Update #13: An Essay on Design, #FragmentFriday, the Retailer Crate, and Doctor Zeez's Symbologies

Posted by Lone Shark Games (Creator)

We're very excited to have topped $200,000 and unlocked the cross-chapter rule set. We're now looking to unlock that set of 9 multicolor fragment promo cards, which will be sent for free to all backers who get a box of the game during this campaign. These cards will not be available for free after the campaign, so if you want those, we encourage you to tell your friends about Apocrypha.

I also wrote an essay on my Tumblr about how the central mechanic about memory fragments was developed. It's quite a long piece about scary things, and I'd love to hear any comments you have about it.

I was delighted to be on Mad Men actor Rich Sommer's CARDBOARD! podcast, where The Big Bang Theory's Kevin Sussman comes on and I (for once) am the third-dorkiest gamer in the room. I talk about the origins of Betrayal at House on the Hill and what Apocrypha learned from it. It's a pretty fun time.

Other great appearances this week: I was on Tabletop Torch's Startup Gamers podcast, Mike Adams's About Money broadcast on Wall Street Radio, and Steve Peters' ARG-focused Story Forward podcast. Those are all really different and fun listening. Also, special thanks to Super Nerd Factory and Monkeys With Fire for the nice mentions.

From the beginning of the campaign, we've had people asking whether they could contribute memory fragments to the printed version of the game. As we're approaching the final weekend of our campaign, we want to have a little bit of fun, and maybe see what's in your demented little brains.

So we've decided this upcoming Friday is #FragmentFriday. Join us on Twitter from 9 AM Eastern to 9 pm Eastern this Friday, May 8th, and share your own versions of fragments. A fragment should have a title beginning with "THE," a 50 to 70 word memory, and your name in the rules box.

We'll be keeping an eye on the fragments coming in, and may pick a couple to use in the Apocrypha ACG. But don't tweet them yet. You can start coming up with your fragments now, putting them on this PDF card template and saving as a jpeg if you like (or just tweeting them in the body of a tweet or two if you prefer), and getting ready to use the hashtag #FragmentFriday on Friday morning. We look forward to seeing inside your memories.

The Retailer Crate

We have had a lot of retailers message us about a retailer level. So we've put one up. If (and only if) you are a qualified retailer or distributor, you can select the $777 level. This will get you the Retailer Crate: ten copies of the Revelation Box with all the chapters, ten copies of the 9 multicolor fragment promo cards, and a retail demo kit with a demo game, posters, and other materials. Plus we'll mention your store on our social media and website as a supporter of the game.

Shipping is free for the Retailer Crate in the US, Canada, and EU. It's $75 shipping in the rest of the world.

The retail channel has been great to us at Lone Shark, and we very much support retailers as we're launching this new endeavor. Thanks, retailers!

Doctor Zeez's Journal, Entry #8

Doctor Zeez finally made contact with the polypagus. Now he's of a mind to trap the creature. Let's see what happens.

If you find the body part Doctor Zeez is looking for, send it in an email to (whatever your answer is) (without spaces). You will be rewarded by auto-reply with the Badge of the Serpents if you do, and you can turn it into your icon on Twitter, Facebook, Kickstarter, or anywhere else. Please do!

And thanks for supporting the Apocrypha Adventure Card Game!

Okay, I tweeted one. Couldn't get the template to work on my iPad, but Hanx Writer was fun and effective!...

Here is a fragment template. You can download it, type your fragment into it, screencap it or export as a jpeg in Acrobat, and post it to #FragmentFriday.

A lovely puzzle, and it didn't leave me stumped forever like the previous one. Thanks for the update!

As quickly as I managed to solve that puzzle, it was a fantastically put together one. :D
