My name is Lauren Monreal and my collection is called Wrapping the Enrapture. My collection is inspired by the basket sculptures created by artist Debora Muhl. I loved how free formed her shapes are, and it feels as if they are capturing the negative space. I took those feelings and applied them to my collection. I have sculptured pieces that created a relationship with in the space of around the human figure. I'm using textured fabrics outside as well as inside.
In my collection I plan on using as many natural dyes as possible. During times like this when there are many things we are doing that are hurting our earth, I do believe in trying to use items and processes that wont cause more harm. Unfortunately there no such thing as a man made item that is fully sustainable, but I do want to do my part by using as many natural items as possible. I'm going to use natural fibers, natural dyes, and a process called eco bundling. As I'm starting to to create these garments and proceed with some of the processes the cost is starting to be greater that I was hoping. This is were I need you help to see the collection out the way I intended.
I am doing the collection for my senior year at Savannah College of Art and Design. This collection shows who I am as a art, and is paving a way to show the fashion world what I can do before I venture off into it.
