Shipping & Delivery: What is the estimated shipping date for the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System?
We're planning to start shipping out the lenses with low serial numbers in November 2017. Depending on the reward package you pick, shipping estimates vary from November 2017 to March 2018 so please check the date stated in the text of the reward that you pick. Silver and black lenses will be manufactured simultaneously. Pentax mount lenses are expected to be ready for shipping in January 2018. Please note that all shipping dates stated in the campaign refer to the date that we pass the reward to our delivery partners and is not the time of arrival at your doorstep. Whilst we'll do our best to stay on schedule, the dates stated for each reward package are estimated and not binding.Last updated:
Low serial number rewards ship before other lenses. Please note that we cannot guarantee exact shipping dates for lenses. Since each one of our hubs has a different clearing time for deliveries from China, it’s possible that some backers will receive their lenses before others.Last updated:
We will ask for your shipping information in a survey which is sent out after the campaign for the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System ends. Backers from Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Dominican Republic & Vietnam will additionally have to give their tax/personal ID number for a trouble-free importation processLast updated:
The shipping, handling and tax costs vary depending on where you are in the world and which reward you pick. Please be aware that extra costs are not just for shipping, they are also needed for handling and local charges. When choosing your reward you also select your shipping location, which will then indicate the extra charges that apply.
The Neptune Convertible Art Lens System will be produced in China and shipped to you from one of our hubs around the world. We have hubs in the following locations: Hungary (EU – you will not have any additional importation costs), New York, Hong Kong, and Japan.
If you have a specific question about shipping or tax, please just send us a private message!Last updated:
Shipping & Delivery: Can you value the Neptune System as zero or a lower value when shipping to me? I'd like to avoid high customs costs?
Customs require that the product be valued with a price, so we can’t declare this with zero value or as a gift or donation. Please check the import duty fees with your local customs office as we cannot handle these types of fees.Last updated:
"Yes, delivery times may vary by up to 2-3 weeks by region. Please note that we cannot guarantee exact shipping dates for lenses. Since each one of our hubs has a different clearing time for deliveries from China, it’s possible that some backers will receive their lenses before others.
In order to reduce the import fees we have to charge, we are delivering goods to backers from Turkey through our distributor in Istanbul. Due to this extra step in distribution, backers from Turkey should expect slightly extended estimated dates of delivery.Last updated:
The Neptune Convertible Art Lens System will be available for delivery to most countries around the world. As shipping, handling, and local charges (excluding customs fees) vary from country to country, please choose your reward to see specific details about your location. Lomography cannot be held liable for any additional customs charges that may occur in your location. We have logistic hubs in the following locations: Hong Kong, Japan, New York, and Hungary (this means we can deliver to EU customers without additional customs fees being incurred when you receive your lens). Please be aware that there may be extra import costs to pay upon delivery, depending on your location. In order to reduce the import fees we have to charge, we are delivering goods to backers from Turkey through our distributor in Istanbul. Due to this extra step in distribution, backers from Turkey should expect slightly extended estimated dates of delivery. If you are from Russia or another country that is not listed for shipping then please contact us through a private message and we'll figure out if we can make a shipping arrangement for you.Last updated:
You do not need to raise your shipping fee for any add-ons that you order during the campaign. We'll do our best to ship all items together. In case we have to split your shipments — the extra one is on us!Last updated:
You will only be charged once the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System is successfully funded at the end of the campaign.Last updated:
Payment: What additional sales taxes will there be for backers from the USA and how should I pay them?
Backers who live in the State of New York need to pay sales tax so please add an additional 8.875% onto your pledge to cover the amount. For example, if you live in the State of New York and pledged for the $599 reward, please add an additional $53.16 onto your pledge amount ($53.16 is 8.875% of $599) to cover New York sales tax. Don't worry if you forgot to add this, or didn't know about it — it’s simple to add it even now. You can edit the amount of your pledge right up until the end of the campaign.Last updated:
Payment: My payment was declined but I want to be part of this campaign. Is there any other way I can make my payment?
Normally we can only collect money through Kickstarter. Please try to register an alternative credit card in your Kickstarter account. If nothing works out then contact us via direct message to see if we can find a solution.Last updated:
Payment: I want to receive one of the additional adapters/filters/cameras. How do I add the amount to my payment? Do I need to contact you about it afterwards?
