LOYAL WIFE / GET RIGHT
Five years ago, I, David Jensen and good friend, Ashley Taylor created a Loyal Wife crowdfunding campaign centered around a number of songs I wrote during my days under the moniker "Art For Starters." It was wildly successful, thanks to our thoughtful backers who nearly broke the internet while sharing our Kickstarter.
Life has been quite different since then.
Good? Yes. Creative? Sure, but different.
Increased responsibilities with home + work + family + church can put other personal needs in a corner for more important AND time sensitive commitments. Sure...“Nobody puts baby(my music) in the corner,” ...unless there's an actual baby crying in the corner!!
After contributing to, and changing at least 5k diapers in the last 5yrs, I need another 'Kickstart!’ Loyal Wife has begun work on album 2...
Struggling with a number of health challenges and concerns, I had no physical outlet and I left no vacancy for music. I didn't feel "right." 9 emergency room visits, 3 surgeries and 3 years passed before my loyal wife encouraged me to picked up a guitar and write again. A condition I have makes it very difficult for me to grip and play the guitar. It was grueling to try to get back into playing shape, and then to perform in the studio.
In addition to this spousal intervention (and the serendipitous availability of David Jerkovich), I truly felt an intervention of a divine nature. (no sacrilege meant.) This feeling and David's ability to play some of my more demanding guitar parts, gave me the motivation and help I needed!
As I say in the video, I want to approach this opportunity with a greater sense of gratitude and outreach. I didn't want to mess this up. If I was going to 'get right,' I was going to have to 'do right' and that included "paying forward."
I included students from Mesa Community College in the process. We worked together to develop art and ideas that we liked. The album singles and other packaging will include the great work of 10 different college collaborators. It was a pleasure engaging over the semester with Chris, Kelly, Andrea, Kate, Donna, Rebecca, Jeremy, Michael, Madison, Amber, and Megan.
With designs in motion and after an intensive month w/ David & Danny @The Ocotillo in LA, we have 16 songs in various degrees of completion.

JOIN MY 'GET RIGHT' CHALLENGE...
I'm sure many of us neglect parts of ourselves as we advance in our lives. Refinement can have unnecessary casualties. With this project, I aim to reach others who may have become 'numb' to joys they once shared, as I. And to encourage you to reach out to someone you trust. Then, develop an inclusionary process for which you too can 'get right.' (Please reach out to me about this.)
Listen below to the first love song I've ever written. This album is dedicated to my loyal wife, Annelise. I've be forever grateful to her encouragement to create again. I can't imagine releasing music under any other name, and I thank Ashley Taylor for her blessing!
