The Black Riage unlocked, bid covers, and a way to create your own characters
Hey folks! We hope you had a fantastic holiday! We're back with some exciting new developments that we hope you guys will love as much as we do.
We unlocked the Black Riage this weekend. Here's a sketch of a piece from the Black Riage that we're working on. It's called "Hidden Naresh."
Deep in the Black Riage, tucked away as if by accident, like a cheap ring fallen from a finger into the depths of a pocket, rests Hidden Naresh. With around 1,000 inhabitants, Hidden Naresh is a toadstool of a city, growing in the dark, sucking the nutrients from the world around it, poisoning the air and the minds of its inhabitants with every passing moment of its existence. Here the light is low, and the morale more so. Yet in order to pass through the mountains on this route, you must also pass through the morass that is Hidden Naresh. This is how Hidden Naresh eats you alive: enter from the west, the land of the Steadfast, where most is clean and kind and light, where there is rule and law that can be grasped by even the simplest of minds. Leave behind the light, the law, the living. Enter the world of the dark, the destroyed, the dead.
A bunch of people have told us they want some way to hide their bids. We considered a number of options. Dummy cards are really fiddly in this game, for example. We've seen many players discard them and then forget to put them back in their hands, leading to requests for do-overs that really bollix up the game. So we've settled on bid cover cards. These will allow you to shield your bids underneath a card so no one can see whether you've got any cards under there.
Best of all, we're not making this a stretch goal. We're just including them because some of you feel you need something to make the hidden information in the game stay hidden. Hope that helps.
Online character generator from DriveThru Cards
We're fortunate to have a great partnership with DriveThru Cards. As you may know, they make our Pathfinder Adventure Card Game Card Creator, and they're also signed up to make a card creator for some types of cards for the Apocrypha Adventure Card Game. We're excited to announce that we're continuing that partnership with The Ninth World as well.
DriveThru will be making modified types of character cards for this game. One will be a place for you to upload a name and a character portrait, while the other will allow you to put in your adjective, noun, and verb phrase with all the appropriate powers you want to add. You can either just make the power side and match it with our character portraits, or include your own portrait and put it next to a power card.
That means that you can adapt your own characters from the Numenera RPG. We'll include a handy guide (not yet written) of how to do that on the card creator site. You'll be able to adapt your descriptor, type, and focus to make a character that's uniquely yours.
We're going to add this in if we reach $65,000 and get to the powers deck. That way, you'll have two great ways to modify and create characters.
We hope you like these exciting developments. And oh, based on your requests, we came up with a cooperative mode concept that seems really fun, though we haven't developed it or tested it yet. We'll let you know more about that when it's ready.
Thanks for supporting The Ninth World!
