Andy, an unambitious but talented young writer stuck in Austin, Texas, Slackerdom USA, is looking to get away, to strike out on his own and see what else his life and this great country has to offer him. Especially after his sign language interpreter girlfriend leaves him for a hotshot Deaf guy. "On to everything I'm ever gonna do and everyone I'm ever gonna meet." Sounds romantic, but with a broken down RV and a debt to his landlord older brother Ben, the Gordon Gecko of Craigslist wheeling and dealing, hitting the road seems impossible. Until, that is, he hears of a way to make some long money fast at a pharmaceutical testing facility as a human lab rat. And so Andy takes the only opportunity he sees he has and checks in, submitting himself to a week and a half in a research facility, taking experimental meds and having his blood constantly taken from him. There, amongst even more lovable losers, he finds Misty, a vibrant and mysterious human being with whom he actually has a true connection. However, both he and Misty's pasts and personal fears threaten to wreck a good thing before it even begins. If Andy can survive the testing and maintain a cool head despite his intense feelings for Misty, he may have just found the co-pilot on the road of life he's been looking for all along.

HERE WE ARE is the debut feature film of NYU film grad, writer/director David Bellarosa. It is inspired by his time living in Austin, Texas alongside other young, creative types trying not to slip through the cracks, as they struggle to hold onto their piece of a debased American Dream that seems to have little use for them or their aspirations in the first place.

It also deals with what the writer calls "the epic poverty of ambivalence" amongst "Generation Why?" Americans.

And it takes place largely here,

his old house and RV in Austin, Texas

and a place like here,

a medical research facility that we're creating in this vacant factory nearby:

and here,

HERE WE ARE is set against the vibrant and uniquely absurd backdrop of Austin, Texas. Long an enclave for strays of all kinds, Austin lends its unique character to our story, providing the perfect setting for this tale of youthful malaise, frustrated ambition and idealized romantic love.

Austin is also home to the Texas School for the Deaf and a large and vibrant Deaf community. With HERE WE ARE we will be working with talented local Deaf actors and aim to show a side of the Deaf community that is underrepresented, a way that features multi-dimensional characters while showcasing their individual talents and expression.

HERE WE ARE is very excited to announce that ANDY, our hero, our main man, our Holden Caulfield, our Sal Paradise, our Andy, the face of a generation, has been cast!

Ladies and gentemen.......................ALEX DOBRENKO is ANDY in HERE WE ARE !!

Alex Dobrenko is an actor and improviser living in Los Angeles, CA. He recently starred in the SXSW 2015 stellar film KRISHA and in the comedy-mystery Arlo and Julie which premiered at SXSW 2014 to rave reviews from Variety, BadAss Digest, Austin Chronicle and others. Wired Magazine called Alex one of the "15 Most Fascinating Filmmakers and Stars at SXSW." You can catch him next in Icon starring Ben Foster, Lee Pace and Dustin Hoffman (Alex played Dustin Hoffman's son - a personal dream come true), the indie romantic comedy Quaker Oaths, and the horror comedy, The Lumberjack Man starring Michael Madsen. You can also catch Alex at improv theaters across Los Angeles, CA. He is currently taking classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade. Writer/Director

David Bellarosa grew up in northern New Jersey where his mother would take him to plays in New York City all the time. And he had an English teacher in high school who thought something was good in him, so she got him onto the writing of the Beat Generation and put him in creative writing classes. He kept writing. He went to the University of New Hampshire where he was an English major and received a minor in Psychology. He kept writing. He had a radio show very late at night as "The Lonely Giant" and worked at the schools TV station where he learned how to shoot video and edit it. He kept writing. He made a film, Seven Days Drowned, and it won first place in the school's SCANTV film festival. He then applied to film schools, sending the film along with a one-act absurdist play he had written. He was accepted to NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and decided he would go.

He then spent years living in Greenwich Village, writing, learning about cinema, working on many films in various capacities and figuring out who he was and wanted to be.

There, in 2006, he founded LONELY GIANT, an independent film production company with which he has designed and built sets, made short films, music videos, promotional materials for bands and companies, and, now, finally, feature films like HERE WE ARE.

David left New York for America over five years ago and has lived, written, and worked all over the country.

He's lucky to have made so many real friends along the way.

And he's lucky to have found so much inspiration.

David has since made a true home of Austin, Texas and is incredibly excited to be finally making his first feature film there. He's very proud that film is going to be HERE WE ARE and can't wait to share it with you and the rest of the world.

