While I am renown as a columnist and singer, I am also a fine artist.
Help me fulfill a deathbed promise to my amazing dad to continue his legacy of standing up for what is right and Godly. The city of Deltona Florida selected three of my paintings for its Black History Month exhibit at city hall. The paintings were a part of a series of paintings titled, “Storefronts”, memories of growing up in my preacher dad's Baltimore storefront church.
Deltona's mayor demanded that my paintings be removed from the exhibit due to their “religious theme”. Images in my paintings deemed offensive by the mayor were a bible on a table, a man wearing a “I heart Jesus” cap and a New Orleans style funeral procession.
My dad, the late Dr Rev Lloyd E. Marcus advised me not to allow the city to ban God. My case was represented by renowned attorney Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel. News outlets around the world featured my story. Feeling the international pressure, the city of Deltona rescinded its ban and rehung my paintings.
As a tribute to Dad who recently passed at age 90, I wish to produce a book featuring the three famous banned paintings along with nine other paintings in my “Storefronts” series. The book will include inspiring stories from Dad's ministry and inside black storefront churches. This book is my way of honoring my dad; continuing his legacy of standing up for religious liberty. To produce Dad's legacy book, I request your help in raising $5000.
