A few years ago, my life took a turn away from music. I thought it would be sensible to give up that dream and concentrate exclusively on teaching... I got a degree and a nice job that paid the bills and everything.
But recently, as I've begun to write and practice again, I've realized just how important music really is to me. This album--a burst of productivity after a few years of silence--symbolizes my happy return to the philosophy that life is short, and I've got to spend mine making music.
This is a passion project. I've got a bunch of brand new songs, and I'm getting some of the best musicians in town to play them, including a string quartet and a horn section! It's a bit of a departure from the rock-based projects I've been part of... this is more piano-centered jazz songwriter type stuff. I really think you'll love it.
Anyway, even passion projects require funding. So, here's how that $5,500 breaks down:
$2500 - The good news is, the bulk of it will go straight to the musicians. Strings, horns, etc.
$1500 - Mixing
$500 - Mastering
$1000 - Design and printing
I’d like to thank all of you who have supported me through the years, and who invest in any artist! It’s people like you, the patrons of the world, who keep great art alive, and I really am eternally grateful for that. Let’s make this happen!
Risks and challenges
Tons of little things are bound to go wrong. They always do. But overall, there aren't enough O's in smooth to adequately represent how this record is going to go.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
