Unlike other professional sports, baseball is played upon fields that vary in size from park to park. With the exception of the infield diamond, where strict rules regulate the dimensions, no two ballparks are alike. From the geometry of the field to the distance of the outfield fences, the cathedrals of baseball exhibit their own unique characteristics, making each a singular gem among the fields of baseball.
About this Series
THIRTY81 is an ongoing design study focused on the ballparks of Major League Baseball, highlighting and celebrating the qualities that make each venue unique.
The Ballpark Posters is the first of several series that will be created around the Thirty81 core theme. This series consists of 31 minimally designed posters — 30 individual 'Ballpark' posters representing the current Major League venues and one 'Index' poster specially designed to illustrate the variety of field geometry by overlapping the outlines of all 30 ballparks around a common infield pattern.
Each two-color Ballpark serigraph will measure 18" x 24" with the image masterfully printed on 100# Recycled White paper from the French Paper Company.
The 'Index' poster — also measuring 18" x 24" — will be printed using three colors (20% grey for the infield and typography) on 100# Recycled White French Paper.
Production and Shipping
The fine folks at Vahalla Studios have been selected to screen print all 31 poster designs. Widely known for their craftsmanship and superior quality, their enthusiasm for this project and valuable advice have been a considerable source of confidence.
Final prints will be rolled and shipped via USPS in heavy duty tubes to your door. Currently, only backers in the contiguous United States can be accommodated at this time. Alaska, Hawaii, Canada and other International orders may be accommodated at a later date if funding is remarkably successful.
Due to the extraordinary nature of this project I must commit to printing a minimum quantity of each of the 31 poster designs. For example, if only one person backs the 'Marlins Ballpark' poster, I must still print a minimum of 50 editions. As a result, the project requires significant kickstart funding to ensure all reward commitments are met. Most funds will go to printing and shipping the rewards, with a bit left over to cover incidentals — and perhaps a few beers at the game.
The goal of this poster series is to provide footing and momentum that will enable the broader scope of the THIRTY81 Project to move forward.

Risks and challenges
As an experienced graphic designer, I fully understand the production process from design to print. All 31 posters been designed and are 'press ready'. The main challenge will be the organization and logistics of shipping 31 designs over a brief period of time. The goal is to begin shipping rewards to backers by the start of the 2013 World Series (October 23) with all commitments fulfilled by mid-November.
