About this project
A standalone sequel - original oddball Aeronauts not required - or expands oddball Aeronauts with 2 new factions, multiplayer dogfights and still NO SURFACE REQUIRED, what more could you want?
"Snowtide!" you cry? Okay! Well a bit about that later, but first . . .
oddball Aeronauts 2 : Double the Trouble
New oddball officers, bots and crew with different deck compositions and playing styles. These guys are also armed brand with new tricks with which to dazzle your foes. These are entirely new factions all round.
Will you side with the wild and wily, gun totin' Free Kingdoms or the outlawed, gadget obsessed Mechinauts?
If you want to know how these new factions differ from the factions in original oddball Aeronauts and their new tricks, well . . .
What happens when three or four Factions find themselves facing off over the same patch of sky? Well now you can find out!
'oddball Aeronauts 2 : Double the Trouble' comes with rules for three or four players so if you have a second deck such as the Pilot Set you're all set for oddball aeronautical dogfights the likes of which even ancient clouds have never seen! And that is saying something!
You can try out the multiplayer rules and get a sneaky beaky peaky at the two new factions by downloading our Double the Trouble print and play demo.
"This game already has so much going for it . . . and in my opinion they've only made it better! This sequel keeps pushing the cleverness, while giving new options for fun. If you liked the first game, this is a no-brainer. If you're not sure, this is a great diving-in point, since the sequel is also a standalone game. Well done Maverick Muse!" Theology of Games preview
"oddball Aeronauts 2 is a worthy second edition to the world of oddball Aeronauts. You get two unique new factions which are very well-balanced with the original games decks, but also add new experiences." Boardgamequest preview
Plus . . .
Rahdo's . . . Talk Through!
This amazing (of course we would say that) oddball sequel gives you the core faction cards for both the Mechinauts and the Free Kingdoms, some strange new Events and a small huddle of new Mercenaries just waiting to make trouble - all the cards you need for two players to play right out of the pocket sized box.
- 26x Core Free Kingdoms Faction Cards
- 26x Core Mechinauts Faction Cards
- 4x Mercenary Cards
- 6x Event Cards
- 1x Tricks Glossary & Multiplayer Rules Booklet*
*While this Faction Set doesn't include the core rules, you don't need the original Pilot Set to play these two new factions, just download the original full 2 player game rules for free here.
Snowtide is here! What is it? Well, Snowtide is made up of 2 micro-expansions of 5 cards each. The first - 5 Snowtide Event Cards - will be sent to every backer at Pilot level and above as a free bonus!
The second - 5 Snowtide Mercenary Cards - is an add-on. Add £3.21 to your pledge and you'll receive these 5 Snowtide Mercenaries.
You can find all the details in Update #14 - do check it out before asking questions!
(Note: The Snowtide cards will be made available in the future direct from Maverick Muse as one micro-expansion of 10 cards. This will retail at a price of £10 and won't be available until Dec. 2015 at the earliest.)
oddball Aeronauts is a light strategy, play in the hand (no surface required) card game of dirigible duels set in a steampunk-esque fantasy world. It was originally funded here on Kickstarter in February (check out the page here).
- 2 Player (You'll need two sets for 3 or 4 player games)
- 15-20 minutes
- Ages 9yrs and beyond!
In brief: Pick a Skill. Decide how many cards to play. Compare with your opponent to determine the result. Use special abilities and plan moves in advance to swing things your way where you can. You discard the cards you played and if you lose, could discard more . . . or your opponent could get cards back. You win the game when your opponent has discarded all their cards.
Rahdo (aka Richard Ham) gives a very good run through of the game in this gameplay run through video. Note that this was for the prototype and some things were improved for the finished Pilot Set, including the box quality and a few tricks and notations on the cards.

The art for the cards is finished so as soon as we get all the new Crew and Captain names onto the cards they'll be ready to go. With the Tricks Guide written and the art for the box complete we'll be ready to go to the printers. We just need the funds to make oddball Aeronauts 2 : Double the Trouble happen.