Will Rimmer - Producer

Will Rimmer graduated from Texas State in 2008 with a BA in English. He has had the privilege of working with such directors as The Coen Brothers, Richard Linklater, David Gordon Green, Robert Rodriguez, Micheal Bay, Jason Reitman and Andrew Bujalski. In 2014 he became eligible to join the Directors Guild of America after working on over 20 films. He most recently helped produce and direct Andrew Bujalski's movie "Results" which premiered at Sundance in 2015 and was acquired by Magnolia Pictures for theatrical distribution.

Beau Harris - Producer

Beau Harris was born and raised in the Houston area where he pursued a degree in Theatre (while also working in a video store) before moving to Austin, Texas nine years ago. He has worked in virtually every department behind the camera but is mostly geared towards producing, of which he has four features and a dozen shorts under his belt. He has also worked on several projects alongside Writer/Director David Bellarosa over the last few years and couldn't be more excited to be a part of his first feature film.

Ben Oliver - Producer

Ben Oliver has been a filmmaker working in Texas since 2007. He's worked in many capacities on all kinds of films, large and small, in both Texas and New York. His credits include Revolution, Parkland, Killer Women, Dark Knight Rises, Machete Kills, as well as multiple network shows and indie films. He has a growing lighting, grip and camera support business, Aduro Film. He's very excited about HERE WE ARE and loves working with David in life any chance he gets.

T.J. Larson - Co-Producer / Script Supervisor

T.J. Larson was born and raised in Hawaii where his lifelong love of film started at the tender age of 6. After years of teaching himself and going to film school in DC, he came to UT-Austin for the graduate screenwriting fellowship program in 2009 and has lived and worked in the Austin film industry ever since. T.J. has worked a number of roles on set and in post and has had the privilege of working with Terrence Malick, Richard Linklater, Robert Rodriguez, Oliver Stone, and Jeff Nichols, among others. He works primarily as a script supervisor and after meeting David on the set of Bryan Poyser's Love & Air Sex three years ago, they became fast friends and, soon thereafter, collaborators working to bring HERE WE ARE to life.

 Wilson Smith - Co-Producer / Film Critic

Wilson Smith has been living and working in Austin, Texas since graduating from Auburn University in 2011 with a B.A. in Radio/Television/Film Communications. Wilson has been lucky enough to work on such varied projects as Knight of Cups, Mud, and Transformers:Age of Extinction, as well as ABC's American Crime. In addition, Wilson writes extenstive film criticism at Cinapse.co. His last project as a producer - Krisha by Trey Edward Shults - was recently announced as part of the Narrative Feature competition lineup during the 2015 South By Southwest Film Festival.

Jacob Miguel - Co-Producer / 2nd 2nd Assistant Director

Producer/AD Jacob Miguel Started his career in Chicago after graduating Northern Ill University with a bachelors in "new media art". He has worked his way quickly up the ladder in the production world on feature films and scripted/reality television shows as a PA/Coordinator/AD/Director/Producer. His work has taken him all over the country and he now resides in Austin Texas. Although Jacob's work with Lonely Giant has just begun, he plans to be an integral part of the company in its growth. He feels that the creation / exposure of David's creative films and other projects to come from himself and within the talented array of Lonely Giant's team will be a force to be reckoned with for the near future of the independent film world.

Leyna McCord - Production Coordinator

Austin-based Production Coordinator/Manager, Leyna McCord, has combined her creative and organizational skills to pursue a career in film. With experience in feature films, shorts, and television, she is quickly making her mark as an integral part of production and someone you want on your team.

Stacey Rice - Casting Director

Stacey has worked in the film industry in Texas for six years. She started out wanting to be an actress, but quickly realized her talents and passion were in the casting department. In college Stacey took an internship with Emmy award winning Casting Director Beth Sepko and has been working with her ever since. Currently, she works side by side with Mrs. Sepko, who just won an Artios award for the Oscar nominated feature film BOYHOOD by Richard Linklater. Stacey has been honing her skills and is thrilled to be taking on her own project as the Casting Director for HERE WE ARE.

Amanda Hays - American Sign Language Interpreter

Amanda Hays is a certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter and Coda who has been working with Lonely Giant on HERE WE ARE to assist in translating David's direction to the Deaf actors being cast in the film. She has been working as a professional interpreter for over five years, loves what she does and is based in Austin, Texas.

Erik and Joe Duemig - TWIN SOUND

Twin brothers, Erik and Joe Duemig are two of Austin, Texas's best soundsmen. They are profoundly talented, extremely diligent with their craft and very proud to be on board HERE WE ARE.

