLEO, one of the world's first commercial social robots. John also co-founded Neurosmith, an award-winning company focused on bringing unique learning-based products to children.
Tyler Wilson, Software Engineer, Pulse Robotics Tyler brings 20 years of experience in the technology field to Pulse Robotics, specializing in software architecture and programming. Tyler's early work in system programming drivers, applications and later on cross-platform 2D/3D authoring systems, give Tyler rare insight into the complex software challenges and how to solve them.
Risks and challenges
Manufacturing Challenges with LumiLife:
The form factor of a portable Bluetooth Smart enabled LED globe, where the top half can also manually rotate to change colors is not an easy task from a mechanical standpoint. Designing the shape of the lighting base to be as thin as possible while maintaining rigidity poses some structural challenges. There are also many manufacturing pitfalls that can happen along the way, such as procuring all materials on time, testing the prototypes to find and prove out all areas of mechanical and electrical concerns, and ensuring that the last unit made is just as high in quality as the first unit. To overcome this, we have a very experienced partner in Asia that has handled hundreds of products for numerous customers, involving electronic products that incorporated all types of plastics, die-casts metals, and even CNC'd metal parts.
Obviously, LumiLife would not come to life if it were not for the firmware and software that runs it. Creating the programming that runs on the LumiLife requires creativity to build all intuitive features, but also a strong technical knowledge to mate it with the hardware to create seamless play. We have partnered with Pulse Robotics, a group of experienced software and electrical engineers that have worked on diverse and recognized products such as PLEO, one of the world's first commercial social robots.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
