Back when men knew how to drink a martini, and women knew not to trust any man who claimed to know how to drink a martini, the world was a few pushed buttons away from being destroyed several times over.
Luckily, that didn't happen - but it was close - too close for comfort - several times. In those times, it was not the warheads and the tanks that would have made the difference - it was the intel - about where those warheads and tanks were, and what they could do.
G.I. Joe was right - knowing is half the battle. And knowing before your opponent knows... well, this is what [redacted] is all about.
In the 45-60 minutes of [redacted], each player must take actions, use items, and interact with other players while in the hunt for intel. Each agent has one or more partners, and must find them - while outwitting the enemy agents.
On a player's turn, an agent may move from room to room of an embassy, while a gala reception is taking place, looking for the intel that the ambassador is trying to sell. Once found, it must be extracted safely. Failing that, an agent must stop the enemy from doing the same.
For security reasons, the true loyalty of each player is hidden, even from their teammate. Players will have to obtain information the hard way, interrogating or hacking each other, in addition to using items and their surroundings to gain the upper hand.
Inspired in its mechanisms by such great games as Battlestar Galactica, Bang, Saboteur and A Study in Emerald, and in its theme by TV shows and movies like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Mission: Impossible, the Bond films, Archer and more, [redacted] is for those who like mystery - and action - in their games.

With [redacted], our campaign goal is to determine the size of the print run - this is why the goal is so low, we have already paid a lot of money for the art.
We will be selling the game for €40 / $55 at Essen & from our website, and shipping costs are between €10 / $15 (EU) and €15 / $20 (US & worldwide). The total post-campaign cost could be as high as $75.
Note that the rewards list on the right may not display properly for Chrome users - it is optimized for viewing with Firefox.
Custom-illustrated material ($125-$195 levels) is *not* part of the game - it is provided separately, outside of the box, to those backers that backed for them.
Q: All pledge levels are sold out - what gives?
A: In the attempt to deliver on what our backers expect of us, we have limited the amount of pledge rewards to 1000 copies of the game. [redacted]: Mercenaries is the first expansion to the game. We are planning to produce it at the same time as the base game, and we would love to know exactly how many to make.
This expansion adds a whole another layer to [redacted], making it much more of a gamer's game, and increasing play time by about 25-50%. It contains 40 new cards, including some new items. It will be later sold for €10 / $14.
In Mercenaries, agents do not have any loyalty other than to themselves. They each tasked to achieve several missions by their employers, and compete with each other to be the most successful mercenary.
For each mission, players have a partner, although not usually the same one for every mission - which leads to temporary and shifting alliances of convenience in the race to win the most money.
As previously indicated, [redacted]: Mercenaries will now be given to all backers, for free. Please read the relevant backer update for more details, to see some representative art, and to download the rules.
If you intend to attend Spiel 2014 in Essen, you may via the backer survey, choose to pick your game up at the fair, along with 5 EUR in cash.
Backer rewards will be shipped from Germany. Our primary shipping provider is Deutsche Post/DHL. EU backers do not have to worry about customs or VAT.
As some our our past USA backers know, we've had trouble finding a reliable partner for local fulfillment, and we are still considering our options. If we do find a company that can provide that, we will hire them.
Shipments to worldwide backers will have 35 EUR declared as the value of the package. That's roughly equivalent to 51.32 CAD / 50.46 AUD / 42.37 CHF / 4821 JPY, and should be under the threshold that triggers customs duties in most countries.
What You See Is What You Get - this is our doctrine, and we like to run simple, straightforward campaigns. We are aware that offering add-ons and/or introducing stretch goals would increase the funding total. However, we have already thrown everything into this game - a lot of time, effort, and money. We intend to print with the highest quality materials anyway and we will not cut any corners.
We also want to offer the game at the cheapest cost possible - and that is incompatible with stretch goals. We'd have to add "hidden" profit in the pledge levels, that we can then "spend" to give you stretch goals to get excited about. Therefore, raising money beyond our goal does not give us extra money on hand to create stretch goals.
Furthermore, because the games are made in Europe, and because we do small print runs, we do not benefit by economies of scale by producing more copies of the game.
If we do offer additional content, we will lock past pledge levels. That's it - you do not need to pay more, or like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter or be a fan on BGG - although all of those things are nice of you if you do them, we want you to do them if you want to, not because of a carrot we dangle in front of you.
We do not do add-ons (not even our other games), because we want to keep our operations simple, and deliver efficiently. We are in this for the long run, so it does not help us to squeeze a few more dollars from a few backers, if we disappoint *all* backers.

Risks and challenges
All previous campaigns except Town Center 4th edition, Town Center: London / Hong Kong and ESSEN have been fulfilled. We are working with a manufacturer we have worked with before, and we are confident in our ability to deliver the game and any stretch goals. That said, unforeseen events may affect how quickly fulfillment is conducted, and the final graphics and components that you see presented here are subject to (however improbable) change. We will be exhibiting at Essen, and it is very likely that some backers or other people may have the game in hand before you do. Delivery times may vary according to your local postal services - once we ship, the shipment is the responsibility of the shipping company. Pretending you are a secret agent and using spy film quotes in every day life (or at least while ordering drinks) may cause severe groaning, retaliatory quoting, and ants.