Name the crew. We'd love your input! Across the net we are once again asking you to name our card characters. The chosen names will grace the final cards themselves, just like in the Pilot Set.
Name the Captains. For a chance to name the two captains keep an eye on our updates. You'll need to be a backer to throw in your name idea into the hat.
oddball Aeronauts 2 : Double the Trouble will have an MSRP of £13 in the UK. As a backer you can get a copy for £12.
If you would like to order additional copies of 'oddball Aeronauts: Double the Trouble' simply add £10 to your pledge total for each additional copy. Worldwide shipping is included in this amount.
We have included worldwide shipping. We'll need your current address and should you move we'll need you to let us know your new address as soon as you know it and before we ship. We'll let you know when we're about to start the shipping run just before we begin.
Once we receive oddball Aeronauts 2 : Double the Trouble, it could take between 2 to 12 weeks for you to receive your copy of the game and you could receive your copy anytime during this period. But if you would like yours to be expedited - with you in a matter of days - or tracked, then we can accommodate.
Please read our Shipping Options article for all the details on shipping.
Custom Cards - Some reward levels above Pilot give you the opportunity to own your own custom cards. These cards are in addition to the 'Double the Trouble' Set. You'll get to choose art and give your new Captain or Crew a custom name*.
* Keep names to -
- Under the given letter count
- In the English language
- Keep them clean
- No symbols or trademarks
Having said all that, we want you to have fun with it, this is an oddball world where quirky names are the common names. There are a few other limitations too, so read the accompanying articles on our website for full details.
This pledge level gives you 2x custom Captain cards. This works as follows:
1. Choose your two Captains from the Rogue Captains Gallery which you can find in our Ace Pilot article. The gallery has four captain art variants for each faction to choose from, including the captains from the core Set.
2. Name your two Captains*. Your chosen names will appear on your cards.
3. Submit your choices via the Kickstarter survey. We'll send this out shortly after the end of the project. You have the duration of the project to decide on the art and names you'd like.
Please double check all spelling! We'll be copy/pasting your names from your survey into the cards so please make sure that the name is exactly as you want it.
Read our Ace Pilot article for further details.
This pledge level gives you even more choice for your custom Captain card than the Ace Pilot. This works as follows:
1. Choose one officer or one individual crew character from one of the factions. You can browse the available card art in this PDF of card art samples. Your chosen character will be promoted to a Captain card for that same faction.
2. Name your Captain*. Your chosen name will appear on your Chosen Captain card.
3. Submit your choices via the Kickstarter survey.
Read our Chosen Captain article for further details.
This pledge level gives you 3 copies of a custom Crew card. This works as follows:
1. Choose three officers or individual crew characters in total from any faction. You can browse the available card art here. These three characters will come together to form your Motley Crew card.
2. Name your Crew*. Your chosen name will appear on your Motley Crew card.
3. Submit your choices via the Kickstarter survey.
The final crew card your chosen art will inhabit is predecided for each faction. You can choose for your Motley Crew to belong to any one of the four factions.
Read our Motley Crew article for further details.
Paint Your Own Captain
This pledge level gives you maximum customisation of a custom Captain card. This works as follows:
1. Choose a line art character from the oddball line art gallery (including Ace Pilot Rogue Captains), download and colour it (or even change it as you will - add a monocle, or hat, or pet bot, or . . .). Alternatively, create your own oddball character (check out our Paint Your Own Captain article for details and limitations, accepted file types and so on). Send us your finished art and we'll use it to create a one of a kind custom Captain card.
2. Name your Captain*. Your chosen name will appear on your Paint Your Own Captain card.
3. Submit your name choices via the Kickstarter survey and send your art to our 'designers' email before 31st December 2014.
Read our Paint Your Own Captain article for further details.
Hero & Legend
At these pledge levels you'll get original art custom cards. You'll get to work with our resident artist, Lloyd Ash, to create a one off Captain or airship. Read our Original Art Cards article for details.
The Token Journal
Any backer from Pilot Reward or above may opt in to this sticktacular interactive reward. So what is it?
