About

Hi, I'm Michael Kurek, a classical music composer who just had a dream offer from my record company -- to do my next album with the London Symphony Orchestra, who have agreed to do it! The only catch is that the production overhead to record a full orchestra is very high!  My previous album, The Sea Knows, made its debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Traditional Classical Music chart in 2017 and many people have said it has deeply touched them and added beauty to their lives. We want to build upon that momentum by recording this album with one of the world's great orchestras. This is about uplifting people with beautiful, emotional, and melodic music, which I believe is something the world could use at this time, and worth supporting. Please visit My Website  to learn more about me and to hear many examples of my work, or click on the image below to go to more information about the project, including a prospectus and detailed budget from Parma Recordings.

Risks and challenges

Normally, there is a great deal of artistic risk to compose music for a symphony orchestra, because there are so many things (like mistakes in the players' parts and instruments out of balance with each other) that can go wrong. It takes a great deal of training and experience to compose this music. Fortunately, I'm not new at it, having done it many times with performances in several countries. I have a doctorate in music composition from the University of Michigan and teach others how to score for orchestra in the orchestration class at Vanderbilt University, and this particular piece is being road tested in readings by the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia before we put it in front of the London Symphony, in order to tweak or get any little bugs out of it and be sure that everything works.
