About

If you've worked in an office, or dealt with a government department, you can probably relate to the theme of this tabletop game.

Project Management is a cynically satirical game of office politics and government inefficiencies. So have a laugh about your crappy office (instead of a cry), your boss won't even know.

Gameplay

You and up to 5 friends (or disgruntled coworkers) get to play the "prestigious" role of Project Manager for the Department of Non-Delivery.

While there is a board, primarily this game is played with cards, much like a duelling game - employee and contractor cards will be placed on the table in front of you, which form your "team".

Each week (turn), your team will have an impact on your progress, your goal is to get your project from 0 to 100% completed, and all players progress is tracked by their position on the game board (this is the only purpose of the game board).

Not all of your team members will actually move you forward, there are many who negatively impact your progress and will hurtle you backwards every week, not to worry though, just get them transferred to another players team or keep them busy with endless meetings.

Keep an eye on your opponents and your own teams attributes, many of the employee and contractor cards have unique quirks written on them that affect the game. Some staff will cause disruptions within your team, others can be useful for distracting your opponents.

Action and Event cards have a massive impact on the game and allow you to assert influence over the other players, because getting ahead isn't always achieved by going forward, often it's achieved by sending others backward!

In fact, lets be realistic here, your project isn't going to get completed, we all know it, but that's okay as long as everyone else fails even harder.

Everyone starts with a set amount of budget ("Tax Payer Dollars"), once any player runs out of budget (or, god forbid, someone actually completes their project) the game is over, and the player whose project is the furthest along is the winner.

The game can also end prematurely on a whim of the executives - who can simply decide to cancel your projects. This is represented by two cards in the deck - that when revealed, end the game instantly.

I should also mention, that this game is not fair.. from the very beginning, some players will be given an advantage over others, which, of course, is nothing like a real government office 😉

How to Play

If you want to see how the game plays out, here's the quick and dirty! (in the form of an uncanny 3D rendering!)

 * all cards depicted are subject to minor alterations (ya'know, the usual)

Stretch Goals

 $50,000

  • Alternative game modes included in the rules booklet (keep it spicy, even once you're all veteran non-deliverers)

$100,000

  • Online Card Editor (create and download your own print-ready cards!)
  • Digital artwork for custom card sleeves (get a set of these printed to protect your deck and to make your custom cards indistinguishable from the official cards!)

$225,000

  • The "I.T Department" expansion pack, included in every box. This will be an extra deck of cards that themes the game for I.T specific nonsense like daily scrums, kanban boards, resident experts, and having to rewrite the whole solution because management went on a seminar!

Risks and challenges

Just like stepping onto public transport to start your daily commute, there are risks involved!

But, I have handled these risks as best I can. From my perspective, this game is going to print, one way or another, let me explain...

This game is almost finished, I am funding the development costs myself and I intend to see it through to completion. It has already been play tested, and a manufacturer lined up.

Biggest remaining piece of work is artwork for all of the cards, and since this is outsourced, the biggest delay I can foresee is my artists becoming unavailable or falling behind for some reason. I of course have done my best to reduce this risk by hiring multiple artists. Rest assured that if anything like this happens, it will merely be a delay, the game will still be completed.

So then why do the kickstarter if I have it sorted? Well that's easy, I want to get this out to as many people as I can so that many can enjoy this game, and I simply can't afford to manufacture a large batch from my own wallet.

One final risk, is shipping, as this will be coming directly from the manufacturer I won't be able to personally oversee it - however, they have a lot of industry experience and great support staff. Any shipping issues that do arise I am happy to personally handle, I want this game to reach your grabby hands!

Along with the retail copy, additionally receive a unique copy of the game that was used during playtesting and development phases. Be aware that this will be of greatly inferior quality to the retail copy (rough, used, unfinished, test prints, older artwork, typos, etc).
