The Art of Beeing is a mural painting tour of the USA by British artist Louis Masai.
With 50% of species heading for extinction by 2050, we're fast running out of time to act. But, like bees, we can all make a difference. It's time to come together and help the planet thrive.
Tackling the extinction crisis one wall at a time, Louis will paint over 15 murals of local species under threat. These will appear in 12 cities across nine states in over just two months. All captured on film, with a dedicated website, it is the most ambitious mural project of its kind.
Starting on October 1st, the project is being made possible with the kind support of organisations working towards a more sustainable future. These include Synchronicity Earth, Bioneers, Kabloom, Human Nature, Miami Ad School, and Brooklyn Street Art.
But now you too can join us. With word spreading about the tour, demand for murals is increasing day by day. A number of new walls are now available for Louis to paint. But to do these we need funds. The more cash we have, the more walls we can paint, and more communities benefit. Simple.
The project needs £10,000.
A few pledgers have wanted to acquire several rewards...if this is something that you would like to do...that is perfectly fine, but please make a non reward pledge and message me what you want...i will amend the reward totals to reflect your requiremnts and dispatch accordingly...if you don't do it this way and make two pledges the first one becomes void...
Help stop the extinction crisis. Help The Art of Beeing reach it's full potential.
Join us. Together we can put nature first and help the planet thrive.
The Art Of Beeing tour starts on October 1st, which will be a couple of weeks before the Kickstarter crowdfunding ends. This means that there will most likely be a few murals completed by the time that you are reading this. Check out the developments of the tour so far here.

Some more information about the 'ART OF BEEING' mural tour:
The Issue ...
The extinction crisis affects hundreds of species across the USA. Masai is, in particular, focusing on bees because they’re crucial to the survival of ecosystems and species.
The USA boasts one of the most diverse displays of nature, whether it is desert, forest or swamps. Each ecosystem hosts its very own unique groups of species that depend upon the environment.
But, within the USA’s ecosystems are some of the worlds most endangered and invasive species. As human pressure on the natural environment increases, the problem is only escalating.
One in five animal and plant species in the USA —nearly 1,300 species—are at risk of extinction. The populations of more than two-thirds of all mammal species, from the wolverine to the polar bear, are falling.
For this trend to reverse, humans must re-evaluate nature and put species protection at the heart of society at every level; from policy to business, communities and individuals.
Like bees, humanity must come together and restore the planet.
Vision and Mission ...
Masai’s vision is a world in which nature is not only respected, but thrives. Together with his supporters, he wants to see a planet that nurtures animal species of all kinds.
His mission is to raise awareness of the decline of our species, celebrate and reconnect people with nature through street art.
He believes that together we can, and must, fight extinction.
Project Aims ...
- Raise awareness of the ‘sixth extinction crisis’
- Link up forward thinking people, organisations and communities - and contribute meaningfully to the environmental movement.
- Investigate the drastic decline in American bee populations.
- Contribute to urban regeneration and community building.
- Create a replicable project, a lasting knowledge base and legacy online.
About Louis Masai...
Louis Masai is a London based artist who uses nature as his muse. More importantly his work is a visual voice for endangered animals and the natural environment.
Widely acclaimed for his outdoor murals and street art Masai has worked with Friends Of The Earth, IUCN, Gaia Foundation, The Body Shop and Synchronicity Earth. The later forging a strong partnership that will continue to change the way environmental agencies interact with the public.
Over the past three years Masai has been creating murals around the world creating awareness for endangered species. He has visited the USA six times painting in New York, Philadelphia, Miami, and New Orleans. His most recent mural project, in partnership with Human Nature, the environmental art platform, was ENDANGERED 13.
Masai’s paintings will be created in his popular patchwork quilt style. Each of the animals will be adorned with one of his iconic bees stitching up the patchwork toy.
“I’m painting toys because, if we are not careful, soon only toys will remain in place of the animals threatened with extinction. Patchworks are of particular relevance because they were traditionally passed down amongst the women in families. I am leaving my patchwork paintings on walls for the children of tomorrow as memories. The bees in this series can be found stitching up the toys because they are the planets’ warriors; they are literally keeping the planet stitched together. Bees are under immense threat in the states.” Louis Masai
Each mural will pay homage to local species, informing passers by and online viewers with species information and how to act. Permission for painting will be obtained at all times, to adhere the upmost respect for sponsors and the communities in which the murals are painted.
The film ...
The Art of Beeing tour will be captured by London based film team Where’s Kong.
This will be edited into regular six minute short online films posted each week, for eight weeks. These will commence two weeks into the tour and concluding two weeks after their return.
Where’s Kong is a London based production company, founded by Tearlach Byford and Emil Walker. they focus on under counter cultural movements including drift racing, street art, international football and music. A highly experienced and skilled team, they have produced work for a number of organisations including Nissan, The Body Shop, Channel 4, and the BBC. They were also the team behind the ENDANGERED13 film, featured on www.humannatureshow.com/endangered13 .
Why street art?...
Louis and his team believe that art changes people. Visual communication has the ability, in particular, to motivate and engage young people. They are our future. They want to inspire, educate and activate those who are ready to make a difference on key environmental issues.
Louis believes that the general public has fallen victim to pessimism. It’s time to turn to positivity. Its our hope that if we can encourage people to be less materialistic and more conscious of nature, that the environment will reap the rewards of a new way of thinking. The desired result is a happier mankind and a healthier planet.
Impact and Legacy...
One of our core aims is to have an ongoing impact on attitudes, awareness of the extinction crisis and wider environmental issues. A crucial part of education is to direct the audience to a space for more information. This space will also inspire replication and help build momentum for this and any future projects. In short, we want the project to have maximum impact for the local community and beyond.
- Online platform: www.artofbeeing.org A dedicated editorial micro site will give information on the project; hold the films, and bold, high impact images of each work. It will also host information about each of the species in the paintings and how to take action. This will include further links for more information and how to take action. This website will host this project and be set up in advance of the tour for pre-publicity and hold information about the project sponsors. For a similar site see www.humannatureshow.com/endangered13
- QR Codes Each mural will link the viewer back to the online platform via a printed and pasted QR code.

Risks and challenges
Of course weather conditions can have effect on developments, to which there is little that anyone can do except wait it out and continue when conditions improve. The plus side of being an experienced artist from London, is that more or less all weather conditions can occur in the same day. Louis seldom lets the weather stop him from completing a days work painting.
Damaged camera equipment. if this happens we will have to purchase replacements, fortunately we have some good local camera hire and purchase knowledge in each of the major city destinations. A good insurance policy helps too.
The local community take a dislike to the mural. its never happened in all my years painting murals, but if it did i would just paint it back out.
Fall off a ladder and break a body part. Again it's never happened before, but if it did, a trip to A&E and a few days rest will have me back at the wall in no time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
