On Wednesday, July 13th, I completed my manuscript and sent it off to my editor, Lisa Dorn, in all of its 426 page, 78,425 word glory. This was exactly one year after my "I feel like a scribble" update. It has been one challenging trip around the Sun.
Here's the Facebook Live video I made, very relieved and a bit slap happy from the intensity of the last push.
Where things stand now:
1. I work with Lisa on edits and refining text while I work to complete the last 150 drawings and images still needed. The Idea Shapers is chock full of images. Six hundred, in fact!
2. Next week, I welcome six people to Chicago for my three-day immersion in visual thinking, The Lab. My focus will be in working and playing with these lab partners.
3. The end of next week, I head to Washington DC for the annual conference for the International Forum of Visual Practitioners (IFVP). I'll be giving a short keynote there. I had hoped to hand deliver the book to backers attending the conference. Sadly, the book is not ready yet.
When I return in August, I'll update you with how close I am to delivering your copies of The Idea Shapers and all your goodies. For now, I'm squeezing in drawing and photo shoots between these events. I'm thankful for the events as breaks away from the text, helping give me last iterations to look at the final drafts of the book with fresh eyes.
A few folks have asked - Yes, I will ask you to update your addresses when we are closer to delivery. No worries. ANY other questions, please send them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a comment below.
I know you've waited a long time for the book - and it has grown in scope since I ran the campaign here. I can tell you it is teeming with stories, examples, drawings on how you can make drawing your best thinking tool. I am so looking forward to delivering it to you and hearing what you think.
Thanks so much for your patience and support,
