Unlike other professional sports, baseball is played upon fields that vary in size from park to park. With the exception of the infield diamond, where strict rules regulate the dimensions, no two ballparks are alike. From the geometry of the field to the distance of the outfield fences, the cathedrals of baseball exhibit their own unique characteristics, making each a singular gem among the fields of baseball.
THIRTY81 is an ongoing design study focused on the ballparks of Major League Baseball, highlighting and celebrating the qualities that make each venue unique.
Print Details and Shipping
This poster is the first of what will become a larger series of design projects focused around the core THIRTY81 theme.
Specially designed to illustrate the variety of field geometry by overlapping the outlines of all 30 ballparks around a common infield pattern, each print will measure 18" x 24" with the image masterfully printed in three solid colors on 100# cover stock.
Final prints will be rolled and shipped via USPS in heavy duty tubes to your door, with the intent to have all rewards delivered in time for the upcoming holidays.
The goal of this project is to provide footing and momentum that will enable the broader scope of the THIRTY81 Project to move forward.
I've been a visual communicator for most of my adult life. As a cartographer, designer, and photographer, I approach my work with a minimalist mindset — every mark, every line, every color, every image is used with purpose and meaning. I look for hidden or obscured patterns and attempt to reveal them in unique ways. As a passionate (some would say obsessive) baseball fan, the game is often a source of inspiration and the subject of both personal and professional efforts, whether it's mapping 214 foul balls in Baltimore, designing information graphics about my hometown Angels, or creating a set of ballpark specific scorecards (available for free).
Risks and challenges
As an experienced graphic designer, I fully understand the production process from design to print. The poster is already designed and 'press ready'. The biggest challenge will be the organization and logistics of fulfillment in time for the holiday season. While we cannot absolutely guarantee delivery in time for the holiday, we have every intention to begin shipping rewards no later than December 1st.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
