☀ The origins of Eis Life ☀
Hi, I’m Luke. I moved from England to Berlin in summer 2012. On one of my first weekends in the city, I arranged to meet some fellow expats for ice cream. Friendships blossomed as we continued meeting over the following months – but more importantly, they blossomed around the ritual of exploring Berlin’s best geletarias with my new Freunde.
I soon learned that the German for ice cream is eis (pronounced 'ice'). Eis became one of the twenty-ish words that comprised my German vocabulary, but it also became the way that I logged my ice cream eating on Instagram via the hashtag #eislife, a Deutschglish version of #icecreamlife.
I’ve since left Berlin, but I’ve continued to log my ice cream eating around the world – Azerbaijan, Canada, China, Iceland, Japan, Sweden – with the #eislife hashtag. When I returned to London last year, I got an Eis Life tattoo to commemorate two and a half glorious eis-eating years in Berlin. Now, I want to use Eis Life to help other ice cream lovers share their love of ice cream with the world.
☀ For the love of ice cream ☀
Ice cream is one of humankind’s greatest inventions. Creamy, cool and smooth, it’s a delight to men, women and children around the world. The problem is there’s no way to pledge your allegiance to this sweet treat. Until now.
Eis Life is a global gathering of like-minded ice cream lovers. It’s an inclusive club, a way for you to recognise your fellow eis lovers as you travel the world, or simply go about your daily business.
☀ Our first design: "It's never too cold" ☀
We’re asking ice cream lovers on Kickstarter to help us print a limited run of our first clothing design, “It’s never too cold.” The design is inspired by a trip I took to Iceland last month, where I stayed true to my favourite dessert despite the sub-zero temperature, holding it in gloved hands as I walked along Reykjavík's snow- and ice-covered streets. Icelanders never have the luxury of hot summers, yet their love of ice cream remains strong.
Featuring a gloved hand holding an ice cream, the design is a wintry tribute to those eis lovers who keep on lickin’ through the colder months, come rain or shine – a paean to everyone who continues to make the snow-filled journey to their local gelateria, reemerging into the street with their treasured eis held in be-mittened hands.
With your help, we can make Eis Life a reality.
☀ Where your ca$h mon€y goes ☀
Our goal of £1000 covers the printing, packaging and shipping of 50 t-shirts and 25 sweatshirts, plus Kickstarter fees. We’ve taken pains to pick high quality, heavy duty garments that are ethically produced, meaning you'll get to enjoy them for many years of eis licking. They'll be printed in Birmingham, UK, by our eco-friendly pals, Get a Grip.
If we exceed our goal, we’ll print a larger run of garments. And if we smash it dramatically, we’ve got some more ideas for sweet Eis Life merch ready to go – and you’ll end up with some bonus items. So tell your friends!

☀ The future of Eis Life ☀
Eis Life will be more than a clothing company. We want to create resources for ice cream lovers to find out about the best eis in their area and the places they travel to; to share tips and recipes for making eis at home; to find fellow eis lovers who they can share their love of eis with.
We've got plenty of plans for growing Eis Life, so be sure to keep in touch on Instagram, Tumblr and Twitter. Of course, if you back the project then you'll be the first to hear all the latest eis news. Danke schön!
Risks and challenges
Our design is finished, the printers are primed, and we're ready to roll. Luke's also launched a previous successful Kickstarter project – https://kickstarter.com/projects/lukeleighfield/luke-goes-to-cleveland – so we think everything's going to be, if you'll pardon the pun, ~chill~.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
