What is Lottozero?
Lottozero is the new center for textile research and networking in Prato, Italy
Who is Lottozero?
We are Tessa (economist) and Arianna (textile designer and artist), you can see our faces in the video above or in this pic below!
Why is Lottozero necessary?
The idea behind lottozero, is that there aren't very many places for young textile professionals and artists to get together and work. Due in part to the established textile industry, there are few opportunities for young designers or artist unless they are backed by larger companies or institutions.
At the same time, a lot of young textile designers and artists don't really have the opportunity to see what goes behind the computer generated pattern and how their creations / or their material actually gets produced. let's say we noticed a lot of reciprocal interest on both sides, old school textile producers looking and textile design and art in a suspicious but interested way and youngsters just incredibly curious about the entire production process.
Sounds nice, but what exactly will be going on there?
A lot, and that's why it' complicated to explain; let's break it down in the same way we've organized our headquarters. Lottozero is:
Design Office: we design textiles on our own, we help companies and textile designers get in touch with one another, we search for the best new styles and trends. We also help with the practical production of many designs by up and coming textile and fashion designers.
Textile Laboratories: someone described us as a Fab Lab for textile design, and we love it! Knitting, Silkscreen printing, felting, weaving, dying, sewing, laser cutting....you name it! Our labs will be open to anyone that will want to use them.
Kunsthalle: we will be inviting people from all over the world to our residency project in Prato, we are open to propositions and at the end of the stay we will definitely be having an exhibition in our Kunsthalle.
Shared Studios: the Lottozero headquarter is quite big, overall about 400 sqm, it's a beautiful space and it's getting better as we speak... we would love to share it with other artists, designers, creatives and whoever would like to work there.
What has Lottozero done so far?
We have been working for the last year to create a network of professionals in the textile industry, to encourage the development of emerging talents in textile design and art, to promote that talent through collaborations and connections and, to revitalize one of the leading textile areas in Europe, Prato.
Right now we are refurbishing our headquarters in the heart of Macrolottozero, in Prato and we're creating an exhibition area, open studio spaces, but more importantly an open textile laboratory that can be used for experimentation, research and small production.
What will my money get me?
One way we will promote emerging talent is to periodically create collections in collaboration with people that we get to know and love! We are beyond excited to be presenting our very first collaborative collection Right here on Kickstarter! They are all exclusive designs from up and coming italian and international designers and artists, on highest quality silk and silk/modal scarves, made in Italy, obviously
What will my money get you?
Your pledges will help us fund the textile lab and its expenses and specifically will help us buy the necessary machines to get us started!! In particular, we are looking to buy, the silkscreen equipment, the laser-cutter, a hand-weaving loom, a knitting and a sewing machine.
Who will benefit from your project?
This laboratory will be open to anyone in the field of textile art and design that intends to use it, and people from further away will have the possibility to live in apartments above our headquarter through our residency program. The objective is to accomodate people from all over the world, to give them the opportunity to develop their projects and to create global ambassadors for the textile district of Prato.

Risks and challenges
As with any refurbishing projects, our biggest risk is the opening date. Our goal is May 2016, but delays are not uncommon in construction.
We will keep all of our supporters informed should there be any delays. All rewards that are not connected to the use of the space will have no delay whatsoever!
Also, while 10.000 Euros will definitely get us the basic machinery we need, we also have a stretch goal set at 15.000 Euros, that would add some very cool and useful stuff to the mix!