If you want something in addition to your reward, check out the Add-on List at http://microsites.lomography.com/neptune-kickstarter-rewards. Anything on the Add-on List can be added to your reward – simply increase your pledge by the amount specified on the page. Please note that you can only add things to your reward that are in the Add-on list. You can add as many additional items as you like, all you have to do is calculate the sum of these items and add it to your pledge. You can increase your pledge amount by going to your account page and clicking "manage my pledge", then simply update the total amount for your pledge and save. Please send us a private message afterwards letting us know which items you want to receive on top of your original reward!Last updated:
Features & Design: I have both Canon EF and Nikon F cameras. Will the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System work with both?
No, because each Neptune Convertible Art Lens System is equipped with either a Canon, Nikon or Pentax K mount and only works directly with one. However, it is possible to use an adapter to shoot with a Nikon lens on a Canon camera body. We cannot make adaptors to shoot with a Canon lens on a Nikon body, since the flange distance is longer for Nikon than Canon. Ideally, you should use the correct mount for your camera as there can be minor deviations with how the lens will work: each lens is precisely calibrated for each model, using a collimator for perfect infinite focusing in our production factory. For this reason, we cannot guarantee the full functioning of the lens on non Nikon/Canon cameras. Please note that we also cannot accept any responsibility for damage to your camera or lens caused by using such an adapter.
You can add a Nikon F to Canon EF adapter by simply adding 13USD to your pledge amount and writing us a short, private message to specify which adapter you need.Last updated:
"Features & Design: Will the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System work on any cameras without a Nikon F, Canon EF or Pentax K mount?
Yes, the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System works with loads of different analogue and digital cameras simply by using dedicated adapter mounts. Here are some of the main pairings possible:
• Canon EF to M4/3 Adapter ( i.e. Olympus PEN)
• Canon EF to Sony NEX Adapter (i.e. Sony A7 and Sony NEX)
• Canon EF to Fujifilm X Adapter (i.e. Fujifilm X-Pro 1)
• Nikon F to M4/3 Adapter ( i.e. Olympus PEN)
• Nikon F to Sony NEX Adapter (i.e. Sony A7 and Sony NEX)
• Nikon F to Fujifilm X Adapter (i.e. Fujifilm X-Pro 1)
You can add any of these adapters by simply adding 13USD to your pledge amount and writing us a short, private message to specify which adapter you need.Last updated:
Features & Design: Why is the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System only offered with Nikon F, Canon EF and Pentax K mounts?
We have spent a great deal of time perfecting the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System for it to be compatible with Nikon, Canon and Pentax cameras. Rather than shift our focus towards making other mounts available, we will continue building on our experience with Canon and Nikon mounts and more recently Pentax K. Additionally, with the help of dedicated adapter mounts, the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System can be used on tons of other digital and analogue cameras (i.e. M4/3, NEX and FX).Last updated:
Features & Design: My DSLR does not have a full frame sensor. What difference will this make to my Neptune Convertible Art Lens System photos?
Whether you're shooting with a full frame or cropped frame camera, you’ll be able to get great shots! Only the effective focal length will be different to when used on a full frame camera.
Here are specific crop factors & effective focal lengths for various cameras when combined with the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System:
• APS-C Sensor Cameras, such as Canon Consumer DSLRs, Fujifilm X-Pro 1 and some Sony NEX cameras have a crop factor of 1.5 — the equivalent focal length of the different Neptune Convertible Lenses will be:
Proteus 4.0/80 Art Lens: 120mm
Despina 2.8/50 Art Lens: 75mm
Thalassa 3.5/35 Art Lens: 52mm
• Micro 4/3: You will have a crop factor of 2, the equivalent focal length to the Neptune Convertible Lenses will be:
Proteus 4.0/80 Art Lens: 160mm
Despina 2.8/50 Art Lens: 100mm
Thalassa 3.5/35 Art Lens: 70mmLast updated:
The Neptune Convertible Art Lens System comes with the following items:
- Lens Base
- Front Lenses 35mm, 50mm, 80mm
- Front and Rear Lens Caps
- Manual and Photo Book
- Lens Certification Card
- Warranty Card
- Cleaning Cloth
- Six Special Aperture PlatesLast updated:
Proteus 4.0/80 Art Lens: 0.8m
Despina 2.8/50 Art Lens: 0.4m
Thalassa 3.5/35 Art Lens: 0.25mLast updated:
Benefitting from the convertible optic design, two of the three front lenses — 3.5/35 and 4.0/80 – feature an “extended” aperture. The extended aperture allows for ½ to ⅔ stop more exposure down to the front lenses original widest aperture by slightly increasing chromatic aberration. This gives an advantage of taking stable images by allowing for faster shutter speeds in dark environments which prevents handshake and motion blur of moving objects.Last updated:
We will include six special drop-in aperture plates. The shapes of these will be: cross, five-pointed star, diamond, teardrop, sun and patterned circle.Last updated:
"We offer a standard two-year worldwide warranty. Buyers can register their Neptune Convertible Art Lens System online to secure this. The warranty applies to the original purchaser and is non-transferrable. During the two-year period, the lens will be covered against production errors, adjustments to the lens optics (if the product is outside normal parameters), and material failures based on normal lens usage. If a physical defect arises and a claim is made within the warranty period, Lomography will either repair the product defect or exchange the product with a new, functionally equivalent device.
