Any word on an updated version of the Android app?
Hi Tim! Have you seen the latest update of the iPhone app https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/lomoscanner-2/id857674510…?
Hey Lomo peeps! Thanks very much for the update. Will you be re-writing the iPhone app too? I really hope so because its not very nice at the moment and hasn't really ever been.
Another month. Nothing. When you said you "hope to have it ready soon", does that soon actually mean SOON or just at some indeterminate point before the heat death of the universe?
Still nothing? Ridiculous. What a waste of money to a bunch of liars. Disgusting.
Hi The JJ - We are still very much working on this as previously communicated. We are now working on the new, improved Android version of the app and hope to have it ready soon.
Anyone want to know why it is taking so long............Lonography has another project going:
So I suspect the same pattern of execution...a creature of habit...."fund and move on" - the "smash and grab" technique.
Thanks to Lomography not only have I sworn off all of my Lomo stuff, but I think I am done with KS!!!!!!
Thank you Daniel! We'll post a link here shortly :)
Hi The JJ, I'm sorry you feel this way. We are trying to move forward with this project and are still very dedicated to sorting all these issues out. I can understand your frustration - we are pushing to resolve everything asap.
How does this product continue to sell in retail? What have the rest of the 3000 backers been doing? Well stay tuned for the answers:
People are still buying something to good to be true - a micro scanner for your mobile - well not from lomography!
Sitting on the shelf or packed away with note to self. NO MORE lomography products!
Timeline for Android app: 1 month until release / 10 months until actual working version / 18 months until Android app 2 .............and 3 years later redundant anyway.............
Sorry lomography but you really screwed this up!
The new app version is bad as the first version, sorry but, don't waste your time and money in this proyect.
I have a Nexus 5 to help with beta testing
Another fortnight, another lack of progress. Farce.
Hi Francis - We are for sure working on this and are talking to Android app developers to get this moving and have a great new app for you as soon as possible. Kind regards
Actually, you said "Next week we will start working on the Android version" on the 15th. More delays to actually having a working app? How long does it really take to do this? 16 months and over quarter of a million dollars, and you have still not fulfilled your kickstarter goals.
Hi the JJ, so far the feedback on the new IOS app has been very positive. As mentioned in the comment below, based on all the feedback we got we already updated the app to fix a bug which was found. We of course will continue to accept, encourage and monitor feedback on the new app and make improvements based on this. As stated, we will keep you up to date on the developments with the new Android app.
"Start work??? Very soon???"
This project was successfully funded on Feb 4, 2013.
Almost 1.5 years ago.......................................................
Again - you can apologize - Lomography - all you want - but more than a 1/4 of a million dollars later - definitely NOT what we got onboard for and NOT what we expected...
Any feedback from those using IOS...?
Hi everyone - We have now updated the app also with a bug fix which fixed an issue which caused crashes when scanning LomoKino movies - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/lomoscanner-2/id857674510… - As promised, we will start work on the new Lomoscanner 2.0 app for Android very soon and keep you updated on progress
Hi The JJ - Many thanks for your further reply. Of course you are not a standalone backer - we totally understand that many backers are waiting on the reworked Android app, that is why in the previous reply it was stated: "we realize many other backers such as yourself are waiting on the reworked Android version still". We will now wait for the first feedback on the iOS version (mostly usability) and fix all potential problems. Next week we will start working on the Android version based on the iOS version. We didn't want to work alongside on both versions as then changes in the interface (and there have been many) would have created double the work. We are committed to delivering a fantastic app for Android and apologize for the delay in this.
I do not feel this way as a standalone backer. I am more than positive I represent a large portion of backers who feel frustrated, disappointed and fed up!!
Here is a quote from another KS project - just so you know how it is done:
......."App Status:The iPhone App is nearing completion, the Android is a little behind but still on track. The windows phone version is making progress as well...."
Do you see the difference in the workflow?
2-3 months away for the Android app is not acceptable!
But again for lomography we should consider this more than adequate!