As many of you helped us massively with our last Kickstarter by spreading the word about oddball Aeronauts we thought we’d put something fun together for those of you willing to help us again. It's a token of our gratitude for your oddballian efforts in going that extra virtual aerial mile! We’ve come up with 6 things and for each one you complete, you’ll get a sticker added to your Token Journal. Collect all 6 and get a nice, shiny, gold, special 7th sticker.
And, if you get all 6 stickers and we reach double our funding goal (£22,222), you’ll get a special game card as an extra bonus. Your Token Journal will be sent out to you with your copy of the game.
1. Choose a Token to aim for. There are six Tokens in total, each with totally achievable Things To Do to earn it:
- PuzzleBot: Take part in our online PuzzleQuestThingamajig
- HailsBot: Social Media . . . stuff
- JourneyBot: Post a Photo of playing oddball Aeronauts showing off its 'Play Anywhere' feature, such as on holiday, on a bus etc.,
ReviewBot: The clue is in the name!
CreatorBot: Put your stamp on the oddball Realms
- LeagueBot: Play in the online League of Extra-oddball Aeronauts
2. Do the 'Thing' required to get you the Token
3. Tell us about your activity (what and where) via email
4. Pick another Token Thing to Do as desired and do that too! Anyone completing all six will get an extra FlagsBot Token for the Journal's reverse side
The Journal with your earned Tokens (stickers ready to be stuck on the journal by you) will accompany your physical rewards.
Important! See our website's Token Journal article for full details.
The 'Field Guide for Troublemakers' PDF
All backers at the Auxiliary Pilot pledge level and above will get a copy of the Field Guide for Troublemakers PDF.
This digital pocket book gives a curious aeronaut inside info on troublesome bots, vexing events and a selection of gear as carried by Mechinauts and Free Kingdoms crew and officers.
Add-on: Custom Named Figurehead Card
For any backer that pledges at the ACE PILOT level or above you can add £3 to your pledge to get a custom named Figurehead card, which carries the name of the ship.
For each £3 you add to your pledge you will get 1x Figurehead card with your chosen ship's name on it. Simply choose a faction and tell us your custom name in the backer survey.
You can choose a Figurehead from any of the four factions: Free Kingdoms, Mechinauts, Pendragon or Pirates.
Your chosen name will appear as the 'nickname' and preceding the ship class in the full name position on the card. For example: 'Quixote' / 'Quixote' Monolith where Monolith is the ship's class.
When we have funded, the cards in the expansion set will be linen finish, as promised in our first Kickstarter.
And on hitting the magical £16,161 we will throw in two alternative Captains as extra cards for Pilot backers and above: 1x Mechinauts Captain and 1x Free Kingdoms Captain. These will be the Rumblester and Lord of Ranges captains as available at the Ace Pilot reward level so keep this in mind when making your choices if you are pledging for Ace Pilot captains.
Risks and challenges
Can we fulfill on time again?
Excluding the odd package lost in the post (which we replaced and would do again) we fulfilled our last Kickstarter on time and even earlier for some backers, thanks to our organised and hard working fulfilment bots and those crazy and unpredictable shipping companies.
To prevent this from happening again . . . no wait . . . that was a good thing, right?
Okay, forget that! This time round we are giving you the option to upgrade your shipping if you wish. See 'Shipping' in the main description above for the link to full details of the service and additional cost.
If You Change Your Address
We'll be asking for your address details in the survey. If you change your address at a later date then let us know as soon your new address is known to you. It's important we get this information before we begin to ship (we will give you a heads up before we begin shipping). If we have to ship your goods twice due to a change of address we will have to charge you a second shipping cost before we send your rewards again.
Please note that custom cards may differ slightly in final colours when compared to the cards in the faction decks. This is an unavoidable part of the printing process. The difference is often barely noticeable but it's a reality of printing so please bear that in mind regarding any custom or alternative art cards offered through this Kickstarter, whether as a reward or as a stretch goal.
