From Pearl: With your help we hope to publish OUR story. Each sentence speaks for itself by offering a whole new perspective regarding parenting of a homosexual child as well as being able to be true to one's self through it all. As a mother-daughter team we have conquered our fair share of fear and struggle, but through trial and triumph we have learned to take it upon ourselves to fill the empty spots in our relationship with strong communication and no-strings-attached support and understanding. This book is about our journey traveling though my "coming out" and the roller coaster of emotions, thoughts, conversations and realizations as well as the tears, confusion, and smiles that we have been through. It has not been an easy journey, in fact it has been absolutely heart-wrenching at times, but no amount of hurt feelings has been able to destroy our relationship and we plan on keeping it that way. We are sharing our story in hopes to offer new ways of thinking, provide different approaches to different situations, and to do all of it through unconditional love.
From Pearl’s Mom: This project has been a labor of love. I love my daughter and I love my God. I love my family and I love my world. But, what happens when faith and family collide? What’s a mother to do? Find the unity. Find the important message. Stay strong, feet firmly planted. Be honest. Do what I do naturally, love. Unconditionally can be the challenge sometimes. Pain, shame, division – these are not what makes healthy families. The longer I live, the more convinced I am that God allows everything good and bad to happen. There is a lesson in it all. To love like He loves. We must learn to respect our fellow man, as they are challenged to respect us as well. This message is for people of all faith walks, races, genders and ages. We must teach our children to be unconditionally respectful of all people. Eventually this skill will allow them to learn to love unconditionally. They will be us one day. I address my fellow Christians especially, it is in us, and how we show the true love and acceptance Jesus commanded, that others will see Jesus walking. Note: Although this is not in the original book, someone please tell Ellen DeGeneres about this project, because no joke, Pearl and I watched her show after she got home from school. We loved to dance with Ellen and at the very end of the show she always says, "Be kind to one another" as she waves goodbye. This was a big ice-breaker and it helped us focus on our mother-daughter relationship instead of the stress. So, thank you Ellen for your example of unconditional love!
Risks and challenges
STRETCH GOAL: If funding is modestly over the minimum goal, I would like to add a section for BACKER'S STORIES.
The risk is an honest one, our family story will be out.....But, fear can be overcome with courage and encouragement. And because we are but a vessel, there are many, many families who will be helped by this project.
Loving Pearl IS ALREADY COMPLETE AND READY FOR PRINT. It's been edited so turn-around time will be quick.
