LOVE SHORE HAS HIT ITS FUND GOAL!
Thank you for everyone supporting us! We have some awesome stretch goals you can read more details about below! Let’s get some awesome additions!
Features the “First Chapter” of Love Shore and acts as a World/Character introduction to showcase the art, music and storytelling that will be present in the completed game.
- Two main characters with completely unique, yet intertwining stories to choose from
- Each character has four romanceable options
- Rated 17+ for mature language, sexual themes, and violence.
The demo of Love Shore is a work in progress, showcasing our team’s abilities to produce a story of this caliber. There are no save/load options but should take only 30 minutes to play both character introductions. There are an estimated 12 chapters per route included in the final game.
**We plan for Love Shore to be available on Steam**
Welcome to Love Shore, a city that transforms at night. The futuristic metropolis also just happens to also be populated with cyborgs, old gods hidden in the depths of a criminal underground, and humans eager to crawl their way to the top, no matter what the cost.
After a fertility crisis changed the landscape of the city for good, a single company stepped in to help the residents: Life S. Incorporated, a biotech firm that claimed to be able to build life out of raw DNA, creating a fully formed human with thoughts, feelings, and morality of their own.
Their minds, physical appearance, and personality would be drawn from their parents’ DNA, but the children would be ‘born’ using artificial bodies. This new generation would be called the S.Humans: a non-aging, tough form of new life.
Love Shore is a visual novel game that takes concepts we've always loved in sci-fi, action, and horror and blends them together to create something wild. It features a queer, diverse cast, a seemingly endless city, and a story of coming into yourself and doing what you think is right…with a heavy dose of drama and violence mixed in for good measure.
Love Shore features two playable protagonists with four romanceable options, each with their own storylines. The cast is entirely LGBT+. The game’s projected features will include 12 chapters, 24 possible endings, 60 CGs, 25 unique locations, and an original soundtrack.
Follow one of two protagonists, Farah or Sam, two drastically different S.Humans who have recently come back to the neon lit city from a stint in prison to old friends, even older foes, and a string of strange events and encounters that leave them concerned to say the least. Play as them as you navigate the two sides of Love Shore, investigate the city's deep rooted criminal underbelly, and help your companions on their quests for redemption, love, and power.
Love Shore has a cast of vastly different individuals, from S.Humans to Gods. Each person is unique in their motivations and in the way they interact with the world, and with you. Be careful to choose your friends and lovers wisely.
The more we talked to people, the more they asked What Makes Love Shore Special? Other than our story and concept, our mechanics bring something cool to the visual novel table too.
First, all NPCs will have an approval rating that fluctuates based on the choices of the main character, not just with them specifically but ALL choices. Their mood is indicated in our UI on the right hand side.
Second, we plan to have a clickable map. Love Shore changes from night to day and during that change, so do locations. By deciding where to go at what time of day will effect the main storyline!
Third, we have a small inner ratings system based on three stats (strength, intelligence and courage). These stats will open up certain dialogue options depending on the situation!
Another cool fact that makes Love Shore unique is that while playing one Route, the other is happening at the same time. There will be points where the routes cross and you will effect the outcome of the other. So if you’re playing Sam, you will run into Farah during her quest to find Imani and if you help or hinder is an option effecting yours and hers outcome!
THE PROTAGONISTS -
Love Shore is a vast and intricate city, and you’re going to need some local help to find out what’s going on. Each of your companions have different strengths, weaknesses, and connections that can either help or hinder you. Your companions can be your love interests, or you can just pursue true bromance: the choice is yours.
All companions in Love Shore have an approval rating for Sam or Farah, based on their interactions with them, and these ratings can unlock new dialogue and different paths!