Hi The JJ, sorry to hear you feel this way. We never meant to celebrate this as a victory and were simply passing on the news to our Kickstarter backers that the new app is ready, has been worked on like we always promised it would be and is an improvement on the original. This seemed logical given the fact that many of the Kickstarter backers for this project are also interested in the ios version of the app, even though we realize many other backers such as yourself are waiting on the reworked Android version still. The news we worked on the IOS version of the app prior to the Android version was passed on in the comments section here in our comment on Feb 28th so this was what we planned and communicated for quite some time. At this stage fixing specific dates on when the Android app will be launched does not seem prudent; we estimate that it will be 2-3 months. As we have always said, we will work on this and we will get the app to the level it deserves to be.
a project creator, who simply did not deserve it.
I find it difficult to believe that you, a fairly large and "respectable" company would take over a year to release the app for this product - an app that was the main reason for this campaign. What is still more mind blowing for me is how you managed to push this app out for IOS - all the while not working parallel the android app. Surely almost 300 000 allotted for a parallel ios/ android app creation, after almost a year and a half....
I am sorry but I cannot see this as a victory. My favorite part of the update was: ".....and will start work on this very soon..." referencing the android app. Does this mean we have another 1.5 years to wait??? Not unreasonable according to your track record.
When will this android app be finished?? Can we get 1 CONCRETE DATE??
As I mentioned before - my lomography stuff is stowed away. I had pre-ordered the purple film - and cancelled - you have singlehandedly shattered my faith in lomography, and took the fire right out of this hobby.
Android app - I will believe it when I see it. Until then my money went to a piece of plastic that does not do as promised, an incomplete project and worst of all, an deserving project creator, who simply did not deserve it.
I will miss my hobby - but being in the media, I will always have material - ("generation of bad press") no matter how you turn it - for years to come!
Hi Francis, Daniel and The JJ - We have been working on this as promised. We have just posted an update about the Lomoscanner 2.0 App which is now available for ios - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lomography/the-lomography-smartphone-film-scanner/posts/810189 - we realize you are especially interested in the reworked Android app and we will work on this very soon also. We are confident that the new app is a big improvement on the first app and would of course love to hear your feedback so we can make it even better.
As nothing is happening here I have posted to Lomography's public Facebook page as I am absolutely outraged that such a company can take all the money that was pledged and not live up to their promises.
Into April now, and you've not commented.
My pledge was for the Scanner and the LomoKino. You said "It’s the ultimate combination you’ll need for shooting and scanning short 35mm movies." But you have not fulfilled this. I cannot scan my LomoKino films. I effectively have a piece of plastic and an empty promise.
Please show some sign that things are going to get done, well over a year after you got over 250 thousand dollars.
In November, I sent the following:
"To Whomever it may concern,
You seem to be not responding to comments from this project - Can you confirm a date by which you will have the Lomo Film Scanner app working for Android devices? Currently it is missing essential functionality to use as a film scanner. It is also utterly useless for using to scan LomoKino films, for which there is no other replacement app.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
You *STILL* have not given a timetable for this. You *STILL* have not finished fulfilling rewards because the app is an integral part of this project.
Please give us some real information.
"Is a creator legally obligated to fulfill the promises of their project?
We can you give you the benefit of the doubt, (although like I said, all my lomography stuff is stowed and thoughts are going towards ebay!)
If you can provide us with a SOLID TIMELINE and STICK TO IT. Then maybe - a fraction of faith can be restored. So ball is in your court - COMMENT SECTION or PROPER UPDATE - Give us a timeline for a finished - working - bugless android app - and stick to it...
If this is too much for your over 3500 backers then your run around comments and large bouts of silence will suffice.....
You seem to have plenty of time for your Petzval kickstarter, but no time here?
One year and one month later.
Another week and no word still. Great. Stunning work.
Got a release date yet?
I guess feeling cheated and being cheated are nestled pretty close together. Just semantics.
"We are already extremely confident that the new app will be a big improvement on the current version" Getting it to focus would be a good start... From a photography company having nearly $300,000 and a year to produce an app that doesn't even focus is... worrying to say the least.
Over a year ago you said "The iOS App for iPhone will be finished shortly with the Android App not far behind."
