We are the company dedicated to developing the most innovative personal productivity devices. Working remotely can sometimes be more trouble than it is worth. Trying to keep in touch with the office can be even more stressful when you are home and trying to maintain a healthy work/life balance. This is why we created Lookin' Busy...
Lookin' Busy is a small box which supports your optical mouse, simulating motion every few minutes. This way, it'll look as though you're busy - even if you step away from your computer. No more running back and forth to your computer just to jiggle the mouse and keep your session alive and your presence indicator green.
Lookin' Busy is useful inside the office as well. It is a great way to keep remote desktop sessions open during lengthy operations that require frequent monitoring, or call-center operations, without session timeout.
While we might be tongue-in-cheek about the name and description of the device - we are quite serious about the engineering detail that went into the product!
The Lookin' Busy device was envisioned on a day when one of our engineers was at home recovering from a migraine. He was expecting a call from someone important at the office. When that important person sent him an instant message over the corporate network, to see if our engineer was ready to speak, the computer timed out and said our engineer was 'offline'. Something was needed to move the mouse and keep the session alive, to prove our engineer was available.
Hence, Lookin' Busy was born.
An Important Note
The Lookin' Busy Mouse Mover does not require any system drivers or any software to function. The computer will not be able to tell the difference between the device moving the mouse- or a human moving the mouse.
Lookin' Busy does not even have to be attached to your computer. It can be powered from a separate USB wall power supply or USB charging stick.
The basic design of the Mouse Mover came together quickly. The earliest versions, whose parts have since been cannibalized to construct subsequent prototypes, proved that the basic concept of the design was sound.
The first prototype, which appears on the right, proved too cumbersome to construct. A later iteration of the device, which appears on the left, has remained largely unchanged during the final development stages.
Utilizing small batch 'manufacturing' we have been able to construct our devices for distribution to our test users.
Each pre-production unit was marked with the revision of firmware that was executing the mouse simulation functions. The current firmware has not changed in the last fourteen months, proving our confidence in the reliability of the system.
The device size was selected to support the various sizes of optical mouses that are available.
Smaller mouses (especially very light travel mouses) may have a tendency to move around on the device. We include two self adhesive 'mouse stabilizers' which can be placed on the device to make sure the mouse does not move.
TIP: Attach a spare mouse to your computer and place it on the Lookin' Busy Mouse Mover at all times. Use your regular mouse (or touchpad) as normal- and you never have to worry about walking away from your computer and having your session time-out.
A burn-in test has been running continuously for the past fourteen months and in that time, the product has performed without issue. It is not expected that someone would run the device continuously, but if you are ever in a situation to have to be available for 14 months, Lookin' Busy has you covered.
Color Your World
To spice up your desk and enhance your productivity even more (if that's even possible at this point) we offer the following color pad options for your Lookin' Busy reward!
We are looking forward to the funding of this product. With this success, we will have the means to complete additional personal productivity devices.

Risks and challenges
We anticipate few, if any, risks associated with the Lookin' Busy product. The device being offered was developed over a year ago and has been operational for the past 14 months to test reliability. The test units functioned flawlessly during this period.
The manufacturing is being done in-house, in our own facility - so we will not by relying upon off-shore assembly or shipping delays. So consider this an "Assembled in the U.S.A". product! The components, including the enclosure are all off-the-shelf components. The design is simple and reliable. We have identified multiple part suppliers from which we will source all necessary components. This supply chain has, at a minimum, 10X the inventory on hand, than is required to successfully fund this project. The lead time for the manufacturer to provide additional enclosures, processor boards, etc. range from 4 to 6 weeks.
The funds will be used to provide the necessary FCC/UL, etc. licensing and certification as well as an inventory of components and the necessary tooling. We have visited the facility that will perform the testing. There is approximately a 2-3 week lead time to get time in their testing lab. We require FCC Class B certification- radiated and conductive emissions.
We have factored into our funding goal multiple rounds of emission testing and will work with an RF engineer in the event there continues to be a problem with certification.
If there is strong demand for the product, we will pursue certification of models using additional supplier components. Rewards will be shipped in the order in which they are received. In the event of overwhelming funding, the construction and shipping of rewards may take a little longer. As a stretch goal, if we receive strong interest in Europe, we will consider CE certification for the EU market. CE certification is approximately 3X the cost of FCC certification.
Finally, we stand by our product. If you ever have a problem with your Lookin' Busy device, simply send it back and we will fix or replace the unit for the cost of shipping.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
