We invite you to help us make “Living With The Dead”, a narrative feature film about love and loss, adventure and hope.
Max McLean is eighteen years old and she can't get out of bed. Since her boyfriend Adam killed himself over a year ago, Max has been using sex, drugs and parties to help her ignore the pain until one day she wakes up in a hospital, having taken a nearly lethal dose of sleeping pills. While being haunted by visions of Adam, Max runs away from home and ventures into the forest with a curious young man named Ish. With Ish's help, Max discovers the secret behind Adam's suicide and frees herself from the past.
Living with the Dead is a project that I began after a friend of mine killed herself. This film is about what happens to the people who live with having someone close to them commit suicide. It is a story that young people going through hard times can watch and take comfort in feeling like they are not alone, that there are ways to turn their lives around and that things will get better.
Since 1999 more Americans have killed themselves than the year before. In 2010 self-harm was the leading reported cause of death in people between the ages of 15 through 49, making the global total 107,536, a number that surpasses all cancers and heart disease.
It is my hope that this film can reach people across the country and help support victims of a rising epidemic.