However, we do not offer a 14 day return policy. Additionally, we cannot offer refunds for rewards after the end of the campaign.
If you discover a problem with your lens please contact us at email@example.com or send us a private message through the Kickstarter Page."Last updated:

Yes, the lenses will come with front and rear covers. The front covers will be screw-on covers for the best possible protection of your glass!Last updated:
All three front lenses of the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System are equipped with a built-in 52mm filter thread — no additional filter or filter holders are included. Filters that aren't screw-on would need a filter mount.Last updated:
Features & Design: Can I use the filters of my Petzval 58 lens on the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System?
Yes, both use a 52mm standard filter thread!Last updated:
Features & Design: Is there going to be an option for electronic contacts on the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System?
"No, we have not designed the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System to work with electronic contacts. Rather than focus our attention on making it functional with electronic contacts, we have instead focused on perfecting all of the other amazing features of the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System. We actually love the feeling of shooting with a manual lens. It changes the whole experience of photography and slows you down. This system gives you a full understanding of how apertures work and drastically alters your shooting results.
We cannot take any responsibility if backers modify their Neptune Convertible Art Lens System and damage their lens or camera.Last updated:
No, the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System is not weather/waterproof.Last updated:
Unfortunately, we cannot disclose all of the exact materials used which is the standard practice for all lens manufacturers. However, we can tell you that we’re using the most suitable material for every single part of the Neptune Convertible Art Lens with precise and professional engineering, i.e. aluminium and multi coated glass optics.Last updated:
The lens base features a Helicoid Focusing Mechanism. To focus the lens you simply turn the focusing ring.Last updated:
We produced this lens in a small factory in China. After extensive research, we found our partners last year when we decided to produce the Daguerreotype Achromat Art Lens and we couldn't be more proud and satisfied of our collaboration. Small and specialized in producing fine optical equipment, the excellency of their standards has really impressed us and we are treasuring this ethical business relationship.Last updated:
The Early Bird and Super Early Bird Deals allow you to get the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System for considerably less than the planned retail price. These rewards have limited availability, so don’t wait around! Please note that these rewards will not be the first to be shipped out. You can find the estimated delivery for every reward package in the reward text!Last updated:
The low serial number rewards include the very first lenses that will be produced. They will be the first lenses we ship out to backers. These rewards have limited availability, so don’t wait around! The silver and the black version will have their own sets of serial numbers.Last updated:
Rewards: Can I choose which serial number I get if I pledge for one of the low serial number rewards?
