About this project

What we are proposing – swimwear designs:

Originally, our aim was to design enhanced swimwear for women with limited mobility,   However, we discovered that as women age, bladders get weaker, urgency and frequency increase. For the disabled person this is realized much sooner, but it is inevitable for most women to have bladder issues as they age. With the need for quick access to the bathroom, a tankini is always the first choice over the one-piece swimsuit. It's just too hard to undress fully, and efficiently especially for the disabled individual.

Design #1 – The One-Piece Two- Piece

A one-piece swimsuit with a snug fit is very desirable, but not for a disabled person, or those with a weak bladder. One-piece swimsuits are covering, which make them a popular choice for many women, for a variety of reasons. However, they can be a nuisance as well. My proposed design is a one-piece looking swimsuit that is actually two pieces held together by magnets on either side. Magnetic buttons or strips will secure the bottoms to the top portion. This will create a one-piece look that is sleek and form fitting, while allowing for easy access when going to the washroom. It is my intention to use a durable high quality material that will with stand the elements of chlorinated and salt water. The strength of the magnets used is of priority. Magnets that are strong enough to give the illusion of a one-piece without compromising efficiency when removing the swimsuit.

The design is shown below:

Design #2 – Corset-style Tankini

Tankinis always flip and raise and float in the water. For some individuals, this is mere annoyance but for the disabled person who may not have the use of their arms, this can be very problematic. My proposed design is to use bikini/bra clips down the top portion of the tankini to solve this problem. Since the majority of women are concerned about coverage, this tankini will provide the needed form and suction of the mid-section. This will create an added benefit to the existing tankini, that rides up in the water and exposes the mid-section. This change would also accommodate individuals who cannot raise their arms above their head when dressing. Similarly, the bottoms have been designed to provide more coverage, so the swimsuit doesn’t ride up on the person who may not have use of their arms.

The design is shown below:

I am very passionate about Advanced Freedom, and although inspired by my disability, Advanced Freedom is innovative and provides a unique benefit that will be inclusive for all women. It is the answer for many disabled individuals who haven't been considered when designing your traditional swimwear,  Advanced Freedom provides less worry, less hassle, and the feeling of comfort and style.

I am happy to be supported by a very talented and experienced swimwear designer Marina Pascale. Marina is a Canadian-based entrepreneur and the designer behind the brand La Maison De Pascale. Marina closely works with young women and helps to develop their talents and nurture aspirations for self- development. She is familiar with many challenges facing growing talent and always finds a way to support young women in local communities. Marina has vast experience with fashion events and has worked with young women on multiple projects from charity events to small fashion shows.

Her accomplishments include founding the “Love + Fashion = Cure” event that ran a successful fundraising program in support of Prostate Cancer Canada. She has served as a judge at the Miss Black Beauty Canada pageant, and the Miss Canada Tourism pageant. She has sponsored several candidates in Miss World Canada, acted as the official swimwear sponsor for the swimwear contest at Miss Canada Tourism and Miss Black Beauty Canada, and has helped others by being a career mentor.

Our Goal:

In addition to your financial support, I look for your opinions to design this accessible swimwear that’s made for all women. Your input will help shape the final product. Over the past few months, with assistance from experts, we crafted a few styles and are ready to propose a swim line with your unique style preferences that will form the most desired swimsuit for you!

On the illustrations shown above, what are your preferences for the following:

  • Top portion, what do you prefer: halter, tank top, one shoulder?
  • Bottoms portion, do you prefer: high, medium or low waist? Skirt style, shorts, or bikini style (full or medium coverage at the back)?
  • Would magnetic buttons or magnetic strips be more accessible?
  • What is your preferred sizing (XS – XL, 2- 18)?
  •  Do you like solid prints, patterns, or both?
  • What would enhance the proposed design to include all women?
  • Would the clips be more convenient on the back, front or side? (specific to Corset-style Tankini Design #2)
  • What are you willing to pay for swimwear is both functional and appealing?

Your opinions are valuable and very much needed! Being considered early adopters, you will essentially be providing invaluable advice to complete and solidify styles. We want to capture the needs of all women! Your support and preferences will make Advanced Freedom a reality! Everyone needs to feel sexy and free, without the challenges medical problems may pose. This line will be solely created, developed, and manufactured in Canada.

These are the lovely pareos that we give away for our backers.  once we reach our goal, emails will be sent for colour and size desired.
