Uncrate – “Used to be scanning in film required either a flatbed scanner with a special compartment inside or a standalone scanner — neither of which were particularly cheap. Soon you'll be able to do it with nothing but your phone and the Lomography Smartphone Film Scanner”
CNET Asia – “We think this is a brilliant way of making film scanning more easily accessible. You only need your smartphone to be on your way to digitizing your childhood photos and other old memories captured before the days of digital cameras.”
Ubergizmo – “Talk about bridging the old and new schools of thought, where analogue photographers and retro-enthusiasts are able to jump aboard the digital bandwagon without missing a beat.”
Engadget – “The fine folks over at Lomography are at it again, but this time, they're out for something more than just quirky. In fact, this may be useful for many more people than those obsessed with retrofied / distorted photography.”
Pocket-lint – “Lomography aims to bring analog into the new age by acting as a film scanner that can easily hook-up with a smartphone, allowing users to scan, edit, and print 35mm film.”
Introducing the Lomography Smartphone Film Scanner
We are Lomography and we go completely crazy for all things analog. We're constantly developing an entire range of our own analog cameras, films and accessories; If you'd like to find out more about us, we'd love to be your friends on Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter; plus you can subscribe to our newsletter to hear all our latest news.
We're very excited to show you our first Kickstarter project...the Lomography Smartphone Film Scanner! This little gadget offers you an insanely simple way to scan, edit, print and share all your 35mm films.
Many of us still shoot analog photos or have heaps of 35mm film lying around at home. Maybe you have a collection of funny photos from when you were young or even funnier photos of your parents when they were young. Wouldn't it be great if you could share all those old memories in an instant? We’ve developed the Lomography Smartphone Film Scanner for this very reason; it’s a brand new way to scan your 35mm stills and the perfect tool for analog photographers and retro-enthusiasts.
The Perfect Way to Scan, Edit, Print and Share Your 35mm Films
Simply turn on the Smartphone Film Scanner back-light, insert your film, take a photo of it using your Smartphone and use the included App (iPhone and Android versions available) to edit and share. In an instant, you’ll end up with a digital version of your film which can be archived, emailed, posted on social media sites or printed.
The Smartphone Film Scanner was conceived as a way to offer photographers and enthusiasts a quick, easy and portable way to scan 35mm films. It offers unrivaled speed and convenience when compared to other film scanners. In addition, the scanner will work with a free integrated Lomoscanner App, which allows you to easily edit and share your scans.
Instant Scanning, Instant Sharing. The Smartphone Film Scanner has been developed by a team of experienced analog engineers at Lomography who specialize in designing new analog cameras and accessories. Analog photography is our passion – and it’s this passion which drives us to want to capture every analog memory using the Smartphone Film Scanner. The scanner is designed with a direct light panel which illuminates your film; scanning each film is made as easy as capturing a photo on your phone. It scans at a quality perfectly capable for archiving, sharing and even printing.
iPhone and Android Compatible. The Smartphone Film Scanner is compatible with all iPhone models and selected Android Smartphones* too. We're currently working on a free integrated Lomoscanner App and both iPhone and Android versions of the App will be made available. The Lomoscanner App will allow you to edit negative scans into positives, stitch together scans into seamless panoramas and animate 35mm analogue movies shot using the Lomography LomoKino camera. What's more, you can share those photos with all your friends with just the click of a button.
Complete Convenience. The Smartphone Film Scanner is small and can easily be transported. Whilst back-lit photo scanners also exist for scanning negatives, these scanners are large and cumbersome. The Smartphone Film Scanner is small enough to fit in your bag or rucksack, allowing you to scan films away from home. It’s 100% mobile and easy to use.
Works With All 35mm Films. The Smartphone Film Scanner allows you to scan all different kinds of 35mm film imaginable. You can easily scan color negative, color slide and black & white films. It’s also great for scanning those unconventional photo formats including longer panoramic shots (such as those taken with the Lomography Horizon and Spinner 360° cameras) and 35mm analog movies (such as those taken with the Lomography LomoKino).

We are a globally active organization dedicated to experimental and creative analog photography. We have a great, buzzing community of analog enthusiasts from all over the world.
We love the past and are keeping all the wonders of analog photography alive and kicking in the 21st Century! It's this love for analog which leads us to take trips to flea-markets to scour the stalls for amazing old images; and it's also why we are pretty chuffed with our new invention, the Smartphone Film Scanner! The Smartphone Film Scanner has been developed by Lomography and our dedicated in-house development and design team; the entire project has been spearheaded by the Lomography founders Matthias Fiegl, Wolfgang Stranzinger and Sally Bibawy.
We are currently celebrating our 20th anniversary. In our 20 years so far, we have a strong track record of developing many different cameras, films and accessories independently. For example, last year we released the Belair X 6-12, which is a new and breathtaking 6x12 medium format camera. Looking further back, we have also produced cameras such as a 35mm camera called the Spinner 360° which can take 360° panoramic shots, the LomoKino which is a 35mm movie camera and the Diana F+ which is a reinvention of a cult classic 1960s camera.
In addition to developing cameras, we also love developing new films and accessories. Last year, for example, we introduced a range of brand new 110 films to the world - a previously discontinued film we raised from the dead. We also produce accessories such as the DigitaLIZA which helps you to scan 35mm films using a regular flatbed scanner.
You can find out more about our history and the products we produce on our website http://www.lomography.com/about.

Risks and challenges
We are really excited about being able to share this brand new way of scanning film with the world and are very close to having it finalized. But we need your help to help our dream fully materialize.
We are currently already finished with the tooling of the Smartphone Film Scanner and right before being able to mass-produce the scanner. But still require your support to help finish work on the iPhone and Android versions of the App. We already have a first prototype version of the iPhone App ready; but we must continue work on this and then develop an Android version too.
We estimate that the first shipment of the Smartphone Film Scanner and the App will be ready by March 2013. We promise that the first quantities of the Smartphone Film Scanner will be shipped to our loyal Kickstarter backers!
The only problem we foresee at this stage is that the App development may take slightly longer than we estimate due to unforeseen problems. But we will obviously do everything possible to get the App ready as soon as we can. When it launches, the App will be free to download.
For the rewards on offer, we will endeavor to distribute rewards as soon as we can. However, certain rewards may take longer to organize than others due to logistical reasons. We promise to keep you informed on this every step of the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
