In Dungeonology the heroes will explore new places and their inhabitants with the aim of discussing their thesis and becoming the new professor in their own field of expertise.
It is an atypical dungeon crawler where the goal is not to free the area from hordes of furious and terrifying monsters, collecting huge stashes of treasure or magical weapons; to the contrary, our heroes’ job will be to study habits, take notes and stay undercover.
The Scholar who gathers the most or best quality information can discuss their thesis, getting themselves promoted to the role of professor.
The production of Dungeonology will be possible above all thanks to your support. For this reason, we've decided to thank you by giving away a few SG Kickstarter Exclusives. During the campaign, a number of SGs and Add-ons will be released, dedicated to all those who believe in our project. As with every project presented by Ludus Magnus, Dungeonology is similarly characterised by a strong focus on the visual aspects of each game component.
For this latest adventure, we have rounded up a truly impressive team of artists. Giovanni Pirrotta and Simone de Paolis, our in-house illustrators, will be supported by artists such as Riccardo Crosa (Rigor Mortis), Andrea Parisi (Marvel, Star Wars) or Matteo "Policromo" Perilli (Black Board Editions).
Many other figures in the board game industry will help us define the imagery of Dungeonology. The renaissance influence of the setting has a strong impact on the choice of clothing and names, deeply immersing players into this extraordinary atmosphere.
While many other external sculptors have helped us give life to our ideas, it was Fernando Armentano and Tommaso Incecchi, who headed up the work. They were directly involved in the development and revision of every model.

Ludus Magnus Studio aims to create new, exciting games with a special eye for mechanics and quality materials. Through this campaign, we are seeking to fund our fourth project: Dungeonology: The Expedition.
Just like our previous games, Dungeonology has required a huge effort by the Studio and its creators. Following a massive investment in terms of human resources, Dungeonology is the result of the efforts of a team that is passionate about its work and strives for excellence in every creative field.
Our past projects, Nova Aetas, Sine Tempore and Black Rose Wars, are proof of the passion we invest in the development of our games and the quality we achieve thanks to our high-level professionalism.
Dungeonology is a project that was born more than 2 years ago.
The game has been play-tested at numerous trade fairs by loads of groups, from occasional players to test the entertainment factor and more hardcore players to perfect the mechanics.
Thanks to this preliminary work, we will be able to send the core game, Circe and all aesthetic expansions in rapid time, making sure you receive the game before October 2019. Many of the SGs and Add-ons have already been developed and tested, ready to be unlocked and produced. Should we exceed the expectations of the project, all the rest of the material will be sent by May 2020. Thanks to the experience acquired in previous projects, we are fully aware that if certain objectives are reached, we will need to ask you for more time.
But we trust that by having the base game and part of the SGs and Add-ons straight away, the wait will be made a little easier.
Your rewards will be shipped from our international hubs. Based on your location, we will either ship to you from our hub in Germany (EU backers), China (Asia Pacific backers), Canada (Canadian backers), Australia (Australia and New Zealand backers) or the United States (U.S.A. and the rest of the world).
In most cases, you won’t be hit with customs or VAT either, as we offer Customs Friendly Shipping to the countries where most of our backers are located.
Backers who do not complete their pledge manager by the deadline, which will be made clear via email notification, may need to have their rewards shipped from the US. This may incur additional shipping costs to international backers that would need to be paid for at that time.
Due to the size of the rewards and the risk of bounce back, we cannot ship to PO Boxes either domestically or internationally.
Following is a list of rough estimates for the cost of shipping a standard game package (4kg volumetric weight). Keep in mind these are just estimates, and costs may rise based on weight increases due to unlocked stretch goals and any optional buys you may select.
Why are the materials shipped in two waves?
We've experimented with various shipping methods over the years and after a number of calculations, we've reached the following conclusion:
Generally speaking, it costs more to ship in two waves, but the difference is offset (or almost) by the greater number of shipments made, also thanks to optimized processes in the sorting centres.
Moreover, double shipments offer two distinct benefits: firstly for you backers, who receive the game much quicker than you would for a normal KS project, and secondly for us editors insofar as we're able to optimise the process, thus lowering the error rate in shipments.
Risks and challenges
An ambitious project like Dungeonology will require great effort for us as both individuals and a team. We are aware that the huge work to get to production and the subsequent distribution may suffer hitches and delays, but our team will do everything we can to prevent and correct any delays.
We will strive to get you your game on time.
We have collectively produced, or helped to produce, many projects and we are learning and improving our skills every day.
We promise to keep you informed on the project with regular and frequent news so that you can always be sure of your investment.
We offer a full refund, including fees, up to 14 days after the project ends. After 14 days and until we pay the production agreement with the manufactory, we offer a no questions asked refund minus the Kickstarter and payment processing fees (which we cannot recover). Once we pay the production agreement with the manufactory, we do not offer a refund. If we fail to fulfill your game you are entitled to a full refund, including fees.
All refunds after 14 days may be processed via PayPal or the payment reversed through Stripe to your credit card at our discretion. Refunds within 14 days are issued through payment reversal via Stripe to your credit card.
