About

Dissatisfied with the current foot retention options on the market we set out to design a pedal system with the efficiency and security of clipless pedals that also allows you to wear whatever shoes you want. With our redesign, you no longer have to worry about your footwear on your daily commute around town. Using pedals with a hold and durability you can rely on for a casual trip to the store in high heels or ripping through town on your fixed gear.

 The Pedal

The pedal is designed for durability - made of super strong nylon plastic and uses an aerospace-grade aluminum cage to provide extra support and strength. The tread pattern has been pushed from the classic perimeter to the balls of the feet to provide better grip. The pedal has also been balanced to hang at an easy access angle, with additional toe flip grips for easy access.

The Strap

An ergonomically designed, adjustable nylon strap capable of holding up to 5,000 lbs provides support for any style shoe. Designed for the harsh conditions of fixed gear riding, but comfortable enough for a cruse in sandals. The strap is easily adjustable with one hand on the fly.

The strap is made out of water resistant nylon fabric with a cushioned protective sleeve designed to keep your foot safely in the pedal without scuffing up your shoes or smashing your toes like traditional metal cages.

Crank SLC/ Loki Cycles

Bikes are our Life - we own a commuter bike shop (Crank SLC) in Salt Lake City, UT and an urban bicycle company called Loki Cycles. We specialize in highly customizable fixed gear and single speeds, with special attention paid to the durability, comfort and style of every product we design. Our goal is to make bike commuting easy - and provide our customers with the highest quality rides out there.

Why Kickstarter?

We need your help to bring the Lux Pedal to market! Your generous pledge will go directly towards helping us fund the costs of purchasing raw materials, final packaging design, shipping, and the first production run.

Your pledge will also help secure the warehouse where we will be assembling and packaging the Lux Pedal

Our Team

Christian Clemens - Founder of Loki Cycles

Christian is a former bike messenger and project manager who spent years overseeing engineering projects from concept to construction. The knowledge he gained from his unusual work background has proved invaluable when applied to his one true passion—creating superior commuter bicycles.

Jason Klug - Designer Engineer

Jason and his partner, Industrial Designer Sam Wellskopf's experience with design and end-to-end product manufacturing has been crucial in creating the Lux Pedal. We're honored to have the opportunity to work with such talented people on the cutting edge of artistic production.

Juliet Lalouel - Director of Marketing

Juliet’s skills at graphic design have brought you to this very page, and her insight on what women are looking for in a commuter pedal have shaped our conceptions of what a pedal should be in the first place.

Of course, none of this would be possible without people like you. Our friends, families and community are essential to us, and we know that our success hinges on the support of others. If you share our page or support our campaign you are officially part of our team - and we love you.

Risks and challenges

The risks we're facing fall under two main categories: manufacturing defects and manufacturing delays.

Quality Control—Producing a defective product is the biggest risk of manufacturing anything. Our plan on minimizing this uncertainty is to keep production within the United States, where we can work with our manufacturers one on one. We plan on using reputable factories that have a history in producing quality products before assembling the pedals in-house at Loki Cycles.

Manufacturing Delays—We've learned a great deal about working with manufacturers by producing multiple generations of bicycles. We know how to build and maintain solid working relationships and how to get things done. Our friends at Klugonyx consistently have various products in different stages of manufacturing, and their lines of communication will prove invaluable for ensuring our pedals are made on time.
