Landscape photography of uniquely American geography and geology that too few of us have the opportunity to see and appreciate.
Land & Sea Imagery: American Landscapes will be part a collection of distinctively American landscape images that has been in the works for more than a year. This Kickstarter project is YOUR opportunity to be involved by offering your comments, suggestions and ideas to me (via Facebook messenger, E-mail or website) for locations to be photographed as I make my way from destination to destination.
This October, I will be venturing out west once again to complete this portion of the project by photographing several geographically unique and scenic areas in the southwestern United States. Your input, support and patronage in this effort will be greatly appreciated.
Images So Far...
A number of images for the project have already been shot within the last year in Colorado and northeastern Utah. The current plan is to shoot additional images further west, in Arizona and southern Utah. In addition to what will be photographed for this phase of the project, all of the images on my website will be available to be selected for your sponsorship rewards as well.
After flying in to MacCarren International Airport in Las Vegas (A), I will be traveling to northern Arizona and southern Utah to photograph some of the most awesome and scenic vistas in this country. My intended destinations include the waterfalls of Supai, AZ (B), Sedona, AZ (C), and Antelope Canyon (D) in Page, AZ. From northern Arizona, I'll then take the back roads up through southern Utah to Bryce Canyon (E) and Zion NP (F) before returning to Nevada to photograph Valley of Fire State Park (G), time permitting.
During the photo expedition, you can follow along and get regular progress updates and offer real time comments, suggestions and ideas via the Land & Sea Facebook page. Facebook "Likes" are certainly appreciated as are website comments. Similarly, e-mails to me at LandandSeaImagery@gmail.com are encouraged and will be responded to as time permits.
Sponsorship Funding Premiums
The images from this photo expedition will be posted in late October/early November on my website: Land & Sea Imagery.
As a token of appreciation for your financial support, and in addition to these new images which will be available both online and on my Facebook page by the end of October, your image choice(s) can also be selected from those that are currently posted on my website. The sponsorship contribution amounts for all of the image sizes and formats (print, metal and canvas) are significantly less than the posted website and gallery prices, and are only available through this Kickstarter campaign.
It is also important to note that all of the Kodak paper prints offered as sponsorship rewards are mounted on a protective 3/16" thick foam core backing, are pre-matted with white 100% acid free archival mat board, and ready for framing. All sponsorship reward choices also include delivery to US destinations.
The majority of the sponsorship rewards offered will be delivered in November 2013. The Canvas Gallery Wraps take 10 days to two weeks to produce, and will be delivered by mid-December 2013, and in time for the Holiday Season. For deliveries outside of the US, please allow up to an additional 2 to 3 weeks.
How the funds will be used
Getting to the starting point of Supai, AZ, round-trip airfare to Las Vegas is first on the expense list. After airfare there's car rental, and of course gasoline for the car rental. Hotel/Motel accommodations are next, followed by meals.
There's also the expense of printing the images. The cost to produce and mail the most of the rewards is actually a significant portion of the sponsorship funding donation itself. Coupled with the travel costs, my funding goal is actually minimal.
For starters, Kickstarter's fee for a successfully funded project is 5% and the Amazon payment processing fee for pledges range from 3% to 5%. The cost of production, matting, processing and mailing is an additional 60% to 65% (depending upon the reward), leaving between 25% to 33% of the contributed funds to cover the actual project expenses.
Again, your help and support is greatly appreciated!
Comments, Questions, Suggestions of Ideas?
As they always seem to be, this photo expedition is a constantly evolving plan of varying location ideas at each destination and the route in between. Although I've scouted each location as meticulously as I could with Google Maps and Google Earth, there's no real substitute for audience input. This is where your ideas and suggestions are more than welcomed, they're encouraged!
If you have any thoughts, requests or suggestions that something along the travel route may be a great subject photo, please don't hesitate to 'speak' up, and again, THANK YOU for your support!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Some would assume that the greatest downside to photographing landscapes is the weather. Having been out west several times in the past few years, the weather conditions during the month of October have always been ideal, but I'm also prepared to shoot in stormy conditions, should they occur.
The biggest challenge, though, will be staying on schedule. Not because I set an ambitious itinerary with 6 locations, but rather mustering the discipline to leave one phenomenally scenic location for the next.
