As the only women’s barbershop chorus in the City of London we want to share our great four-part a cappella harmonies with our debut music album. We would love your help to make it happen.
Read on to check out the project, the rewards, and our great music videos. All these songs, along with some exciting new ones, will be on our album.
A London City Singers taster:
Every Tuesday night London City Singers members wrap up our work days and make our way to a basement room in the heart of London to rehearse. We work hard to be the best we can and we love what we do. We put on regular concerts, we sing at charity events, we perform in private gigs and sometimes we busk, just for the love of singing.
Once a year we get serious and sing in barbershop competitions to benchmark and sharpen our skills. And in April this year we struck gold – we won the International Chorus Competition at the Spanish Association of Barbershop Singers Convention. A perfect result for our 10th anniversary year.
Our winning performance:
Winning gold, however, doesn’t mean we’ve mastered our craft. It just raised the bar - and our ambitions. We have a lot to learn and a lot to do.
So we are making an album to capture our sound – with songs we hope you’ll really enjoy. We’re putting together a great mix of music, including folk, classical, pop and West End/Broadway numbers. Five of the ten tracks have been arranged especially for us by our Musical Director, Simon Arnott.
Here’s the plan: we’re all set to record in November with a pre-release by February 2018 and the entire album ready in March 2018. To make this a reality, we need your help.
The money we raise through Kickstarter will fund the basic album production. Anything we raise beyond our target will pay for licensing, album cover design, CD replication and distribution.
Here’s one of our favourites, from a recent show:
Where will the funded money go?
- Location costs
- Production costs
- Disc duplication
With your generous support we can make this happen together.
Thank you so much.
UPDATE - STRETCH GOALS
We are amazed by all the support we have received so far. It's just been a week and we have reached £1000! That's so encouraging! We are incredibly grateful to each one of our backers.
If you haven't backed our project yet, there is still time.
The £1000 you have generously contributed will cover basic production costs of recording, sound engineer, venue and editing. By continuing to pledge, you will help us pay for licensing, design, CD replication and distribution.
So please, do keep sharing our project and don't hesitate to pledge.
It’s only fair that if we ask for more we should offer more, so we're adding a couple of extra special musical rewards to our campaign. If you are in a musical group or fancy learning a new quartet arrangement, this could be for you!
- When we reach £1500, all backers (yes, everyone) will receive a PDF of one of our exclusive arrangements, In the Hall of the Mountain King, as adapted from Grieg by our musical director, Simon Arnott, for London City Singers (SSAA).
- When we reach £2000, all backers will also receive a PDF of an exclusive Kickstarter arrangement, again by Simon Arnott (SSAA & TTBB).
So keep sharing!
Risks and challenges
This is our first experience producing an album so whilst we’ve carefully planned each step and we are calling on our chorus members’ personal experience and contacts, we may still hit unexpected costs along the way.
We’re a non-profit, member-based singing organisation. We rely on our members, family, friends and fans to support us. We really appreciate your support. Thank you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
