Turku / Beaune is the newest addition to the Town Center line, which started with Alban Viard's brain-burning, elegant city-building sim game.
Scroll down to learn more about Town Center: Beaune / Turku.
After editions with small cubes, Lego blocks, big cubes and even a giant special edition, Town Center was published in its definitive 4th edition in 2014.
Town Center looks deceptively simple. It is quickly learned, because the basic concept of the game is simple:
1. Draft buildings
2. Build them into your city
3. Develop properties
However, it is quite a challenge to do this while trying to think in 3D, building up your city, and trying to make sure that all its parts work well together.
Check out what Rahdo has to say about it (using a 3rd edition to show it off):
While there are many decisions to be made, they all come in 16mm-sized bits, with no downtime between turns, as there's always something to do. Before you know it, your opponents have reached the sky, and you're still trying to figure out where that parking lot will go!
The rulebook can be downloaded here (2 MB, right click and Save as...). Please download this file, as PDFs viewed in-browser may not display properly.
Since the 4th edition's publication, the game system has proved to be a hit with gamers, which has led to several expansions. The latest one, Beaune / Turku is also the most personal one to date.
If there ever was a place that could be a model of for what a french small town would be, this is it. And, this is where Alban lives! Seriously! Look at this place, it's like living on the set of Chocolat! Perhaps he puts chili peppers in his designs...
As Beaune is a walled town surrounded by vineyards, there are no suburbs. Also, the "elevator" black cubes must be built in the center. We're guessing that's because in many medieval towns, no building was allowed to be taller than the church, but who knows, the designer works in mysterious ways!
To complement the pastoral quaintness of Beaune, we've got the wintery brashness of a medium-sized Finnish city - home of the first capital of the country, the first university, and of course of the LudiCreations World Headquarters. And what better person to describe it than a spaniard who really likes bikes:
"Wait, why does Turku get two videos?" - we hear you cry. Well, because the Turku map has two seasons, summer and winter, alternating between odd- and even-numbered turns. During the summer, the two halves are considered separate, and during the winter, when the Aura river freezes, the two parts are considered one city - which allows for some clever play, such as building green cubes "next" to green cubes in the summer, when they are not considered adjacent, only for them to be joined in the winter.
In this campaign you may also pledge for the base game, if you do not already have it, or if you already do, to get an additional copy and play with up to 8 players.
We also have limited numbers of the other expansions in stock, and backers of the bundle pledge levels may choose among them in the backer survey.
If you already own the base game and just need the expansions, the best thing to do is order them through our website: http://ludicreations.com/shop/
The Beaune / Turku expansion will be shipped by ourselves, from Finland. Base game shipments will originate from Germany or the USA. EU backers do not have to worry about customs or VAT.
Tracking is not offered through this campaign. If tracking is important to you, please contact us via the KS messaging system.
We have set the shipping deadline as November, but pledges that do not include Beaune / Turku may be shipped ahead of time.
What You See Is What You Get - this is our doctrine, and we like to run simple, straightforward campaigns. We are aware that offering add-ons and/or introducing stretch goals would increase the funding total. However, we have already thrown everything into this game - a lot of time, effort, and money. We intend to print with the highest quality materials anyway and we will not cut any corners.
We also want to offer the game at the cheapest cost possible - and that is incompatible with stretch goals. We'd have to add "hidden" profit in the pledge levels, that we can then "spend" to give you stretch goals to get excited about. Therefore, raising money beyond our goal does not give us extra money on hand to create stretch goals.
Furthermore, because the games are made in Europe, and because we do small print runs, we do not benefit by economies of scale by producing more copies of the game.
If we do offer additional content, we will lock past pledge levels to reward those that supported us early without the promise of the extra content. That's it - you do not need to pay more, or like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter or be a fan on BGG - although all of those things are nice of you if you do them, we want you to do them if you want to, not because of a carrot we dangle in front of you.
We do not do add-ons (not even our other games), because we want to keep our operations simple, and deliver efficiently. We are in this for the long run, so it does not help us to squeeze a few more dollars from a few backers, if we disappoint *all* backers.
We also have a maximum number of copies we can feasibly print and ship during this campaign. Therefore it is possible - as we have done previously in one of our campaigns - that we might lock the maximum number of pledges available across all pledge levels.
Finally, we do not pay anyone to give an opinion on our games.

Risks and challenges
The fulfillment for the Pocket Imperium campaigns is underway, on schedule. We are working with a manufacturer we have worked with before, and we are confident in our ability to deliver the game and any additional content we create for this game. That said, unforeseen events may affect how quickly fulfillment is conducted, and the final graphics and components that you see presented here are subject to (however improbable) change. Note that our goal is to ship the game on time, by the dates listed on the pledge levels. Shipping a package is different than delivering a package. We do not deliver your game, the shipping company does. Therefore, delivery times will vary according to your local postal services - once we ship, the shipment is the responsibility of the shipping company. If tracking is important to you, please let us know. Informal currency conversions made on this campaign may not be accurate by the time you read this. Looking at pictures, video and/or embroidered images of Beaune may cause feelings of extreme envy. Finnish salted liquorice (salmiakki) may cause nausea, upset stomach and a nervous system breakdown. By backing this project, you indicate that you have read, understood and agreed with the above. If you have any questions, please contact us directly via the KS messaging system.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
