About

Everyone wants to travel the world.  Everyone can complete the sentence, “If time and money were no option, I’d go…”  The reality is that time and money are limiters, but they don’t have to be; we’ve spent years traveling the world on less than $50 a day!  During this travel we realized that many of the world’s greatest sights and cultures can be visited within the bounds of “normal people’s” vacation time and budgets.  We want to show people how.

We will do this by creating a book and website of detailed itineraries explaining how to visit the most fun, enlightening and exciting places within the typical annual vacation time: 7-14 days.  Best of all, we will do this based on our own experience; itineraries have been tried and tested by us.

Unlock the mysteries of North Korea in seven days.  This is a scene from the world's largest musical, performed flawlessly by over 100,000 "comrade" performers.

We will help people find the things they want to do in “distant” and exotic countries such as the Philippines, Bolivia, Tanzania, Vietnam and many more.  These places can be visited for less than most people know, and best of all: within the bounds of limited vacation time!

Eat delicious foods, see enormous jewels and tranquil parks in one of the world's densest places, Hong Kong, in only four days.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

Travel opens minds, changes perspectives and helps us become better citizens of the world.  We often hear how different we are from others, but traveling teaches us that humans are more similar than not, regardless of religion, education, or culture.  We live not in a world of “us and them,” but together.  We all have our struggles, but want to be safe and provide our children a bright future.

Sit with monks, see thousand year old temples, and learn about living inside a military regime in Myanmar with two weeks of vacation.

Travel is a great teacher, but not enough people take advantage of it.  While time and budget constraints make travel seem inaccessible, the reality is that its not!

What could you do with a week's vacation next year?  How about watch lions, zebras and elephants in the Serengeti, then relax on Zanzibar's secluded beaches?

WHAT WILL THIS PROJECT ACCOMPLISH?

We will open up the world for would-be travelers by providing detailed itineraries that are built around utilizing “vacation time” and directly answering their questions.

While many people may know activities they enjoy, they probably don’t know which travel guides to start looking in.  Foodies may not realize that they can enjoy the culinary treats and cooking schools of Singapore in just a few days.  Outdoor enthusiasts may not know that they can see the highlights of Patagonia inexpensively in ten days.  Culture lovers probably have never heard of the thousand-year old temples of Bagan, Myanmar.  Travel fanatics that have been “everywhere” probably don’t know how to visit North Korea.

The website will feature an “Ask Us” section where we will share our ideas and advice for specific travelers.  While travel agencies and tour companies provide sales information, we will provide unbiased information about how to travel anywhere, with limited time and funds.  Think of this as a “Dear Abby” for travelers to figure out what to do next and how.

Enjoy dazzling sunsets, relaxing days and cruise the mighty Mekong in 4000 Islands, Laos, then visit Angkor Wat with less than two weeks of vacation time.

WHAT DOES THIS FUNDING PAY FOR?

The funding will go to pay for the following things:

  • GRAPHIC DESIGN.  We’re not designers, so to make the website and book visually appealing we need design help.  We will provide original photos, content and information, but need help to make our materials attractive and easy-to-use.
  • PRINTING.  Printing the book, photos and postage costs money.  We will use these funds for a first-run, limited edition, book.
  • WEB HOSTING, REGISTRATION, ETC.  We will use sponsorship funds to register, manage and host the site.  It will have a different name and back-end than our personal travel journal at www.livingif.com
  • TRADEMARKING AND MISC.  We will use sponsorship costs for any registration or legal costs that we may incur.
  • COFFEE.  Caffeine is required to write the book, do research, and answer travel related questions.  This will be a tiny, but very important, use of sponsorship funds.
  • This Kickstarter funding WILL NOT finance our travels.  We have already funded our travels with our life savings. This Kickstarter funding will help build and develop a website and book to make world travel accessible to everyone regardless of time and money.

WHY ARE WE USING KICKSTARTER?

We are using Kickstarter, instead of going to a traditional book publisher because we want to involve crowd sourcing in designing and writing our book.  We will tailor the book’s information based on information from our online community, website Q&A and sponsors on Kickstarter.  We are not prepared to make a commercial book, or have “professional” editors choose the book’s content.  We want real people with real world constraints to help us make a book that enables them to travel and includes places they want to go.  This is not to say that there will not be a commercial version in the future.

Cast a shadow from 20,000 feet in Ecuador.  Complete an ice-climbing and mountaineering course in only 10 days, then stand next to the sky and see if it's really your limit!

BACKGROUND:

We are a couple that is currently traveling around the world. We are finishing the first year of a planned three-year world tour.  In order to do this, we worked and saved for many years.  Prior to that, we spent extensive time traveling globally, traversing the Americas and Europe.  From all these years of traveling we've learned tricks, tips and the best sights to see...it's time for us to share all of our experience to help you blaze your travel trail.
