LOVELAND micro real estate's first microhood is a 10,000 square inch sandbox named Plymouth on the east side of Detroit. Nearly 600 people from all over purchased the inches, which you can check out on this map: http://makeoveland.com/grids/1. Two young girls live next door with their mother and grandmother, and you can see and hear them being excited about their tiny new neighbors in this NPR piece: http://n.pr/dd7FWI . "I want people to remember this place. Remember it. And I want people to come over so we can get to know each other, learn new things about each other."
We've already bought them some art supplies and made plans for them to get more involved in adding art and ideas to Plymouth. Now they and a group of 8 other friends who live near by would like to draw pictures about their neighborhood and imagine things they'd like to see there. This round of fun-raising will buy them all paper and supplies, with the idea that their drawings can be turned into a picture and story book along with contributions from the LOVELAND team and Inchy. Inchy can't wait!
Along with funding the supplies, every dollar you put into the project will get you an inch of land in LOVELAND's second 50,000 square inch microhood, Hello World: http://makeloveland.com/grids/2 , and all backers will receive scans of the art work via email.
LOVELAND is working with our friend Courtney and the girls' Aunt BJ to purchase and distribute the supplies and facilitate the 10 young artists.
