(This is how we won't be delivering your Baselamps.) )
Meet Baselamp – an effortless way to turn almost anything into a lamp.
Whether it's your favorite bottle of whiskey, a glass incense burner, a vintage notebook, a flower-filled vase, a particularly imposing action figure, or even your amazing quadcopter (while you wait for the batteries to charge) – the uses for Baselamp are endless, and limited only by your imagination.
Baselamp was designed and refined over the past year and a half with a focus on versatility and ease of use – with an integral chip-on-board LED and a recessed touch-capacitive dimmer switch, we've created a lamp that is not only super bright (410 lumens!) but also doesn't create too much heat or any UV light (a particular concern for the aforementioned whiskey application).
The real beauty of Baselamp lies in the details. With countless prototypes and more redesigns than I can remember, we have truly refined every aspect. Here are some technical details, but feel free to message us with any questions and we'll do our best to promptly respond.
- a solid walnut or bamboo body CNC machined in NY
- total dimensions: 6.5" by 4" by 1" tall
- a natural linseed oil hand-applied finish
- a solid aluminum heatsink base extruded in New Hampshire
- a 4 watt chip-on-board LG LED providing 410 lumens at 80 CRI
- a Makrolon Lumen XT polycarbonate diffuser
- a touch-capacitive aluminum dimmer switch to easily adjust brightness
- a plug-in power adapter that will work on all voltages around the world
I can assure you that we are very prepared to see this project through to completion – I'm the guy behind Luke Lamp Co. and I've been designing and building lights for clients ranging from interior designers and restaurant owners all over the world to commercial clients as big as Twitter and Urban Outfitters. I've also been fortunate enough be featured on some pretty sweet websites:
We're so excited to bring Baselamp to life and we truly appreciate all of your support – every single pledge will help us to meet our goal, and if we can raise enough funds we'll be able to meet our manufacturing minimums and start ordering the parts we need to start production.
So now it's up to you, loyal Kickstarters. Without you, none of this would be possible – every person you tell about Baselamp, every Facebook mention and tweet and Instagram shout out and Pinterest pin and Tinder connection and Tumblr gif and Reddit front page post will give us the support we need to make this happen. And just to make things even easier, here's a super simple Google drive link to all the photos, videos, and .gifs you'll need to spread the word!
And, thanks to our talented in-house computer expert, we even have a technical CAD drawing that's already in the hands of our CNC fabricator (who is eagerly awaiting our final word to begin production):
Risks and challenges
While we have diligently prepared every step of the way with Baselamp, launching a real life product into the world comes with its fair share of challenges.
To make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible we have already lined up suppliers and back-up suppliers for all of the components needed, as well as sourcing local manufacturers to help with the CNC fabrication of the solid wood body, and we have a ton of people ready and willing to help us build and fulfill every order. We also have more than four years of experience working with customers all over the world, so this isn't our first rodeo : )
As soon as this project reaches its funding goal we will start bringing in the parts and prepping our assembly line – we promise to keep you updated every step of the way and do everything we can to meet our deadlines.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