PRODUCTION DESIGNER - Anthony Lavadera

Anthony holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin, giving him considerable virtuosity in the art of designed spaces, particularly in Texas. In the past, he has helped teach architectural drawing classes, summited some mountains, pilgrimaged to international architectural sites, cooked meals for a dozen people, participated in creating new Wikipedia entries, and, not least, art directed four independent feature films. Originally from the New York/New Jersey area, Anthony has travelled thousands of miles in search of creative opportunities and collaboration. He stops from time to time in his pursuit.

Anyone trying to figure it out, anyone who has ever been hopeless, listless, lost, without money or in dire straits, wanting to make their next move but stuck, fans of good writing, poetry or great literature, people interested in the world of big pharmaceutical testing, and the Deaf and all people associated with Deaf culture and American Sign Language.

So come along for the ride, we promise to be good company!

From Travels With Frenchy

Well alright, but where's the money goin ?

Making a movie isn't cheap or easy but it's our favorite thing to do. All money from this Kickstarter will go to the production of the film HERE WE ARE. It will help pay for locations (the medical research facility!), food and wages for cast and crew, equipment (nice lenses!), set decoration (a medical research facility!) and costumes (we'll need plenty of scrubs and lab coats!), and production insurance. Since I won't be able to do it without the help of a great crew of talented craftsmen and craftswomen willing to work with me for a "love rate" and the generous support of family, friends and complete strangers who believe in me and this film, I want to make sure everyone feels it is all worth while.

And so, how Kickstarter works:

People pledge any amount they want and choose a reward. Rewards are the things we're offering in order to raise funds. You can find all the rewards in the column on the right. You can either pay the exact amount and get the reward you want or you can pay more and we'll consider the rest a donation. At the end of our Kickstarter campaign, if the combined total of all pledges for our project meets our $26,000 goal, then the credit cards of those who pledge are charged and we receive the funds to make our film. If we don't meet our goal, then the money is not withdrawn from your account and no rewards are provided. If we exceed our $26,000 goal we will be awesome. Aside from a 5% Kickstarter fee and a 3-5% Amazon credit card processing fee, all funds raised will be used directly in the production of the film.

Can we exceed the goal? Yes we can and let's hope that we do! This would be HUGE! We need all the help we can get and Kickstarter will allow as much money as is given before the deadline.

Other ways to help: Spread the word! That too is a MAJOR contribution. Tell everyone you know how cool this project is. Share our website, like us on Facebook, hashtag us on Twitter & Instagram with #HEREWEAREusa ; blog it, sandwich board it, or promote it any way you can think of. Everything helps! This is a new, exciting model of making movies, and you can be part of it!  We want to build a community and a powerful audience for this movie and LONELY GIANT and it all starts with you!

IN-KIND DONATIONS

Do you or your company want to donate something that will help with the production of HERE WE ARE? In-kind donations could include meals for cast & crew, a generator, a pool table, gas cards, gift cards, housing for out of town team-members, locations, vehicles, and equipment. Feel free to drop a line anytime to discuss, anything helps!

THANK YOU ONE AND ALL

Sincerely always,

The HERE WE ARE team and LONELY GIANT PRODUCTIONS

Risks and challenges

Making movies is tough. Even with unlimited resources, juggling the challenges of completing a feature film can be a daunting task. We have to work out everything from actors’ schedules to location fees to equipment rentals to production insurance, and that’s all just pre-production. Once we’ve got everything ready to go before the cameras, we have to ensure that we stick to our pre-determined schedule, make our days, and keep everyone on the crew paid and happy. And once it’s all in the can, the fun of post-production begins…editing, coloring, sound designing, mixing, making it deliverable and sending it out to film festivals around the world.

Luckily, the crew of HERE WE ARE is comprised of film professionals with years of work on films ranging from Hollywood blockbusters to tiny independent feature films. Writer/director David Bellarosa, an NYU graduate, has been working in film for over ten years in New York, Los Angeles, and Austin, gaining valuable knowledge and experience on set in various roles in order to one day helm his first feature film. Among the filmmakers that David and his producers have worked with are Richard Linklater, Joel and Ethan Coen, Terrence Malick, Nora Ephron, Oliver Stone, Andrew Bujalski, Jeff Nichols, David Gordon Green, Jason Reitman, Bryan Poyser, Christine Vachon, Catherine Hardwicke and many more.

All of us at Lonely Giant are committed to filmmaking and film culture in all its forms; this is a passion for us as well as the way we make our living, so you can count on our perseverance and dedication to having a finished product that we can all be proud of. What’s more, as a homegrown Austin Texas production, we will draw on our network of production professionals that has been built through years of hard work within the local film industry. With our experience and relationships with local filmmakers and crew members, HERE WE ARE is uniquely poised to benefit from the absolute best that the Austin film community has to offer.
