REDEFINING RESPONSIBLE FASHION
Thank you for visiting our Kickstarter page! LOZENA is a family-owned fashion house with a mission to produce luxury womenswear in an ecological and socially responsible manner. We’re sisters - Kathrine is in charge of business operations and Viktoria is the creative brain behind the company.
We started LOZENA three years ago with our mother because we noticed a lack of eco-friendly and ethically-made clothing in the upscale, mainstream marketplace. Our ethical philosophy stems from our Bulgarian and Macedonian heritage, and our Slavic roots are reflected in the design aesthetic.
Our tailored designs and statement pieces are fresh and transition easily from day to night. While the core of our business is the sourcing of sustainable fabric and the ethical, fair treatment of producers, our top-quality construction, luxurious materials, and innovative designs are made for the bold and elegant trendsetter.
GOOD FOR PEOPLE + THE PLANET
Fashion is one of the most polluting industries in the world, second only to oil in terms of its environmental impact. From raw material acquisition, to textile production, to apparel manufacturing, to product disposal, fashion is among the dirtiest industries in the world.
We choose fabrics that have minimal impact on the environment, from seed to spinning. Our fabric selections include Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) cotton; alpaca and merino wool; raw silk, and luxurious blends of organic cotton, hemp, and silk. The dyes used in these fabrics are low-impact and do not contain heavy metals, azo or iso chemical compounds.
The handwoven and fair trade fabrics we source also contribute to the livelihoods of communities in Bolivia, Cambodia, and India, particularly benefiting women who constitute the majority of workers in the global textile industry. Our deadstock fabrics are procured from high-end fashion houses, including Nicole Miller, Theory, and The Row. These fabrics were commissioned and incorporated into the designers' previous collections, and are no longer in use. We purchased the excess - reducing what would otherwise be waste to create limited-run pieces.

Who Made Your Clothes? Large fashion brands have failed to implement meaningful standards for garment workers in their supply chains. The 2013 Rana Plaza building collapse in Bangladesh, which housed several factories making clothing for American and European fast fashion brands, is the worst garment factory disaster ever, killing over 1,100 people. The price pressure large buyers put on their suppliers has deterred local factories from increasing wages or undertaking costly repairs to improve the safety of working environments. Furthermore, garment workers in Bangladesh earn 1/4 of a living wage - the lowest in the world - and Bangladesh is increasingly drawing global retailers as labor costs in other countries rise.
At LOZENA, we value transparency. In addition to careful consideration of our suppliers, we know our producers in Bulgaria, pay them living wages, and work with them closely to ensure they are satisfied with their working conditions.
LOZENA IS THE FUTURE OF FASHION
Today, consumers demand high-value, lasting products. Our versatile pieces combine effortlessly - they can be worn from the office to a dinner party; from coffee meetings to cocktail lounges, and will remain in your closet for generations. LOZENA touches every aspect of the dynamic woman's lifestyle, while fulfilling her aspirations to be a trendsetter and thoughtful consumer. The LOZENA woman always makes a statement with style and integrity.
We are building a globally recognizable sustainable fashion brand. Help us bring LOZENA to the public by backing our project. We will use the funds raised in this Kickstarter to create inventory, re-design our e-commerce site, and launch a pop-up shop in one of three key markets.
LOZENA is for the woman who heralds originality; the woman who demands quality; the woman who wants to change the world.
We will send a (short!) survey to all of our backers at the conclusion of a successful campaign. Information will be collected to fulfill your rewards according to your color, style, and size preferences.