What happened between then and now that meant after a year and $268,702 of a $50,000 goal, you still can't produce a working app. If you had only raised $50,000 would you have been able to produce anything at all, when over 5 times that amount only gets us to this point?
Hi JJ. We are not cheating you since we are still very much working on this. Unfortunately as previously explained this project has taken longer than expected (as can happen with kickstarter). Yes we read all comments but as we have previously communicated (please see our comment from November 26) we are prioritizing the ios version of the new app first and will work on the new Android app as soon as the ios version is completed. Again we apologize for the delay but we have made a firm commitment to rework the app and get it to a high standard and this will happen both for ios and Android.
HAVE YOU NOT READ THE THE COMMENT BELOW FROM daniel rayner on Jan 14??
The Android community wants to know WHEN! they can expect the app that was described as a primary component of this project that finished a year ago!!!!!!!!! Almost 300000 dollars later and you speak of ios with NO mention of of Android.
Trust me its not ""Thanks for your continued interest!"" Its more likeI hate to be cheated!!
Hi JJ and Francis - we are still working on this! We are building the new ios app as previously communicated. We are sorry again we have missed the last communicated date we expected to have the new app ready by. But we have a first build of the new app and now want to test it thoroughly. We are already extremely confident that the new app will be a big improvement on the current version; both in terms of functionality and design. We will of course make the app public as soon as it is tested and we are happy with it. Thanks for your continued interest!
@Francis - and you will hear from them no longer......................................................
No news still?
I wanted to use it with the lomokino. I can't (without cropping and processing each image individually and then using a time lapse program or something to combine them etc). You've had a hell of a long time to develop an app that uses functions baked in to most roms.
Absolutely ludicrous! You are a multimillionaire dollar company! All you have to do is develop 1 app. Hire the right people and finish this project or return peoples money!! You continue to send me promo spam email - and expect me to be interested! You ruined my faith in your products - ALL of them!!
Put down a date and stick to it! Let the Android community feel like they have not been cheated!!
@Francis and @Daniel - the app is not working properly at the moment, and we are taking all the steps necessary to fix the problems. We receive feedback from the community everyday, and all these comments are reported and taken into account as we work on the app. Please also understand that this is our first time to develop an app and many things did not go as well as we had anticipated, but we have a team of developers working on our app with top priority. We are suggesting alternative apps in the meantime so you can still use the scanner to scan your negatives.
Daniel - I couldn't agree more.
Lomography - you have SERIOUSLY dropped the ball here. Just in it for the money.
This is utter bullshit, this project has been completed for over a year and all you keep telling us is you are working on it. To date the Android community has not had a usable app. Not one image taken has been of any usable quality. I am offended that you seem to think it is acceptable to suggest other apps to use. I personally bought this to convert images from the Lomokino into video. You have taken my money and not provided me with services that were promised through the funding stage.
Can you please stop lying to this community and let us know if you are going to release an Android app this will do what was promised. If not I would like my money back for something that I have been unable to use.
@Francis - sorry for our late reply. We are doing our best to improve the app, taking into consideration the feedback we have heard from the community so far. We have some alternate app suggestions you may use in the meantime: http://microsites.lomography.com/smartphone-scanner/#app
Any word on when you'll have an app that works?
Wait... so you're aiming at a new ios7 app for a year after the funding was completed, and an Android app after that? So... a year after your delivery date, most likely...
You said on June 19th that you were running late, but... this really is taking the mic.
Whilst a redesign is all well and good (who doesn't like a good design?) I really couldn't care less about the design, when there is no FUNCTION. I don't mind if it looks like someone cobbled it together in MS Paint if I could actually USE it.
Hi Francis and Daniel - we are also very much committed to delivering a great Android version of the App. The reworked and redesigned ios7 app will then lay the groundwork for a totally new Android version of the app too!
I feel like I'm being trolled by Lomography. They don't have a working android version, but they continue to update the iOS version. I feel extremely offended by the last post by Lomography.
If you can't figure out how to make an Android version, offer everyone the choice of their money back.
Erm... Right. Great. How about the ANDROID app?
