Reading of a gay-themed musical: "Lube: A Modern Love Story"
A new gay-themed musical with positive gay role models and a message to gay youth: Just love yourself; the rest will fall in place.
We’re holding a public reading of LUBE: A MODERN LOVE STORY on October 1st, 2016, 7 pm at San Diego’s LGBT Center. LUBE is a new gay-themed musical. It's a Boy meets Boy, Boy loses Boy story that includes a few twists along the way. It’s set in modern times (2014) at a fictitious high school in Amarillo, Texas.
The show addresses the experience of growing up gay in a bigoted world, dealing with the decision whether to stay in or come out of the closet, bullying, prejudice, and religious persecution. But it also deals with coming out, friendship, changing attitudes, and ultimately acceptance – especially what is sometimes the hardest of all: self-acceptance. You'll meet straights, gays, bisexuals, and even a drag queen or two.
This gay romp is loaded with humor, witty lyrics, and catchy music that will make you want to sing along. Join Andy and Manny as they meet, fall in love, and then fall apart due to the influences of their friends and family. Will they ever get back together, or will they decide to hide their sexuality and live lives full of despair and lies?
The only way to find out is to see the show! Or at least listen to it (this is a READING, after all). So why do we need to raise $25,000 to hold a reading? We want to hire an LGBT Celebrity to host , and since this is a musical there are a lot of costs related to the music! Plus, we want to make a splash, a big splash that will help propel us all the way to BROADWAY!!
LUBE provides positive role models and interesting characters in an entertainment package that will have audiences singing along and leaving the theater feeling inspired and uplifted. It closely aligns with the “It Gets Better” Project with a message to at-risk gay youth that it does, in fact, get better. And as Queen Angel says to one troubled gay kid in the play, “Just love yourself; the rest will fall in place.”
It’s finally time for this new genre, the gay musical – starting gay teens, about growing up gay, written by a gay man, and intended for gay and gay-supportive audiences – to make its debut. Noises off… Curtain!!

The biggest reason we are using Kickstarter is that if we can fund this campaign, we can hire an LGBTQ Celebrity to Emcee the event. That would allow us to get a ton more publicity and bring national attention to what we're trying to accomplish. We know who we want, but that person hasn't yet agreed to participate so we don't want to name him or her. However, once the campaing is fully funded, and if we are ab le to confirm the booking date with his or her agent, we will update this page with an announcement of who will be the host of this very exciting evening of entertainment.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
