THE ZOO AND AQUARIUM VIDEO ARCHIVE project preserves for future generations the stories, trials, and triumphs of those individuals who have changed the face of zoos.
The project currently has over 30 interviews. Including such notables as: Ed Maruska, William Conway, Gary Clarke and Dr. Lee Simmons. Video snippets of these interviews are available on our website at http://www.zoovideoarchive.org/
We are seeking support for Phase II: The Archive
Archiving is transcribing, indexing and printing of a hardbound book of each interview. Time-codes are included in the book that correspond with the video. Time-codes are used to help locate exact quotes from the index to the video. This will allow the Archive to be user friendly, allowing quick access to information.
In this phase, each interview will cost around $2,500 to complete. We are asking for $5,000 to complete at least two interviews. If we raise more money, we will be able to finish more interviews.
This project is the only one of its kind in the zoo world. The project is under the non-profit banner of the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, a 501c3. Meaning, your donation will be tax deductible. The Archive will be housed at the Pittsburgh Zoo.
The Zoo & Aquarium Video Archive is endorsed by the American Zoo Association (AZA) and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). Check our website for additional endorsements.
Risks and challenges
We have minimized the risks by putting together a great team that are experts in their fields. We have done a run through already with one book and understand the problems and pit falls of creating such books.
Our deadlines are self imposed but we want to share this project as soon as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