No, because we want to maintain a fair system for our backers, the low serial number reward lenses will be delivered according to who backed first, and according to which lens mount you request. Canon mount lenses will get even serial numbers, Nikon mount lenses will get uneven numbers.Last updated:
Please find more information about the all products offered on this page by checking out http://microsites.lomography.com/neptune-kickstarter-rewards.Last updated:
We’ve had such a great time with the backers from our previous Kickstarter campaigns that we want to do it with you again! We want to give you a truly great experience but a trip to Neptune would take too long, so instead we'll sweep you off on a fantastic voyage of discovery to Vienna where you'll visit the Lomograhy HQ. From there we will take you on an additional top secret adventure!Last updated:
The retail launch price of the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System is currently estimated at $990/€990 for the silver and black lenses, so you can save up to 45% with some packages!Last updated:
If you back a low serial number lens then make sure you choose the reward package for the lens mount that you need (Canon EF or Nikon F). If you do not pledge for a low serial number and want a Canon EF or Nikon F mount for your lens, then we'll send you a short survey soon after the project has been successfully funded where you can decide which mount you want. If you want a lens with a Pentax K mount then please make sure that you select one of the Pentax specific reward tiers.Last updated:
We accept pledges for two lenses with our Bundle Rewards. Unfortunately, due to Kickstarter regulations, we cannot accept more than one pledge.Last updated:
"With the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System you get three different lenses for the price of one! Choose between three fixed focal lengths and two different aperture systems that allow you to excel in any style of photography, whether you’re shooting portraits, the streets or everyday life. The sleek and compact design means there’s no need to carry around bulky equipment — the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System is everything you need. The glass optics produce razor-sharp images and the dual aperture system lets you create beautiful bokeh by dropping in one of six special plates. As the Neptune System is expandable, we'll be creating more features and front lenses, with possible focal lengths ranging from an ultra-wide-angle 15mm to a 400mm monocular, so you can grow your system to suit your every need. Backing the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System on Kickstarter means you save up to 45 percent off the retail price as well as having the chance to vote for the focal length of the front lens we'll be creating next! The expected price for the next front lens is between 200 and 400USD.Last updated:
The Neptune Convertible Art Lens System gives you three different focal lengths to choose from, so you will have complete control in any photographic situation life throws at you! The difference between a zoom lens and the Neptune System is that you have the quality of three prime lenses in one. Whilst a zoom lens may offer you the same focal lengths, the quality of a 50mm prime lens is better than the quality of a zoom lens at 50mm for example. This is because prime lenses don't have as many moving parts as a zoom lens, so the glass can be arranged more precisely. With three of the most versatile focal lengths you'll be ready for anything, whether you're shooting the streets, portraits or the great outdoors. With a small and sleek design, the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System is much less bulky to carry than a zoom lens, so you can take it with you on any adventure. Additionally, features like the drop-in aperture system allow you to produce beautiful bokeh with one of six special plates — it's unlike any other lens out there.Last updated:
No, the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System is only available in a set with all three prime lenses.Last updated:
The Neptune Convertible Art Lens System is only available in a set with all three front lenses. The lens base is not capable of producing sharp images on its own — you'll need the three front lenses to make the most out of the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System.Last updated:
Rewards: Will there be additional front lenses for the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System in the future? If so, what lenses are you working on and how much will they be?
Yes, we're planning to expand the system in the future. We cannot give you more details at this point as we'll develop and decide what comes next in colloboration with our Backers here on Kickstarter! Depending on what it will be, the cost for an additional lens is currently estimated to be about 200 to 400USDLast updated:
Rewards: Why wouldn't I wait until there are more lenses for the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System before I purchase it?
Without your support on Kickstarter the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System might not become a reality. You can save up to 45 percent off the retail price when you back the lens here and you will also be able to use it before it's officially available online and in stores!Last updated:

The Naiad 15mm front lens is available for 249 USD as an exclusive Kickstarter offer. The planned retail price is currently set at 450 USD.Last updated:
Our brand new front lens, Naiad, is expected to ship in spring next year. But if you’ve pledged for an Art Lens System with an earlier expected delivery, and added Naiad to your pledge later – don’t worry. We’ll send you your Art Lens System with the 35mm, 50mm and 80mm lenses first. The 15mm Naiad lens will be sent to you separately, at the earliest possible date!Last updated:
Add-ons: Is a minimum number of backers required for the 15mm Naiad front lens to go into production?
Yes, we'll need to reach a certain amount of backers for the production to become feasible. If we were to not reach a sufficient number of backers to make Naiad possible, we would personally contact everyone who added the Naiad Front Lens to their original pledge and offer a full refund.Last updated:
Please note that Naiad only works in combination with the lens base which is available as part of the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System. Whilst we are working hard to finalize the Naiad Lens design, specifications are still subject to change. We are aiming for a 15mm front lens with a meticulous optical construction and a closest focusing distance of an incredible 10 to 15 cm. It will produce the strong, saturated colors and punchy contrast that define Lomography's signature look. Please find below a table of predicted technical specifications:
Lens focal length: 15mm
Image circle: >44mm
Front element group mounting mechanism: bayonet mount
Aperture: ~ f3.8 - f15
Closest focusing distance: ~ 0.1 -0.15m

Optic construction: 8 elements
Front elements size: < 75mm
Filter thread size: > 82mm
Lens outer construction material: AluminumLast updated:
