Con on the Cob? What the goose is a Con on the Cob?
That, my friend, is a very good question. To put it simply: Con on the Cob is a coalescence of all Human experience, refined and distilled into an essential cloud of pure smiles. To put it even more simply: it’s a FOUR DAY CELEBRATION OF GAMES, ART, FREAKS, AND FUN!
Con on the Cob is all things to all people. It’s a gaming con, chock full of RPGs, board games, card games, party games, and all sorts of that kind of jazz. It’s also an art fair, with a large selection of talented artists in attendance and an amazing abundance of fantasy, science fiction, horror, and geeky art and art activities. Oh, and it’s The Mother of All Marketplaces, with more than 60 vendors showcasing a wide variety of jazz, snazz, and zazz, boosting the geekonomy like old school Robin Hoods but without the stealing and the archery (ok, not like Robin Hoods. I failed analogy class in Kindergarten). Don’t forget the parties…Did I mention the parties? There are parties. A LOT of them. Also there are other things, like amazing special Guests, the Children of the Cob, the Comedy Music Extravagasm!, a Drag Show, a Burlesque Show, Karaoke, a super sweet Auction, Food Trucks, a Games Library, free snacks in the Con Suite, Panels, Workshops, and Demos, a whole track of Cosplay and Fandom related activities, and a massive horde of potential friends and peeps who dig the same things you dig!
This Kickstarter fundraiser will allow us to bring more value to your Con on the Cob experience. Not only will we hopefully have more funds on hand to cover advertising, guests, and venue expenses, we can also provide exclusive items and rewards, such as the CotC annual yearbook and exclusive d6 provided with almost every pledge.
At Con on the Cob we strive to create a safe, welcoming community for all people regardless of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, or strain of geekdom.
Con on the Cob happens October 3-6, 2019 at the Days Inn & Suites in Richfield, Ohio. It's a former Holidome with a huge atrium, indoor pool, miniature golf, playground, and all sorts of other incredibly fun stuff.
Book your stay at the host hotel by June 8th and be sure to tell them you are with Con on the Cob in order to qualify for a FREE COB CRATE (scroll down for more information). Here's the phone number to call: (330) 659-6151.

THE COTC ONSITE GUIDE

Anyone who purchases an ad of any size will also have their name (or company name) listed on the front page of the Con on the Cob website.
To nab an ad simply add the amount listed below to any pledge and send us a message letting us know what you added. Please email ads to firstname.lastname@example.org by September 1, 2019.

Potato Salad ($5000): There will be potato salad.
Andy will get a Coblin Tattoo ($10,000): Andy will get a tattoo of a coblin, hopefully at the con in front of everybody.
More Stretch Goals to come...
This year's theme is a weird one. Robots and giant monsters is a familiar and perhaps overdone genre but ROBOTS VS GIANT MONSTERS BUT ALSO EVERYTHING IS MADE OUT OF PRETZELS is something completely new and original! See, every year Con on the Cob has a different theme. This theme carries into many of the activities and parties, as well as the decorations, badges, and other such subtleties. In the past we've had some doozies (Cyberfunk Invasion, Cosmic Circus, Rise of the Elder Cobs, Cobs and Cobbers, The Gawds of Coblympus, Some Sort of Enchanted Fairy Forest or Something, etc...). Guests at Con on the Cob get to vote on the theme for the following year and Robots vs Giant Monsters won by a slim margin. However, it wouldn't be Con on the Cob if we didn't weird it up, so there you go...
Coins on the Cob are special collectable plastic tokens we use to reward game masters and others for their exemplary participation in Con on the Cob. To read more about these wondrous artifacts please follow this link.
COB CRATES are special boxes (sometimes bags) of awesome jazz we give FOR FREE to Con on the Cob attendees who meet a few requirements. They are stocked with some really great stuff (board games, card games, jewelry, candy, books, geeky stuff, etc...) donated by our sponsors and by our incredible friends at Alliance Game Distributors. Last year's COB CRATES contained items with a combined average value of over $100. They're a fantastic prize for pretty much doing something you were probably already planning on doing anyway. Here's all you have to do to nab one:
- Back this Kickstarter for at least $45 (at least one 4 Day Badge).
- Book your stay (at least two nights) at our host hotel (Days Inn & Suites in Richfield, Ohio) by June 8th and be sure to tell them you are with Con on the Cob. Here's the phone number to call: (330) 659-6151.
- Send me a message on Kickstarter with your reservation number or the name the reservation is under so we can verify your qualifications.
- You must attend CotC 2019 in order to claim your COB CRATE.
- If you already qualify for a COB CRATE because of actions taken before this Kickstarter launched you will still receive it. No worries.
- We reserve the right to limit COB CRATES to the first 50 qualified backers, so pledge early! We'll make as many as we can, but we can't promise more than fifty.
The contents of the COB CRATES depend on what our generous contributors send us and how many people claim them. If you are interested in contributing to the COB CRATES please send me a message.
"Con on the Cob is the best convention since sliced convention!"
Harrison Hunt, The Wild Die Podcast
"I was honored to be an artist guest at Con on the Cob in the very early start of the convention many years ago. The simple fact that it is run by and created by the genius, kind hearted, artist of all things disgusting, vile and fun, Andy Hopp, wife Heather and daughters just adds to the guarantee of its success all these years later. This con is the most all inclusive, family friendly and loaded with talent event you can be a part of. All hail to the Coblin King!!"
Ed Beard Jr., artist
"Con on the Cob is the perfect blend of family friendly and wild abandon. Games galore, zany entertainment, and just the right size for hanging with friends both new and old."
Robert Turk, Wicked Clever
"Con on the Cob, has been hands down the single best con I've ever attended. Quality people, and an inclusive atmosphere, with enough to do to ensure you only have a bad time if you try to."
Chad Crider, Foolish Media
"Dice Squad gives Con on the Cob two corn cobs up!"
Adam Campbell, Dice Squad
"Con on the Cob was my first convention to ever perform at! Andy was incredibly gracious and supportive of my career, and continues to be to this day. He helped cultivate a great group of friends and fans I have the honor of calling my convention family! I hope to perform at his convention again soon, and am so grateful for his generosity and family fun quality that his show provides. The entire Hopp family is the best!"
Destini Beard, Singer
"Con on the Cob is legit my favorite con. We've been to all of them, and I intend to keep going to all of them! Do not attempt to ingest Con on the Cob though, it's too big to eat even if you've got 4 days. Maybe get a friend and a couple extra plates and forks or something. Goes well with ranch dressing, hot fudge, or wasabi."
Kay Steele, Internet Personality and Miniature Painter
"I attended my first Con on the Cob a little over three years ago. I barely knew anyone walking in, but by the time the first day ended I felt like I found a whole new family! Everyone is so nice and welcoming. Especially the owner, Andy Hopp! He immediately noticed I was new on the scene and treated me exactly like an old friend! I love this convention with all my heart and soul. I can 100% say that Con on the Cob is my favorite convention and no matter what, I'll always be there!"
Doris Rachson, 24 Hour Ninja Exterminator (unsubstantiated)
"I recommend Con on the Cob to all aspiring artists and parents who want to be as young as the children they can take with them."
Sherry Dees, CotC Attendee
"It's like a freak show, in the best way."
Lee Garvin, Righteous Knight of Fawndr...
"I've been coming to Con on the Cob since 2012, after a long hiatus from going to conventions, and this convention renewed my amazement and wonder at the arts, games, and good convention FUN. New friendships, great events, and an amazing amount of activities await the young and old. If you want to venture into the wonderland convention known as Con on the Cob, you will be extremely amazed!"
Ryan Cribley, Guy who has been coming to Con on the Cob since 2012, after a long hiatus from going to conventions.
Risks and challenges
Con on the Cob has been an ongoing adventure since 2004. We've changed a lot over the years, learning from mistakes, expanding options, switching dates and venues several times, and working hard to bring you the greatest, safest, most inclusive, and most fun experience possible.
There's always the risk that guests will have other last minute obligations or a meteorite could crash through the ceiling, crippling Gandersnitch the Goblin and ruining a perfectly good Dungeon Master's Guide, but that's remarkably unlikely.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