FARAH’S COMPANIONS -
While Jo doesn't have a sprite appearance in the demo, they have always been set to appear in the game! Despite our previous wording, Jo is not an unlockable character (in game or otherwise) or a stretch goal and their relation to the story and their being in Love Shore had been decided since the beginning! We hope you'll love Jo as much as we do and thank you for your feedback! Here are the previews of Jo:
SAM’S COMPANIONS -
THE ART -
The beautiful sprites featured in Love Shore (as well as all the CGs) are done by Kabo. They are the lead character designer with a deep love for fashion and neon. (Hence, perfect for Love Shore).
Zi is the amazing individual behind all the environments you see in game! She is an illustrator and concept artist who loves doing promotional work inspired by film.
And that beautiful menu you see above? That’s by our UI Designer Sonja, who contributes a retro-sleek and professional look to the game. Besides being a huge memer, they have worked on a variety of design projects and games, both personal and professional.
THE WRITING -
Emmett is a writer, editor, and sci-fi/fantasy junkie whose published work is forthcoming in a queer fantasy anthology. He is additionally writing a comic, and trying desperately to finish a second draft of his novel. In the meantime, he is also as an arts and culture reviewer for the Boston Hassle. He loves speculative fiction centering marginalized voices over anything else.
Son M. is a writer known for her comic A Vampire in Paris and her published prose TEETHING and Cain. Love Shore was originally a small idea she had for a comic that blossomed into a whole project which she proposed to the team. She enjoys horror and science-fiction, her main inspiration being the John Wick films and Ghost in the Shell.
Jason is a freelance programmer, and founder of indie gamedev studio Stray Basilisk. He's a dedicated sci-fi nerd, and card-carrying Philip K Dick and Stanislaw Lem fanboy. Jason joined the team to help bring Perfect Garbage's creative vision for Love Shore into reality.
Jayson is the musical brains behind our soundtrack. He is an independent artist, musician who makes his own music and has worked on sound design for a handful of projects.
$55,000 – More sprites can be incorporated into the story! CUSTOMIZATION: We heard ya loud and clear! If we reach this goal, we’ll give in-game opportunities to customize Sam and Farah’s appearance, bringing your own unique flavor to Love Shore!
$60,000 – More CGs! This goal will allow us to include more beautiful illustrations during those heart wrenching or steamy scenes!
$65,000 – The Beginning! A 12+ comic, illustrated by Sam Curtis featuring the reason why Sam and Farah both wound up in prison prior to the game’s events! All backers who buy the game will receive the PDF if we hit this goal!
$70,000 – Voice Acting! We will be able to reach out to VA talents to give a voice to the wild characters of Love Shore!
We are looking to complete Love Shore by early 2021.
If this kickstarter is successfully funded, the rest of 2019 would be dedicated to writing and finalizing the all story routes and completing all the artwork needed. The last third of the year would be dedicated to development and implementing everything we create. Early 2020 is dedicated to adding any features or final touches, such as the soundtrack and, if successfully reached, the voice acting.
The 2021 release plan is a safe guard in case any emergencies or delays occur during development. If we complete the game earlier than expected, that’s great for you and we will immediately work on getting it to our backers!
Risks and challenges
The demo has been funded completely out of Son M.’s pocket and to create a game that’s this wonderful visually and musically, she needs the help of the whole team! Kickstarter will allow her to pay everyone for their hard work and to produce the game in a timely fashion.
During the creation of the demo, which had an incredibly tight deadline of a month and a half, everyone was productive and consistent in their output, never breaking deadlines and always working together. This gives us the confidence to say that as a team, we function incredibly well. Every step in our production process is well documented, and we constantly update our other platforms with progress on the game.
Everyone knows the horrors of projects that never see completion on Kickstarter, but we can assure you, with our current goal and schedule, the end is already in sight! We plan to post monthly updates to keep everyone in the loop of where the project is, including WIPS of development art, scripts and more!
Not only that, but we are easy to reach via email and will be constantly active on social media for any questions or concerns at any time! We are only human (some of us maybe S.Humans) and there is always an inherent risk when crowdfunding a game. Thankfully, we have all the makings of an efficiently run project with tons of combined experience. It’s only a matter of funding!
