Update #1: News on Funding and Shipping, a Characters Video, the Deathless, Mr. Cordell, and Doctor Zeez's Diagnosis

Thanks to all our backers for getting us to our goal in less than 24 hours! We have a long way to go on the campaign, but the key is that we are definitely making the Apocrypha Adventure Card Game. This is a vision we had almost four years ago, and we're thrilled that you've helped us make it a (moderately fractured) reality. Thanks also to Johnathan H. Liu of Geekdad for the "minute zero" coverage, and Kickstarter for making us a staff pick. You guys rule.

We have some news which we are not ready to implement, but we are certain will happen. We have found ways we can lower the cost of shipping a game to the European Union to $25, and it will be EU-Friendly. We are working very hard on getting answers for Australia and perhaps elsewhere, but we don't know what those answers will be. So we're holding off on implementing the shipping change until we know. Regardless, EU customers will pay only $25 shipping for any edition of Apocrypha.

And now another gameplay video! This one's about characters.

Stretch goal: The Book of the Deathless

The first chapter, The Book of the Skinwalkers, has been unlocked, and is included in the Revelation Box. It's about facing the legions of the werewolf lord Keiros. He has been on walkabout for generations, and his shapechangers have balkanized into street gangs defending minuscule turfs against each other. When the 80th Street Griffons clash with the Bronx Jackals, smart people know to get out of the way of the silver hollowpoints. Now back from his baleful journeys, Keiros seeks to unite his forces again, but it is unlikely that would be a boon for mankind.

Now we aim to unlock the second chapter, The Book of the Deathless. This is the undead expansion, where the Novem Ereshkigal seeks to expand her army of flesheaters, spooks, and decidedly unsparkly vampires. When other Novem claimed the trees and animals and men for their dominions, Ereshkigal was left with nothing. So she took everything that the others had, once the life-force had drained from their fragile forms. The Deathless are not patient, though. The unliving have been given a second lease on life, but most squander it in violence or retreat. To contribute to the breaking of the Paradigm, the Deathless are going to have to get creative, and that is not their forte. But what they lack in creativity, they will make up in sheer numbers. Numbers which might eventually include you.

Here's one of the Deathless. We call him Billy. (illustration by Shane Tyree.)

We will unlock this chapter from my brain at $99,000.

Our next memory author: Bruce Cordell

I will unlock this chapter from my brain with valued assistance from one of our brilliant memory authors, Bruce Cordell. Bruce and I had a joyous time working on the many haunts from Betrayal at House on the Hill and the D&D translations of Diablo together. He defined psionics for D&D, letting everyone play inside his brain. It is quite the entertaining place to be, because he's so nice that you don't expect all the really horrible shapes that slink around in there. You may have encountered his writing on the new roleplaying game The Strange from Monte Cook Games. He is a novelist as well, writing ten novels for the Forgotten Realms line for Wizards of the Coast. Bruce makes things horror writers are scared of. And we're thrilled to have him on Apocrypha.

Here's a memory fragment he's postulating (wording not at all final).

THE GARDEN PARTY: The Johnsons didn’t used to have garden gnomes with such large red caps and toothy grins. Or previously pose the creepy little things at night. Each morning saw the gnomes arranged differently, whether perched on a branch, glaring through a window, or like today, encircling the unmoving form of Mrs. Johnson lying in the yard.

Thanks for the memory, Bruce.

Doctor Zeez's Journal, Entry 1

We mentioned that our dear Doctor Zeez keeps a journal. Here is an entry from it.

Interesting. Doctor Zeez is a fairly cryptic gentleman. He might have something—a "part," perhaps—that he is trying to reveal in his journal. If you find that part, send it in an email to (whatever your answer is)@lonesharkgames.com (without spaces). You will be rewarded by auto-reply with the Badge of the Skinwalkers if you do, and you can turn it into your icon on Twitter, Facebook, Kickstarter, or anywhere else. Please do!

That is quite a lot to put in one update. More information is on the way! Thanks for supporting the Apocrypha Adventure Card Game!

I just got this one too! This one was way harder for me than the second one.

After the Kickstarter completes, we will reveal all the answers.

Are you going to reveal the answers in later updates or after the KS completes? It is driving me mad that I don't see the solution.

Kikizosan: OK, we will attempt to figure out what's up with that nonsense.

I got the 404 too, haven't received an email with the image after, and also haven't gone back to the dropbox. Will try again later. :)

@Robin: Manage pledge and pick the new EU option, but just type in $124 (assuming you're at the $99 pledge level) and it'll work. It's a bug with the KS pledge management script.

      Weird. That should not happen.

    8. Scott Forster on

@LoneShark: I originally got an email with a dropbox link, which game me a 404: not found error. About 15 minutes later, I got an email with the image attached.

Also, we lowered this stretch goal to $90,000. We want to unlock that sooner.

We just added new pledge levels for Canada and EU for all the products at $25 shipping. If you're in the EU, you can change it by clicking Manage Your Pledge and clicking the new level right below the one you're at. (Ignore the one that's "All Gone," as it has a pricing typo in it and we'll be eliminating that level after our backers migrate out of it.)

@robin my thoughts exactly would like an answer to this, although make a play matt as an add on and my problem goes away

Great news about EU shipping, but this leads to a dilemma, having already pledged within 24 hours, The shipping still registered as $45. Even if you change it, this won't change, unless we cancel our pledge, and pledge again.... but if we do that, then we fall outside the backing within 24 hours...
So is it ok to simply reduce the pledge by $20 so that this issue can be worked around?
Thanks, and good luck with the rest of the project.

Having half of his body facing the wrong direction is not a notable deformity of a polypagus. All polypagi are like that. Says Doctor Zeez, anyway.

    14. Tyler Tinsley on

Oh yeah it does. But why is not mentioned in the notable deformities page? That's all I read at first. The hand writing font on the text page was enough of a barrier to prevent me from reading it all the way.

    15. Jonathan H. Liu

@Tyler - It totally mentions that, in the definition of the polypagus. You must have been reading the Cliff Notes version of the journal. :)

"illiberal arts" sounds like a conservative BDSM club.

      It's in illiberal arts.

doctor Zeez did not mention that guy has half of his body facing the wrong direction. Where did he get is doctorate I wonder? Is it in liberal arts?
