Keep an eye on www.countermagnets.com for availability after the Kickstarter (probably early 2016)!
The clips are 3D-Printed from plastic using a filament deposition 3D printer. Once printed, the clips have the magnets inserted in opposing orientations (so they can be flipped easily).
Counter Magnets are offered unassembled and assembled. Unassembled sets come with an assembly tool and require the backer to insert the magnets themselves (see Update #1). Assembled sets will come with the magnets already inserted.
I am offering them in 'Sets' to better manage the variety of sizes. One Set will accommodate at least 1/2 of an 8.5"x11" counter sheet worth of counters. Here are the numbers:
The 12mm Counter Magnets will hold most 1/2" counters, but will be quite tight on the upper end. Different sizes can be stacked together easily and several colors are available to further distinguish sides.
There are a variety of colors available for the Counter Magnets and accessories. You can select one color per set of Counter Magnets and choose how many of each color (in multiples of 5). For example, if you get 4 sets of 1/2" counters, you can get 400 Black, 100 white, 50 red and 50 green. You can choose 1 color for each set of Accessories. The basic options are:
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Dark Green, Blue, Dark Blue, Purple, Brown, Black, Grey, White.
I will also offer Clear (more translucent than transparent), Olive Drab, Khaki, Light Grey and Dark Grey. Photos of the colors will probably be added after the campaign is over.
The Accessories and Add-Ons
I have developed a variety of gaming accessories to complement the Counter Magnets and show the types of things I would like to continue designing in the future.
These Accessory Packs can be added on to most pledges for $5 each. If you are interested in only these, select the "Supporter" pledge level and add the ones you want. Multiples of each are allowed.
Counter Sleds and Magnetic Counter Sleds
Available in all the same colors as the Counter Magnets. Counter Sleds add Fog of War, or just make stacks easier to handle on the table. Magnetic Counter Sleds are an alternative to Counter Magnets, but are not suitable for tabletop play due to strong attraction between them. Set numbers are given in the chart below:
These are for stabilizing monster stacks of up to 25 Counter Magnets. As you can see above, 10 is about the max stack without the support. One set includes 6 Stack Supports.
These will hold 10-20 1/2" counters loosely. With a pair of tweezers or small fingers, you can easily remove any given counter.
Mark your offensives and targets with a variety of markers. Each pack includes two sets of 10 markers. Choose two marker designs or two colors! Design names are (from left to right) Arrow, Target, Explosion, Pointer. Tile Spacer marker can now be selected!
These hold one card each, sleeved or unsleeved. Comes in a set of 10.
Hex/Round Counter Magnets
These hold round and hexagonal counters from such games as Here I Stand and Napoleonic Wars (17.5mm side to side/diameter). If you have a different size you are interested in, let me know and I may be able to add it. Comes as an unassembled set of 15 or an assembled set of 8.
An Extra Color of Counter Magnets
If you just need a few Counter Magnets in a different color, you can add this to get more Counter Magnets in a color of your choice. Comes unassembled. Included are 15x 1/2"-9/16" or 10x 5/8"-3/4" or 5x Other Size Counter Magnets.
The 3D files needed to print any of the offered Counter Magnet sizes yourself! You can select the Counter Sled files or the Accessory files instead, or get all three sets!
(See Update #8)
Now your Counter Magnets can be a different color on each side. $5 per set you wish to do this to.
(See update #10)
A set of 6 strong dime-sized magnets with an easy-to grab handle.
Hex Counter Clipping Jig
You clip your square counters, but can't do the hex ones? Try this out. This is an exception to the $5 cost of accessory packs and is $1 per jig. Please indicate the size of the hexes you want to clip.
Kickstarter will allow me to get stronger magnets in bulk, reducing the price and increasing the quality of the clips to the prices reflected in the rewards. The 3D printer is also a large expense and will dictate the speed and quality with which I can manufacture the clips.
Risks and challenges
Schedule is the biggest risk factor. I have a local source of filament and additional printers but the magnets come from China. The magnets can be shipped express due to the small size, but the manufacture of them can take longer. In addition, orders of assembled clips will have to be assembled by hand, so the number that are requested will play a big role in how quickly orders can be fulfilled.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
