About

Buh Bye, M.S. is the story of my mother, Claudia Suzanne's, battle with and ultimate defeat of Multiple Sclerosis. It's not your typical tale of "disease strikes healthy, athletic type out of nowhere but succumbs to diet, exercise, and 21st Century medical science."

No, it's more of a "disease makes already clumsy book type so angry she whacks it with everything she can get her hands on until the maggot crawls away with its ravaged tail between its pathetic, spindly legs" kinda story.

This fight was personal. And prolonged. For decades--decades--it looked like the parasite would win. There were canes and wheelchairs and embarrassing accidents. There were concussions and obstinate organs, trails of blood and suicide-tempting fatigue. And there were doctors--oy! the doctors!--and a host of supplements and smelly herbs and dietary protocols and misdirections and absolutes that were absolutely wrong. There was even an incident that looked like a heart attack and felt like a heart attack but was much more dangerous than a heart attack.

And through it all, there was a weird, rocky love story, the kind people don't make movies about.

But in the end, the clumsy book type won. Completely, totally, and unequivocally. The sclerosis on her spinal column is gone, gone, gone. The multiple inflammations and spasms are no longer. This is one Whack-a-Mole that won't be popping up someplace else ever again.

This is a strange and unusual story written in stream-of-consciousness, and the first book she's ever written for herself. I would like to make this book into a reality, not just for her, but also for the people who helped her through it and for my father, who didn't quite make it long enough to see her fully recover.

We actually think he took the last of her illness with him.
