What Is Living Wellness?
As a personal trainer with over ten years of experience, I have seen people suffer unnecessarily, unable to fulfill their calling in life due to preventable health issues. Most Christians suffer the same plight. We often focus on our spiritual health, neglecting the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of ourselves.
This revelation hit me like a bolt of lightning when I was out for a run a few years ago. While running, I felt like God told me that he cared about my whole self: not just my spiritual health, but my emotional and physical health too. This put me on a path to seek out God's word regarding the interconnectedness of health in all aspects of life, which I believe is the definition of abundant life.
This is where the Living Wellness journey began — connecting the knowledge of fitness and nutrition research with discovering God's desire for our lives.
The first Living Wellness book was published in 2014 and was awarded a gold medal from the Midwest Independent Publishing Association. It includes nutrition education, foundational fitness information, and a biblical affirmation in each chapter, sharing a better understanding about how our bodies work and how to properly nourish our bodies rather than simply fuel them. It’s been beautiful to watch countless transformations.
In 2015, one particular client, Dawn Brommer, read Living Wellness and attended a series of my nutrition classes called “Are You Addicted to Sugar?” She instantly recognized that she and her family were addicted to sugar, and the consequences were evident. Dawn thought, "This book needs to be read within small groups everywhere!" She recognized the power of being able to talk through challenging concepts, ask questions, and give and receive encouragement in a group setting.
Dawn and I partnered up and made a plan for how to get the knowledge of Living Wellness delivered in a safe environment that promotes inspiration, mindfulness, accountability, and motivation. This plan takes into account the health of the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. With this book, you will have an opportunity to reflect and make action steps toward your physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual health.
We implemented beta groups to test out the small-group concept, and the results have spoken for themselves. Participants of the Living Wellness Growth Groups have lost weight, but the most significant changes have been seen in such comments as, “I now eat to nourish my body, rather than eat to stuff myself,” and “I exercise out of respect for my body, rather than punishment,” and “It’s so freeing to invite God into my health journey, I never thought to do that before.” Readers of Living Wellness for Growth Groups are trusting God’s promise for an abundant life, taking action toward that promise, and experiencing wholistic transformation of their minds, bodies, and spirits. Why Did I Write this Book?
Freedom, balance, and abundant life are just a few joys I find in Jesus. I have discovered and am excited to share the good news that my faith journey includes all elements of my health, including physical fitness and nutritional choices. Living Wellness for Growth Groups is based on my own health experiences, the experiences of thousands of successful clients, and years of research from leading experts in the field (quoted throughout the book). The program focuses on three main elements:
1. Nutrition (the art of eating for nourishment, rather than for fuel alone)
2. Fitness (I call it “happy movement” because I encourage you to find something enjoyable)
3. Faith (encouragement and support from the Creator of your body!)
